Jay Haley Revisited brings together influential professionals in psychotherapy and counseling to introduce, analyze, and put into context 20 of the most interesting and significant papers Jay Haley produced, both published and unpublished. Jay Haley was one of the most influential thinkers in psychotherapy who revolutionized the field through his writings, teachings, research, and supervision for more than half a century. The seminal classic papers found in this volume capture the wit, humor, and the ability to look at a field and offer critique that leads to constructive change. This book will delight readers who, in one volume, can trace the birth and development of the field of family therapy, and the revolution from traditional ideas to modern therapy approaches, in the voice of one of the field’s most gifted teachers.https://opus.govst.edu/faculty_books/1027/thumbnail.jp

In this paper, the author illustrates the main concepts and general attitudes introduced by Jay Haley in the field of psychotherapy. He underlines how Haley succeeded in doing a quiet revolution, that introduced radical changes without eliciting a real form of resistance, and that can be then called paradoxical. Particularly, connecting ideas to clinical practice and therapeutic intervention, in order to reach this goal, Haley followed different strategies: using commonsense to defeat commonsense, don’t using analogies and metaphors as a form of reality, preferring simplicity to complication, giving importance to a positive view of life and therapy, and considering the context. Jay Haley’s collaboration with Milton Erickson and the many similarities of their views in conceiving and doing psychotherapy are described

"Changes to a more sensible therapy" was the title of the paper Jay Haley presented to the 1983 World Congress on Behaviour Therapy. Haley began by pointing out that the idea of training mental health professionals to talk to patients, to change the patients\u27 behaviour is relatively new. While the notion of healing by talking has been known to religious groups since early in our history, only recently has the phenomenon been subject to secular scrutiny

Author Under Sail The Imagination of Jack London, 1893-1902

In Author Under Sail, Jay Williams offers the first complete literary biography of Jack London as a professional writer engaged in the labor of writing. It examines the authorial imagination in London's work, the use of imagination in both his fiction and nonfiction, and the ways he defined imagination in the creative process in his business dealings with his publishers, editors, and agents. In this first volume of a two-volume biography, Williams traverses the years 1893 to 1902, from London's "Story of a Typhoon" to The People of the Abyss. The Jack London who emerges in the pages of Author Under Sail is a writer whose partnership with publishers, most notably his productive alliance with George Brett of Macmillan, was one of the most formative in American literary history. London pioneered many author models during the heyday of realism and naturalism, blurring the boundaries of these popular genres by focusing on absorption and theatricality and the representation of the seen and unseen. London created an impassioned, sincere, and extremely personal realism unlike that of other American writers of the time. Author Under Sail is a literary tour de force that reveals the full range of London as writer, creative citizen, and entrepreneur at the same time it sheds light on the maverick side of machine-age literature.Intro -- Title Page -- Copyright Page -- Dedication -- Contents -- Acknowledgments -- Introduction -- 1. "Overcoming America's Infrastructure Deficit, A Fiscally Responsible Plan for Public Capital Investment"

    No full text
Condemned bridges, dilapidated school buildings, contaminated water supplies, and other infrastructure shortcomings threaten American growth, productivity, and prosperity. S Jay Levy and Walter M. Cadette propose a plan for financing infrastructure projects that is designed to have minimal effect on the federal budget and to promote sound fiscal operation. Federal zero-interest mortgage loans to state and local governments for capital projects specified by Congress can cut the cost of such projects, achieve needed improvements in the nation's infrastructure, and thereby contribute to the American economy's future.

The author presents the strategic Family Therapy for it to be contribution to the family therapy theory and practice in the social work field. For the study, the author utilized the relevant literature and applied case studies to it. The author presents a 「philadelphia child Guidance clinic」 case which was supervised by Jay Haley, a 「X X Hospital」case and a 「community church」 case that the author practiced, and 「Family Life center」cases that were practiced by other therapist. The applied range of cases was limited to the child and adolescent These strategies are usually applied to the child who has difficulties in communication, patient and families whose resistance is very strong, and the patient who has maladaptive behavior problem. Strategic family Therapy method of Haley has following speciality and strength First, It is the method that tries short-term and intensive intervention. Second, It is the method that changes whole Family system by using the symptom. Third, It is the goal setting method that clarifies the problem and the symptom based on the first inter view. Fourth, therapist take the responsibility of therapy wholly. Fifth, It is very economical method because i t opposes cotherapy and practice short- term treatment. Sixth, This tries external family system change by breaking the sequence and correcting the hierarchy. Seventh, this method is so simple that it provides therapist with intensity. Eighth, It has a wide range of application. Ninth, it focuses here and now, Tenth, it does not need conscious insight Eleventh, it relables and reinterpretes the problem positively. In conclusion, this method has very high application possibility in Korea. The validity is as follows. First, this method is very appropriate to the Korean who dislike the individual or family problem is revealed to others because this method emphasizes the present, corrects the family hierarchy, through the symptom, and change the whole family. Second, there is the possibility in accepting this method in Korea, where family therapy is not rooted, because it emphasizes not, diagnosis but life cycle, and then responses the symptem. Third, This is appropriate for Korea, where small budget is alotted to the social welfare field because this method is goal-directed, shortterm, and economical method based on the paradox. But this method has to be applied, practiced, and evaluated in social work institutes and hospitals, so it must be generalized and developed for Korea context. 이론적 배경 = 3 A.
