Deifying Diego. The Church of Maradona and Beyond

    No full text
The author explains the many similarities between sporting and religious experiences in order to focus on the mechanisms of the Church of Maradona, established in 1998. Between parody and authenticity, the church imitates several principles from Christianity to ultimately posit an idea of a "Maradonian sacred" relating to meaning, morality, and memory. For its committed followers, the Argentinian footballer is "God" in so far as h stands as a symbol of collective identification, inspiration, and regional/national pride

2D-3D registration of CT vertebra volume to fluoroscopy projection: A calibration model assessment (doi:10.1155/2010/806094)

    No full text
This study extends a previous research concerning intervertebral motion registration by means of 2D dynamic fluoroscopy to obtain a more comprehensive 3D description of vertebral kinematics. The problem of estimating the 3D rigid pose of a CT volume of a vertebra from its 2D X-ray fluoroscopy projection is addressed. 2D-3D registration is obtained maximising a measure of similarity between Digitally Reconstructed Radiographs (obtained from the CT volume) and real fluoroscopic projection. X-ray energy correction was performed. To assess the method a calibration model was realised a sheep dry vertebra was rigidly fixed to a frame of reference including metallic markers. Accurate measurement of 3D orientation was obtained via single-camera calibration of the markers and held as true 3D vertebra position; then, vertebra 3D pose was estimated and results compared. Error analysis revealed accuracy of the order of 0.1 degree for the rotation angles of about 1?mm for displacements parallel to the fluoroscopic plane, and of order of 10?mm for the orthogonal displacement.<br/

    L’Europa e il «constitutional pluralism»: prospettive e limiti

    No full text
Theories of constitutional pluralism have used the same conceptual root upon which pluralistic democracies have developed. However, the system level at which these theories work is different: if the concept of pluralism arises within the State framework, theories of constitutional pluralism are mainly aimed at inter-legislative relations, in particular in the context of the EU. The essay takes a critical look of five main features of this theories: 1) the incommensurability of the claims originating at different system levels (member States and EU); 2) the exclusion of any hierarchical logic in the configuration of relations between the EU and the Member States; 3) the lack of a unique, permanent structural or procedural solution in case of conflict between the different constitutional sites; 4) a concept of sovereignty that is completely open or "undecided; 5) finally, the substantial acceptance of the democratic deficit that characterises the EU. The author thinks that the road opened by constitutional pluralism should not be abandoned, but only perfected and made coherent

Effect of Electronegative Substituents and Angular Dependence on the Heteronuclear Spin-Spin Coupling Constant 3JC-H: An Empirical Prediction Equation Derived by Density Functional Theory Calculations

    No full text
A general carbon-proton vicinal coupling constant (3JC-H) prediction equation has been empirically derived by a coupling constant database of 2157 3JC-H calculations (at the hybridDFTMPW1PW91/ 6-31G(d,p) level). The equation includes the electronegativity effect of the substituents attached to the 13C-C-C-1Hfragment and the dihedral (Φ) dependence of the heteronuclear spin-coupling.Aset of butane and pentane models were built, systematically varying both theΦtorsion angle in 30 steps and the substitution pattern with several electronegative substituents (Br, NH2, F, Cl, SH, OH) in order to obtain the coupling constant database. The here reported 3JC-H equation is a quantitative prediction tool, particularly useful as a support in the analysis of NMR data for the structural elucidation of organic compounds characterized by specific substitution patterns. To confirm the accuracy of our equation in the prediction of the experimental 3JC-H couplings, we tested the equation, comparing 114 experimental 3JC-H values obtained from29 polysubstituded benchmark organic compounds with the predicted data. In addition, a set of 3JC-H coupling bidimensional Karplus-type curves correlating the calculated 3JC-H values to the specific dihedral angle for every substitution pattern considered were built in order to evaluate the magnitude of the electronegativity effect

Postfazione.

    No full text
The paper focuses on the theme of the federal phenomena, preferring a sincretic approach to the subject matter. After the analysis of the different metods possibles for the study of this theme and after the analysis of the characteristics of the federal States, the author considers in his conclusions the relationship between the Federation and the States

    Il dilemma della democrazia costituzionale

    No full text
The paper focuses on the themes of the constitutional democracy, considering the different theoretical reconstructions and their problems. The author differentiates the notion of the deliberative democracy from the notion of partecipative democracy and in the end of the paper discusses the crisis of the constitutional democracy which originates from the economical globalization proces

    Democrazia deliberativa

The paper focuses on the theoretical democratic models known as “deliberative democracy”, which are traditionally counterposed to the classic models of representative democracy. In particular, the author considers the practical application possibilities of this model, through an attempt at a “deliberative” reading of the italian Constitution and of the three traditional powers of the State

Differenziazione e asimmetrie nella teoria federale contemporanea

    No full text
Core thesis of the essay is this: constitutional asymmetries are the symptom of more comprehensive transformation of the State and of relationship between groups, minorities and the State. Starting from the analysis of the formation processes of federal States, the author also accentuates the relevance of the double dimension of synchrony and diachrony for understanding of constitutional asymmetries. At the end, in addition to the existing ones, a new proposal to categorize asymmetries is advanded. Influential central institutions are deemed fundamental to the construction of asymmetries
