Range Trie Software Support for Longest Prefix Match
The range trie constitutes an advanced address lookup scheme aiming at low lookup throughput, latency and memory requirements. The range trie structure has been enhanced with longest prefix match and updating capabilities in order to simulate the forwarding process performed in network routers. For the main work involved in this thesis we fixed, improved, enhanced the performance and introduced additional functionality to the software implementation of the heuristics which generate high quality range trie configurations based on the bounds extracted from the lookup tables. With our work, the software is capable of producing high quality configurations for a great range of possible range trie hardware implementations, for any address length (IPv4 and IPv6 among others), and for any size of lookup tables in relatively low time. As supplementary work we developed the support software for an IPv4 range trie structure hardware implementation on the HTX reconfigurable platform. The software translates the generated configuration into suitable commands for the software/hardware interface and also offers all the necessary functionality of verifying and maintaining the hardware range trie configuration.Embedded SystemsMicroelectronics & Computer EngineeringElectrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Scienc
Design and Prototype of the Range-Trie IP: Lookup in the HTX reconfigurable platform
In this thesis the design and FPGA implementation of the Range Trie with Longest Prefix Match and updates is completed and prototyped in an HTX reconfigurable system. The design and its implementation is an example of hardware/software co-design and supports hardware functions controlled by software using system calls. In the case of the Range Trie, the implementation is executed in hardware and controlled by software running in a Linux environment. The proposed hardware implementation of the Range Trie is compared to the Linux routing tables in terms of performance. Distinctions are made between test sets with and without updates, insertions and deletions of possible links. Various design improvements are proposed and incorporated into a Virtex 4 FPGA. For the Range Trie support in the HTX platform a suitable hardware-software interface is proposed and developed. The proposed additions and improvements lead to a functionally correct Range Trie prototype with software support for Linux. Compared to the Linux routing tables the throughput of the hardware implementation is about 47 times higher. This makes our FPGA Range Trie design a very interesting solution to the scalability problem from which the Internet and its core and edge routers are suffering.Computer EngineeringElectrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Scienc
Design and Implementation of a Range Trie for Address Lookup
The rapid growth of internet traffic and the eminent shift from IPv4 to IPv6 addresses indicated the need for an efficient address lookup method that can keep pace with the ever-increasing throughput demands. As current address lookup solutions tend to become the bottleneck in internet routing, the efficient Range Trie address lookup method was designed for a hardware implementation in this thesis. A complete Range Trie hardware design was derived that is parameterizable in many of its aspects. The proposed design offers the required properties of low latency, high throughput and low memory requirements, while these properties scale well with the increase of the address width and/or the lookup table size. After implementing the Range Trie using 90nm ASIC process, an operating frequency of 540MHz up to 694MHz was achieved for IPv4 addresses, depending on the lookup table size (256-512K entries). For IPv6, the throughput was sustained between 442MHz up to 571MHz. For both IPv4 and IPv6, an OC-3072 (160Gbps) wire speed is supported for the worst-case of 512K ranges. The memory requirements ranged from a few KBytes up to 24 MBytes, while the occupied area ranged from 0.014 cm2 up to 4.64 cm2 and the power consumption ranged from 0.2 W up to 31 W depending on the address width (32, 64 or 128-bits) and the lookup table size (256-512K entries).Computer EngineeringElectrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Scienc
Throughput and Power optimization of the Range Trie design for IP lookups
This thesis aims to improve the Range Trie design on throughput and power consumption. The Range Trie is an SRAM based design that offers competitive performance and is scalable enough to withstand current and future expectations, especially the transition from IPv4 to IPv6. This thesis is exploring the possibilities in partitioning the last and larger in size levels of the Range Trie while replicating the first ones which require less area. For the purposes of this thesis a goal of up to four times the initial throughput was set, on the Range Trie for address lookups. Various partitioning configurations were examined to determine the most advantageous one for performance and feasibility. Apart from throughput, partitioning proved to be beneficial also for power. Synopsys tools were used to synthesize the design along with a UMC 90nm process. Power figures were extracted for a variety of configurations for both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols, up to 16M prefixes large. These figures were compared with previous ones made for the original design to detect any improvement. Results have shown that power was almost halved at most cases while throughput increased by nearly 400%.Computer EngineeringMicroelectronics & Computer EngineeringElectrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Scienc

This research aims to develop a quadrotor system as unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAVs, or drones) for monitoring atmospheric conditions in a targeted area. The system consists of an APM 2.8 arducopter flight controller, Ublox NEO M8N GPS module with compass, Racerstar 920kV 2-4S Brushless Motor, Flysky Receiver FS-iA6B with FS-i6 Remote Control Transmitter, DJI F450 quadcopter frame kits with tall landing gear skid, and a LiPo Battery 3300 mAh 35C. The system is set up and run through a Mission Planner. As for monitoring atmospheric conditions, the system consists of an Arduino Uno ATmega328P, BME280 sensors, and several modules (DS3231 Real-Time Clock (RTC), micro SD card, and 16×2 LCD). Our vehicle with a total weight of 1 kg can fly into space and maneuver to an altitude of more than 200 meters in an average of 10 minutes. Atmospheric conditions such as air temperature, relative humidity, air pressure, altitude, and precipitable water vapor can be measured and logged properly from drones. By this development, the system can be applied in the future to detect or measure weather extremes, air pollution, or monitoring aerial topography automatically when equipped with gas sensors and cameras, respectively. This research aims to develop a quadrotor system as unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAVs, or drones) for monitoring atmospheric conditions in a targeted area. Synthesis and characterisation of nanostructured BiFeO3 for photodecolourisation of azo dyes using visible light
In this work, effort is being made to synthesize a narrow band gap ferroelectric perovskite nanostructure semiconductor that is BiFeO3 (BFO). The BFO nanopowders were synthesized at 650ºC using a self-combustion method with glycine as the fuel. The effect of the different fuel concentrations, annealing temperatures and the duration of annealing are all demonstrated to influence the phase and crystallography of the synthesized nanoparticles. The author has demonstrated that the self-combustion process can be used to produce high purity BFO nanopowders which exhibit good absorption in the visible-light regime as determined by the UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy with a measured optical band gap of 2.22 eV. Author\u27s Acceptance in Relating Reader’s Response to Digital Novels
Technology development in the digital era has transformed the world of literature, particularly for digital novels. The comment sections on digital literature provide a platform for direct interaction between authors and readers, which can influence the author\u27s creative process. Therefore, this research aims to examine the author acceptance in responding to readers\u27 feedback on their digital novels and to explore its impact on the creative process of the works produced. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method with a literary reception approach to understand readers\u27 responses to three digital novels: "BarraKilla" by Nova Adhita, "Paradise Garden" by Khojina, and "Abi Ghea" by Chelsea Karina. Data were collected through documentation techniques and online observations of readers\u27 comments, then it was analyzed using content analysis techniques and was validated through author interviews. The results of this study showed that readers\u27 responses to digital novels are categorized into three aspects: domination, negotiation, and opposition. Dominant reception can support the plot and strengthen the narrative, while negotiation and opposition receptions can be considered in adjusting the story and evaluating it for the author. This study concludes that digital novel authors respond to readers\u27 feedback through domination, negotiation, and opposition, where this interaction influences the story\u27s development and creates a dynamic relationship between the author and the reader
