    Hanan Muzemil (Class of 2019) was interviewed by Nia Kamau in the Oral History Studio of Fondren Library at Southern Methodist University on June 28, 2019. In her interview, Ms. Muzemil discussed her upbringing in Chicago, Illinois with her parents, who immigrated from Ethiopia in the 1980s. She attended a diverse charter school and was involved with the Ethiopian community in Chicago. In high school, she participated in a STEM program that partnered with SMU and decided to come to SMU due to the program's scholarship. While at SMU, she majored in Applied Physiology Health Management and was involved in various organizations, including the Natural Hair Network, of which she was a founding member. Ms. Muzemil graduated in 2019 and at the time of the interview planned to return to school to study for a master's in health administration

    Includes bibliographical references.In spite of growing attention to the needs of post-secondary English language learners, many of these students continue to struggle with their university coursework. According to Hyland, (2002) gaps in school curricula may be one of the factors contributing to this phenomenon. To address this issue, scholars have suggested that course designers employ Needs Analysis to improve the alignment between curricula at the university level (Zohrabi, 2010). However, without a concrete example of how a needs analysis is conducted, many instructors may be reluctant to take on such a project. The purpose of this panel poster is to provide EAP instructors and course designers with a first-hand account of an actual needs analysis project, and to demonstrate how data from this project was used for curriculum alignment. In this poster, the panelists will begin by introducing the concept of needs analysis, and explaining its relevance to the EAP context. Next, the panelists will discuss how they applied this concept in order to determine the needs of a population of international students at a public university. Participants will learn specifically how data was collected and analyzed using Present Situation Analysis, Target Situation Analysis, and Discourse Analysis methods. They will also learn how the research findings were used to redesign the curriculum of a foundational EAP course, in order to better prepare students for future university coursework. Participants will be given an opportunity to ask questions to the panelists about their work. They will also receive handouts with information about designing, implementing, and applying the results of a needs analysis, with references to sources of additional information.This poster will explore how needs analysis can be used to improve the alignment of post-secondary EAP curricula. The author will discuss her own needs analysis project, detailing her methods of data collection and analysis, and share how the findings were used to redesign the curriculum of an EAP course

    This interdisciplinary study explores how Driss Chraïbi’s L’Homme du Livre (1995), Assia Djebar’s Loin de Médine (1991), and Anissa Boumediène’s La fin d’un monde (1991) present accounts of particular historical moments in early Islam. This study explores the role of the imagination as well as freedom of invention when reconstructing historical events. It engages the novels through a study of the interplay between the literary text and the sources and traditions that impact and shape the text narrative. Gaining direct access to the original sources in Arabic serves to analyze how religious and early historical materials are considered in and reflected by the fictional texts.     