Deterministic Influences in the Works of William Faulkner
The structure of man's life demands that each person who enters the world discover and then face the reality in which he finds himself. If a person is unable to discover or face that reality, he fails to meet a basic challenge that is common to all men. Great writers of the past and present have taken upon themselves the task of presenting the reality of the human condition as they see it to the people of the world who are struggling to understand themselves and others in terms of that reality. William Faulkner's Yoknapatawpha County cycle of stories is an attempt to record man in his struggle to face his human condition. | In the Yoknapatawpha Cycle, Faulkner presents a very complex picture of the reality of the Southern United States in the first half of the twentieth century. Although this picture has many facets and colors, this paper will concern itself with only one — the reality of determinism in the structure of Southern life.ProQuest Traditional Publishing Optio
