Data for Grain Growth in Olivine + Ferropericlase Rocks Deformed to High Strains
This repository contains backscatter electron (BSE) images electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) maps for grain growth experiments created at the UMN characterization facility. Each sample has its own zipped folder containing the the EBSD data for annealing experiments at 0, 10, and 100 h.
AllData.zip contains all of the EBSD data and BSE images for the samples included in the associated paper. We performed grain growth experiments on four samples of olivine (Ol) + periclase (Per); three samples contained volume fractions of fPer = 0.2, 0.5, 0.8 of Per100 while the fourth contained fPer = 0.2 of Per70, a Fe-bearing periclase. Prior to the grain growth experiments, these samples were deformed to shear strains of γ = 6 – 7, which resulted in a well-mixed, random distribution of grains of both phases among each other. After deformation, samples were statically annealed for 10 h and 100 h at T = 1523 K in a one-atmosphere furnace to facilitate grain growth. Almost all grain growth occurred within the first 10 h of annealing and only the sample containing fPer = 0.8 experienced additional, albeit limited, grain growth up to 100 h. Additionally, grain growth laws determined for single-phase samples of Ol and Per predict increases in grain size by factors of 4 and 5, respectively after 100 h of annealing, larger than observed in our experiments. We attribute the initial increase in grain size during the first 10 h of annealing to stored strain energy from deformation and/or Ostwald ripening, however the kinetics of grain growth are too slow in our samples to allow for grain growth over longer periods of time. The lack of significant grain growth in our study reaffirms the importance of Zener pinning in polymineralic rocks deformed to large strains, such that, once mixing is thorough, pinning along interphase boundaries is effective at maintaining a fine grain size.National Science Foundation: EAR-1755498 & EAR-1755805Wiesman, Harison S; Zimmerman, Marrk E; Kohlstedt, David L. The Past is Another Country: Designing Amnesty Law for Past Human Rights Violators
In the context past gross human rights violation cases in Indonesia, the President's constitutional authority to propose amnesty law might by and large implicate legal and ethical aspects. Holistically, any forgiveness and oblivion against any human rights violators should consider the development and the dynamic of International criminal law, which arguably have been directed to an absolute individual criminal responsibility. Against this issue, this paper finds that based on legal and ethical arguments, accompanied with various technical preconditions outlined in the Belfast Guideline on Amnesty and Accountability, an amnesty towards past gross human rights violators must be taken paradigmatically. Arguably, amnesty proceeding through an independent ad hoc committee shall be able to challenge Indonesia's transitional framework, namely: to work as a historian and a jurist. This suggests that the elements of amnesty, both procedural and substantial, need to work in the area of deliberative democracy that calls for public participation and the protection of human rights
The plastic limit of clays
The plastic limit of soils was first described by Atterberg in 1911. The thread-rolling test was standardised at the US Public Roads Bureau in the 1920s and 1930s, and has subsequently become one of the standard tests of soil mechanics. This paper reviews the original definitions of plastic limit as proposed by Atterberg, and proposes that the brittle failure observed in the plastic limit test is caused by either air entry or cavitation in the clay. Critical state soil mechanics is used to show that the observed range of undrained shear strengths of soils at plastic limit is consistent with this hypothesis. The fallacy that strength at plastic limit is a constant is highlighted, and the implications for geotechnical practice are discussed.</p

Penaksir Rasio Regresi Linear Yang Efisien Untuk Rata-rata Populasi Dengan Menggunakan Dua Variabel Tambahan
This paper discusses three ratio regression linear estimators by Singh, Upadhyaya and Premchandra for population mean Y using two auxiliary variables X and Z on simple random sampling which is a review of article “An Improved Version of Regression Ratio Estimator with Two auxiliary Variables in Sample Surveys”. The three estimators are biased then the minimum of the (MSE) is determined. Furthermore, their MSE are compared to each other. This comparison shows that the estimator with the minimum MSE is the most efficiensi estimator
Penaksir Rasio Regresi Linear Sederhana Untuk Rata-rata Populasi Menggunakankarakter Tambahan
Estimators discussed here are three regression ratio estimators of population mean Y using information on two auxiliary variables Xdan Z under simple random sampling without replacement. They are proposed bySingh, Upadhyaya and Premchandra [4] which is a review of the article “An Improved Version of Regression Ratio Estimator with Two Auxiliary Variables in Sample Surveys.” All estimatorsare biased. The efficient estimator is one with the smallest Mean Square Error (MSE), determined by comparing each type of estimator
