Curator quote / Dr. Muhamad Hafiz Hassan
Being the curator of Mapping Sarawak to the World Art Exhibition, hosted at Universitas Trisakti, Indonesia, it is my privilege to introduce this fascinating display of Sarawak’s diverse cultural heritage. The theme of our art exhibition lies in the presentation before the audience of a variety of rather significant Malaysian artworks depicting the essence of one of Malaysia’s states. The entire cross-section is divided into four specific categories and thus provides a viewer with glimpses of Sarawak's spirit. The title ‘Heritage Cultural Buildings’ encourages the viewers to study the gigantic structures that practise the cultures of Sarawak. “Animal” is a collection of music that pays homage to the wildlife found in today’s tropical paradise connected with rainforests and coastal areas. That being said, the word “Botanical” is derived from “botany”, which means the plants, and indeed, there is no shortage of them – from luxuriant rainforest trees to sensitive orchids. Last but not least, this brings viewers close to Sarawak’s people, their traditions and ordinary routine

Nature: capturing Sarawak's visual heritage / Dr. Muhamad Hafiz Hassan
In the vibrant tapestry of Sarawak's artistic expression, nature emerges as a profound and multifaceted muse. The artworks in this exhibition reveal a deep connection between the land, its inhabitants, and the creative spirit that flourishes in this corner of Borneo. From the enigmatic Rafflesia, the world's largest flower, to the carnivorous pitcher plants that inspired poetic musings, the flora of Sarawak captivates our imagination. Artists have employed various techniques, from pouring acrylic on canvas to create abstract representations, to meticulous brushwork that captures the intricate details of these botanical wonders. The fauna of the region holds equal prominence. The majestic hornbill, Sarawak's emblematic bird, appears not just as a subject but as a symbol of strength, courage, and community. The crocodile, adorned with a floral halo, represents the intricate relationship between humans and nature, embodying both respect and caution. Even the humble cat finds its place, dressed in traditional attire, bridging culture and nature in whimsical yet meaningful ways. The feline figures serve as light-hearted reminders of Kuching's name, connecting local folklore and artistic expression. UiTM Sarawak has achieved and structured in its policies towards greenin
Sandra Abdul Hafiz Interview
Sandra Abdul Hafiz grew up visiting her mother\u27s family in Plantersville. Her mother, Magnolia Green, was born and raised in Plantersville, but met and married her father, Samuel Keys, in Virginia. She grew up in Hampton, Virginia, but would return to Plantersville for holidays and summers. She admires the connectivity of the Plantersville community and recalls vividly the experience of attending church where her feet couldn\u27t touch the floor. Her grandmother, Margaret Drayton, lived in Plantersville and inspired Sandra\u27s mother to get an education. Sandra continued this legacy by attending Tuskegee University, when her mother passed away her freshman year. She discusses the importance of her family bible, and her research to find her ancestry from the first generation that was enslaved from Cameroon to her great-grandmother, Wednesday, who was enslaved at Brookgreen Gardens. She relates her mother\u27s close relationship with her father, though he died of typhoid fever when she was 12. She relates this experience to losing her mother at 19 and trying to trace through the stories that she knows about. She recalls that people in Plantersville relied on natural remedies rather than medicine, calling the ambulance the death wagon, because it would take so long to arrive. Though her mother ended up working at a hospital, Hafiz remembers that her mother always kept these concoctions to help supplement the medicine, like Catnip Tea to help with viruses. She also remembers her mother gardening, so they didn\u27t have to go to the grocery store for vegetables. She hopes that the future of Plantersville will be told by the individuals who were successful and can help return and preserve the land. This interview was conducted at the Coastal Carolina Univeristy campus with Zenobia Harper and gradaute student Sarah Jackson.https://digitalcommons.coastal.edu/plantersville-oral-histories/1014/thumbnail.jp

Evaluation of tahfiz al-Quran curriculum in Nusantara / Muhammad Hafiz Saleh
This study aims to evaluate the tahfiz al-Quran curriculum in Nusantara by adopting the Discrepancy Evaluation Model (Malcolm Provus 1971) and Tahfiz al-Quran Theory (Syukri & al-Auratani 2003). The objectives of this study are (i) to design the tahfiz al-Quran curriculum standards, which consist of three main aspects: the objectives of the tahfiz al-Quran curriculum, the process of memorising the Quran and the hafiz al-Quran standards; (ii) to evaluate the tahfiz al-Quran curriculum in terms of the tahfiz al-Quran curriculum objectives, the process of memorising the Quran and the hafiz al-Quran standards in selected tahfiz al-Quran institutions in Nusantara; (iii) to analyse the discrepancy between the designed tahfiz al-Quran curriculum standards with the actual performance achieved by the selected tahfiz al-Quran institutions; and (iv) to design a standard Tahfiz al-Quran curriculum model. This study involves four phases, which are: (a) the design phase, which uses document analysis and the Fuzzy Delphi Method (FDM) involving fourteen experts; (b) the evaluation phase, which uses a questionnaire and involves 260 respondents; (c) the discrepancy phase, which compares the designed tahfiz al-Quran curriculum standards with the actual performance achieved by the selected tahfiz al-Quran institutions; and (d) the development of a standard Tahfiz al-Quran curriculum model using the Nominal Group Technique (NGT), which involves fourteen experts in the field of tahfiz al-Quran. The questionnaire used in this study is reliable according to the Cronbach alpha test output, with the standardised item alpha being α = .953. This study developed a standard Tahfiz al-Quran curriculum model which consists of six objectives of the tahfiz al-Quran curriculum, thirty-five processes of memorising the Quran and twenty-nine hafiz al-Quran standards and found that the achievement of the selected tahfiz al-Quran institutions in terms of objectives and memorizing process were high and moderate. In terms of the hafiz al-Quran standards’ achievement, it was found to be moderate. The researcher found six discrepancies between the designed tahfiz al-Quran curriculum standards with the actual performance achieved by the selected tahfiz al-Quran institutions. At the end of the study, the researcher developed a standard tahfiz al-Quran curriculum model comprising six objectives of the tahfiz al-Quran curriculum, thirty five processes of memorising the Quran and twenty nine hafiz al-Quran standards that could serve as a guide for the tahfiz al-Quran curriculum development or as an evaluation tool for identifying the strengths and weaknesses of a tahfiz al-Quran curriculum
