Hardware implementation of a low-power two-dimensional discrete cosine transform

The certified thesis is available in the Institute Archives and Special Collections.In this project, a JPEG compliant, low-power dedicated, two-dimensional, Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) core meeting all IBM Softcore requirements is developed. Power is optimized completely at the algorithmic, architectural, and logic levels. The architecture uses row-column decomposition of a fast 1-D algorithm implemented with distributed arithmetic. It features clock gating schemes as well as power-aware schemes that utilize input correlations to dynamically scale down power consumption. This is done by eliminating glitching in the ROM Accumulate (RAC) units to effectively stop unnecessary computation. The core is approximately 180K transistors, runs at a maximum of 100MHz, is synthesized to a .18[mu]m double-well CMOS technology with a 1.8V power supply, and consumes between 63 and 87 mW of power at 100MHz depending on the image data. The thesis explores the algorithmic evaluations, architectural design, development of the C and VHDL models, verification methods, synthesis operations, static timing analysis, design for test compliance, power analysis, and performance comparisons for the development of the core. Analisis Bahasa Gender dalam Fatwa tentang “Musawat Al Mar’ah bi Al Rajul” Oleh: Ahmad Al-Shurbasy dalam Kitab “Yas’alunak fi al-Din wa al-Hayat”
Gender issues are now in the great spotlight in the eyes of the wider community. Gender is generally identified as the difference between men and women from a socio-cultural perspective. Gender in general can be defined as a cultural concept that distinguishes between men and women from a socio-cultural perspective that can change according to changing times. Apart from that, gender issues regarding the roles between men and women in society are based on socio-cultural constructions and the history of society, not solely because of biological, anatomical or sexual aspects. Departing from this problem the author considers it necessary to express thoughts about Gender Language in the Fatwa about the text "Musawat Al Mar'ah bi Al Rajul". By using the library research method, which is then processed using an inductive or deductive approach, it is expected to be able to conclude the Fatwa on Musawat Al Mar'ah bi Al Rajul by Ahmad Al-Shurbasy written in the book Yas'alunak fi al-Din wa al-Hayat, consists of six paragraphs. Each paragraph contains the author's thoughts on the similarities between men and women, as well as the differences between the two (gender) from the perspective of Islam. In this study, it was also found that in expressing his thoughts on gender, he conveyed it using clear, straightforward, and firm language. This kind of language pattern is indeed appropriate to display thoughts about a problem that is problematic. By using such language, it will be able to provide an understanding of gender proportionally

Morphological Characterization of Pituitary Gland: A Retrospective Study Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Background: The pituitary gland plays a crucial role in endocrine function, and its morphology can vary with age and gender. Understanding the normative values of pituitary size, volume, and shape is essential for identifying pathological deviations. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) provides a reliable modality for assessing these parameters non-invasively.
Objective: To examine the normative values of pituitary gland size, volume, and shape across different age groups and genders using brain MRI, and to assess the relationship between these measurements and demographic variables such as age and gender.
Result: A total of 200 patients (146 men and 54 women), aged 10 to 60 years, who underwent brain MRI were included in this retrospective analysis. The average pituitary height was 5.78 mm in men and 5.52 mm in women, with no statistically significant difference. Pituitary length measured 9.34 mm in men and 9.67 mm in women. The pituitary volume was 388.31 mm³ in men and 396.39 mm³ in women, while the pituitary surface volume was 345.75 mm³ in males and 333.65 mm³ in females, with none of these differences reaching statistical significance. Significant associations were observed between pituitary measurements (height, length, and surface area) and age.
Conclusion: The study found no significant differences in pituitary gland dimensions between males and females. However, pituitary height, length, and surface area were significantly associated with age. Further research is warranted to explore the factors influencing these age-related changes in pituitary morphology
Cholecystocolic fistula secondary to gallbladder carcinoma: A rare case
Internal biliary fistulae are a well-recognized complication of biliary lithiasis. Among these, the cholecystoduodenal fistulae are the commonest while cholecystocolic fistulae (CCF) occur much less frequently. CCF secondary to gallbladder carcinoma is a rare occurrence and has been reported in very few studies. Here, the author reports a case of cholecystocolic fistula secondary to gallbladder carcinoma. Preoperative diagnosis of this condition requires high index of suspicion and is usually difficult. Computed tomography scan is helpful in establishing a preoperative diagnosis
Giant Solitary Echinococcal Cyst of the Seminal Vesicle: An Uncommon Cause of Retention of Urine
Echinococcal cysts (EC) of the retroperitoneum are a rare occurrence. Such cysts involving the seminal vesicle and attaining massive size are very rare. These cysts may remain asymptomatic for long periods or may produce nonspecific symptoms. We herewith present a rare case of isolated giant EC of the seminal vesicle, which presented as acute retention of urine. To the author′s knowledge, such a large EC of the seminal vesicle has not been reported previously in the medical literature
Gastric outlet obstruction due to neurofibromatosis: An unusual case
Neurofibromatosis type-1 (NF-1), also known as von Recklinghausen disease, is an autosomal dominant condition with an approximate incidence of one in 3000 births. NF-1 is known to involve multiple systems in the body. Abdominal involvement include neurofibroma and tumor growth in the liver, mesentery, and retroperitoneum in addition to gastric and bowel tumors. Gastrointestinal neoplasms occur in up to one quarter of patients. The author reports a rare case of diffuse submucosal neurofibromatosis resulting in gastric outlet obstruction
Abdominal cocoon secondary to tuberculosis
Abdominal cocoon or sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis is a rare cause of intestinal obstruction that has been described mostly in young adolescent girls. Thick fibrotic peritoneum encasing the small bowel in a small volume is a pathognomonic feature. This condition presents many difficulties in preoperative diagnosis. Early diagnosis can result in proper management, and may prevent the need for bowel resection. The author reports a case of a male patient with intermittent subacute intestinal obstruction and an abdominal cocoon encasing the small bowel secondary to abdominal tuberculosis, which was suspected preoperatively by radiology. To the best of our knowledge, this case represents one of the very few male patients with this disease entity reported in medical literature
