Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Big data-based correlation analysis between aircraft take-off/landing patterns and weather
학위논문(석사) - 한국과학기술원 : 산업및시스템공학과, 2021.2,[iv, 44 p. :]항공기는 기상의 영향을 가장 많이 받는 교통수단이다. 기상은 높은 부가가치를 창출하는 항공산업에서 항공 운항의 수용 및 효율성을 결정하는 중요한 요소이다. 현재까지 기상정보와 항공운항의 연관성 또는 활용성과를 분석한 기존 연구들은 대체로 항공운항의 결항이나 지연과 같은 단순 결과와 그 원인이 되는 기상요인을 단순히 연관지어 평가하는 연구 방법이었다. 그에 비해 본 연구에서는 항공기 운항 데이터를 활용하여 기상에 따른 항공기의 이착륙 패턴을 빅데이터 기반으로 분석하였다. 이를 통해 기상을 최대한 활용하여 항공기의 이착륙이 이루어졌는지 여부를 분석하고 공항의 운항관리, 항공사의 노선관리 측면에서 개선할 수 있는 사항들을 도출하였다. 데이터 분석을 통해 풍향과 항공기 이착륙 방향의 연관성을 분석하였고, 기온과 풍향에 따라 항공기의 이륙거리와 시간이 어떻게 달라지는지를 확인하였다. 이 결과를 바탕으로 계절별 항공 수송량, 승객 수 선정 최적화를 통해 항공사의 수익을 최대화할 수 있을 것이며, 풍향 조건을 활용한 이상적인 항공기 이착륙이 이루어질 수 있도록 개선하여 유류비용 절감 및 항공기 유지보수 비용을 절감할 수 있을 것이다.한국과학기술원 :산업및시스템공학과
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