The da'wah strategy used by Hanan Attaki is to approach young people, raising the dominant da'wah content that discusses a lot about the discourse of love, the ease and beauty of marriage, life tests, taaruf and so on. In carrying out his da'wah, he often wears a casual appearance typical of young people, such as plaid shirts, collared shirts, t-shirts covered with batik shirts or jackets. One of the typical styles of Hanan Attaki is his appearance which tends to wear a beanie or kupluk hat, beard, thin mustache and box-rimmed glasses. Hanan Attaki as a preacher who is able to carry out studies with interesting themes in accordance with the problems and what young people need. There are several types of content on Hanan Attaki's youtube channel, including themes about disappointment, patience, love, motivation and many more. The influence of Hanan Attaki's da'wah among young people is that many young people want to migrate by studying through Hanan Attaki's youtube account. Abstrak Strategi dakwah yang digunakan Hanan Attaki adalah dengan melakukan pendekatan terhadap anak muda, mengangkat konten dakwah yang dominan banyak membahas menganai wacana cinta, kemudahan dan keindahan menikah, ujian-ujian hidup, taaruf dan sebagainya. Dalam menjalankan dakwahnya, ia kerap berpenampilan kasual khas anak muda, seperti kemeja kotak-kotak, baju berkerah, kaos dilapisi baju batik atau jaket. Salah satu gaya khas dari Hanan Attaki adalah penampilannya yang cenderung meggunakan topi jenis beanie atau kupluk, berjanggut, berkumis tipis dan berkacama berbingkai kotak.  Hanan Attaki sebagai pendakwah yang mampu mengusung kajian dengan tema-tema yang menarik sesuai dengan permasalahan dan apa yang dibutuhkan anak muda. Ada beberapa jenis konten di channel youtube Hanan Attaki diantaranya mengenai tema tentang kecewa, sabar, cinta, motivasi dan masih banyak lagi.     ABSTRAK Penelitian ini berjudul “Analisis Komunikasi Dakwah Ustadz Hanan Attaki, Lcdi Youtube Hanan Attaki”. Seiring berkembangnya zaman saat ini dakwah dilatar belakangi oleh pentingnya proses komunikasi dakwah yang diselaraskan dengan tuntutan zaman. Banyaknya tayangan mengenai dakwah di youtube dari para ulama dan ustadz memudahkan kalangan masyarakat dalam belajar dan memahami dakwah. Akan tetapi jika dilihat dari minat masyarakat terutama di kalangan remaja dalam menonton tayangan mengenai dakwah di youtube lebih banyak ditonton yaitu akun youtube Ustad Hanan Attaki, Lc karena dari gaya dan bahasa yang digunakan menyesuaikan dengankemajuan zaman yang lebih mudah diterima oleh berbagai kalangan masyarakat. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui komunikasi dakwah ustadz Hanan Attaki,Lc di youtube Hanan Attaki. Metode penelitian ini adalahmetode penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan jenis penelitian studi kepustakaan dan pendekatan kualitatif. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu studi kepustakaan, observasi dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu analisis konten (Content Analysis). Untuk mengetahui dakwah Ustadz Hanan Attaki,Lc di youtube peneliti menggunakan teori komunikasi dakwah menurut Wahyu Ilahi diambil dari video ceramah ustadz Hanan Attaki yang berjudul mengatasi sifat yang sering berkeluh kesah, nasehat saat lagi sedih dan kecewa dan booster ramadhan. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah Tengku Hanan Attaki adalah ustadz atau muballig yang disebut juga seorang da’i yaitu orang yang menyampaikan pesan berupa akidah, akhlak dan syariat sesuai dengan ajaran Islam dengan menggunakan metode dakwah mauidhah hasanah sehingga menimbulkan efek afektif dan kognitif dan bertujuan untuk memberitahukan, mempengaruhi dan menghibur.     Bahasa digunakan sebagai alat komunikasi yang merupakan hal utama dalam berinteraksi secara sosial. Bentuk dari komunikasi disebut tuturan, komunikasi bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan perasaan dan pikiran yang dapat diartikan sebagai proses penyampaian suatu tuturan. Penelitian ini berjudul Tindak Tutur dalam Ceramah Ustaz Hanan Attaki pada Channel Youtube Hanan Attaki yang di latar belakangi oleh terkenalnya Ustaz Hanan Attaki karena pembawaan dakwahnya yang menarik, serta kurangnya bahan ajar yang bervariatif pada pembelajaran teks ceramah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu menganalisis tindak tutur pada ceramah Ustaz Hanan Attaki. Tindak tutur dalam ceramah Ustaz Hanan Attaki yang memberikan efek dari tuturan yang dilakukan oleh penutur dan hal tersebut dapat berpengaruh kepada mitra tutur. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif, artinya data dalam penelitian ini diambil dari video ceramah Ustaz Hanan Attaki yang bersumber dari YouTube Hanan Attaki. Teknik pengumpulan data dari penelitian ini yaitu teknik telaah pustaka, teknis simak, dan teknik catat.
