Imitated Guillian-Barré syndrome in paraneoplastic syndrome
Guillian-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an immune mediated disease which is most commonly caused by infections. Symptoms are rapidly progressive and may include servere weakness of the extremities, bulbar weakness, autonomic dysfunction and respiratory insufficiens. In rare cases paraneoplastic syndrome may mimic GBS, which is important to know as treatment will fail unless the underlying malignancy is treated. This is a case report of paraneoplastic non-small cell lungcancer mimicking GBS with effect of the checkpoint inhibitor pembrolizumab
Bulgular: Hastaların 14 ü erkek 15 i kadındı. Yaş ortalaması 51,9 yıldı. 29 olgunun 9 %31 unda tedavi öncesinde hiponatremi tespit edildi.

Guillian Barré Syndrome in a sample of Iraqi Children: Seasonal and sex variation
Background: Seasonal variation and gender preponderance have not been adequately studied in Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS).
Objective: This study aims to evaluate the seasonal variation and sex preponderance in children with Guillian Barré Syndrome.
Patients and methods: A cross sectional study was carried out by reviewing wards’ registry of all cases with Guillian Barré Syndrome admitted to Children Welfare Teaching Hospital during a 10-year period (1999 - 2008). Age, sex, seasonal distribution, residence and outcome were analysed.
Results: Guillian Barré Syndrome was diagnosed in 217 (126 boys, 91 girls) patients and the annual hospital rate of admission was 22.9 /100000 children. There was increase annual incidence from 1999 till 2008 with a drop in 2006, boys: girls ratio was 1.4:1 and boys were older than girls. Clustering of cases was found during January, March, May and November over the 10-year period, 37% of cases occurred during winter and 52.5% of patients were from Baghdad.
Conclusion: Guillian Barré Syndrome is more common in boys. Boys were older than girls. Clustering of cases was found during winter season
Pharyngo-cervico-brachial variant of Guillian Barre syndrome
Pharyngo-cervico-brachial variant of Guillian Barre Syndrome A case with pharyngo-cervico-brachial variant of GBS is presented in this paper. Variants of GBS and difficulty in diagnosis is discussed
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Letter to Editor - Visual loss with papilloedema in Guillian-Barrei- Syndrome
I read with great interest the case report of Guillian-Barre syndrome;
the patient also had papilloedema and vision loss.1 In this report the
authors have not mentioned about pupil and light reflex, which I think,
was of great diagnostic importance in this patient. Suppose, if
pupillary response to light was normal, it suggested a cortical type of
vision loss making diagnosis of Guillian-Barre-syndrome very unlikely.
In the presence of normal pupillary response porphyria presenting as
malignant hypertension (papilloedema) and posterior leukoencephalopathy
presenting as cortical blindness was a better likely possibility. In
case pupillary abnormality was present along with impaired light
reflex, it suggested optic nerve involvement and optic disk swelling
was more likely to be because of papillitis rather than because of
papilloedema
