Phoberus nyansanus (Haaf) new status (Fig. 4A –C) Trox nigrociliatus nyansanus Haaf, 1953: 330 Trox (Trox) nigrociliatus nyansanus: Scholtz 1980: 93; Scholtz 1982: 5 Trox (Phoberus) nigrociliatus nyansanus: Scholtz 1986: 361; Zidek 2013: 13 Phoberus nigrociliatus nyansanus: Strümpher et al. 2016: 78 Diagnosis. Phoberus nyansanus can be easily separated from other members of the group by the yellow fringes and tufts of setae on the pronotum and elytra; the other members have black setae. P. nyansanus is restricted to the lake areas of east-central Africa.Published as part of Strümpher, Werner P. & Scholtz, Clarke H., 2017, A new brachypterous species of Phoberus MacLeay (Coleoptera: Trogidae) and status changes of species in the East African P. nigrociliatus group, pp. 292-298 in Zootaxa 4216 (3) on page 295, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.23184

Phoberus nyassicus (Haaf) new status (Fig. 5A –D) Trox nigrociliatus nyassicus Haaf, 1953: 330 Trox (Trox) nigrociliatus nyassicus: Scholtz 1980: 93; Scholtz 1982: 5 Trox (Phoberus) nigrociliatus nyassicus: Scholtz 1986: 361; Zidek 2013: 13 Phoberus nigrociliatus nyassicus: Strümpher et al. 2016: 78 Diagnosis. Phoberus nyassicus is very similar to P. nyikanus in appearance, but can be distinguished from the latter by distinct, evenly spaced tubercles on the elytra; P. nyikanus has the tubercles partially fused, forming semicontinuous ridges.Published as part of Strümpher, Werner P. & Scholtz, Clarke H., 2017, A new brachypterous species of Phoberus MacLeay (Coleoptera: Trogidae) and status changes of species in the East African P. nigrociliatus group, pp. 292-298 in Zootaxa 4216 (3) on pages 296-297, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.23184

Synthesis of 13C—O-labelled tertiary alkanoic acids by the Koch-haaf-reaction

    No full text
Good yields of tertiary alkanoic acids are obtained from the Koch-Haaf-synthesis even when only stoichiometric amounts of carbinol and HCOOH are used. This offers a new approach to 13CO-labelled tertiary alkanoic acids. - An excess of HCOOH is generally used in the Koch-Haaf-synthesis1) of carboxylic acids from carbinols and HCOOH in conc. H2SO4

Additional dark G-band in the p-arm of chromosome 19 due to a paracentric inversion with a breakpoint in the pericentromeric heterochromatin

    No full text
Paracentric inversions in chromosome 19 have rarely been described. Here we present an inv(19)(p11p13.1) with a breakpoint in the pericentromeric heterochromatin which leads to an additional dark G-band in the p-arm of chromosome 19. The rearranged chromosome segregated in two generations of a family without any phenotypic effects. A detailed characterization of the inv(19) by molecular cytogenetic techniques is presented. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    No full text
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
