The Dynamic, the Static, and the Weak: Factor Models and the Analysis of High‐Dimensional Time Series
Several fundamental and closely interconnected issues related to factor models are reviewed and discussed: dynamic versus static
loadings, rate-strong versus rate-weak factors, the concept of weakly common component recently introduced by Gersing, the
irrelevance of cross-sectional ordering and the assumption of cross-sectional exchangeability, the impact of undetected strong
factors, and the problem of combining common and idiosyncratic forecasts. Conclusions all point to the advantages of the General
Dynamic Factor Model approach of Forni, Hallin, Lippi, and Reichlin over the widely used Static Approximate Factor Model
introduced by Chamberlain and Rothschild
Teräsrunkoisen hallin kustannusoptimointi
Tämän opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli optimoida teräsrunkoisen hallin kustannuksia vertailemalla eri kehävälien vaikutusta hallin rakenteisiin. Tarkoituksena oli selvittää, miten kehävälien muuttaminen vaikuttavaa hallin kokonaiskustannuksiin ja millä kehävälillä saavutetaan edullisin ratkaisu. Optimointi toteutettiin kokonaisuutena huomioiden rakenneosien vaikutukset toisiinsa.
Generalized Dynamic Factor Models and Volatilities Estimation and Forecasting
In large panels of financial time series with dynamic factor structure on the levels or returns, the volatilities of the common and idiosyncratic components often exhibit strong correlations, indicating that both are exposed to the same market volatility shocks. This suggests, alongside the dynamic factor decomposition of returns, a dynamic factor decomposition of volatilities or volatility proxies. Based on this observation, Barigozzi and Hallin (2016) proposed an entirely non-parametric and model-free two-step general dynamic factor approach which accounts for a joint factor structure of returns and volatilities, and allows for extracting the market volatility shocks. Here, we go one step further, and show how the same two-step approach naturally produces volatility forecasts for the various stocks under study. In an applied exercise, we consider the panel of asset returns of the constituents of the S&P100 index over the period 2000–2009. Numerical results show that the predictors based on our two-step method outperform existing univariate and multivariate GARCH methods, as well as static factor GARCH models, in the prediction of daily high–low range—while avoiding the usual problems associated with the curse of dimensionality
Kevyen teollisuuden hallin rakentaminen
Opinnäytetyön aiheena on kevyen teollisuuden hallin rakentaminen. Työn tavoitteena on tutustuttaa lukija erilaisiin rakennevaihtoehtoihin koskien hallirakennuksia.
Hallirakentamisessa tarveselvityksen tärkeys korostuu, koska runkomateriaaleista on vaikea löytää oikeaa, parhaiten tilanteeseen sopivaa, ratkaisua. Hallirakennuksen tilaajan kannattaa luoda pitkäntähtäimen suunnitelmia rakennuksen suunnitteluvaiheessa saadakseen itselleen tarpeellisen ja toimivan rakennuksen, kustannuksiin katsomatta
Hallin tekniikka
Tämän syventävien opintojen opinnäytetyön aiheena on Hallin tekniikka karioituneiden maitomolaarien hoitomenetelmänä. Työssä käsitellään perinteistä Hallin tekniikkaa.
Opinnäytetyö on kirjallisuuskatsaus, jossa on käytetty aineistona artikkeleita PubMed-ja Cochrane-tietokannoista, kyseisten artikkelien lähdeluetteloita sekä aiheeseen liittyvää kirjallisuutta. Tiedonhakuun käytettiin seuraavia hakusanoja: ”Hall technique”,” caries”, “primary dentititon”, “stainless steel crown”,“benefit” “pediatric” ,“child” ,“childhood” ,“children” ,“primary” ,“carious” ja “teeth”.
Hallin tekniikka on karioituneiden maitomolaarien korjaavaan hoitoon kehitetty tekniikka.
Dynamic Factors in the Presence of Block Structure
Macroeconometric data often come under the form of large panels of time series, themselves decomposing into smaller but still quite large subpanels or blocks. We show how the dynamic factor analysis method proposed in Forni et al (2000), combined with the identification method of Hallin and Liska (2007), allows for identifying and estimating joint and block-specific common factors. This leads to a more sophisticated analysis of the structures of dynamic interrelations within and between the blocks in such datasets, along with an informative decomposition of explained variances. The method is illustrated with an analysis of the Industrial Production Index data for France, Germany, and Italy.Panel data; Time series; High dimensional data; Dynamic factor model; Business cycle; Block specific factors; Dynamic principal components; Information criterion.
Dynamic Factor Models with Infinite-Dimensional Factor Space: One-Sided Representations
Abstract. Factor model methods recently have become extremely popular in the theory andpractice of large panels of time series data. Those methods rely on various factor models whichall are particular cases of the Generalized Dynamic Factor Model (GDFM) introduced inForni, Hallin, Lippi and Reichlin (2000). That paper, however, relies on Brillinger's dynamicprincipal components. The corresponding estimators are two-sided filters whose performanceat the end of the observation period or for forecasting purposes is rather poor. No such problem arises with estimators based on standard principal components, which have beendominant in this literature. On the other hand, those estimators require the assumptionthat the space spanned by the factors has finite dimension. In the present paper, we arguethat such an assumption is extremely restrictive and potentially quite harmful. Elaboratingupon recent results by Anderson and Deistler (2008a, b) on singular stationary processes withrational spectrum, we obtain one-sided representations for the GDFM without assuming finitedimension of the factor space. Construction of the corresponding estimators is also brieflyoutlined. In a companion paper, we establish consistency and rates for such estimators, andprovide Monte Carlo results further motivating our approach.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
