Bounded orbits of diagonalizable flows on finite volume quotients of products of SL 2 ( R )

We prove a number field analogue of W. M. Schmidt's conjecture on the intersection of weighted badly approximable vectors and use this to prove an instance of a conjecture of An, Guan and Kleinbock. Namely, let G := SL_2(\mathbb{R}) \times \dots \times SL_2(\mathbb{R}) and \Gamma be a lattice in G. We show that the set of points on G/\Gamma whose forward orbits under a one parameter Ad-semisimple subsemigroup of G are bounded, form a hyperplane absolute winning set

Kata kunci: Joko Pinurbo, Khong Guan, Hermeneutika, Cinta, ReligiusitasABSTRACTThe aims of this study are discussing the topic converstion and how the language play in the book of poem collection, Perjamuan Khong Guan written by Joko Pinurbo. Concept and method used in this study is hermeneutics. The study shows that the author chose topics that are relatable to society i.e., religiosity, social alienation, and love and longing. From the language perspective, the author chose simple and contextual languages precisely to make the meaning easily to be understood and be reflected by the reader.Keyword: Joko Pinurbo, Khong Guan, Hermeneutics, Love, Religiosit

Parametric study of FRP plate debonding using global energy balance

    No full text
Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) plate debonding is commonly caused by the fracturing of concrete, but few studies of fracture debonding models exist, from which the failure load of the concrete cover layer can be evaluated. This paper presents a parametric study for plate end debonding using the global energy balance approach (GEBA), which has been proposed recently for determining the structure-debonding load. GEBA determines the debonding load using moment-curvature (M-?) models, and can thus be used to determine how debonding is affected by the beam’s flexural design. This paper presents parametric results using debonding contours on plots of moment capacity against the plate curtailment locations, and shows that beams with the same depth-to-fracture energy ratio give virtually the same debonding contour. This helps to generalize debonding determination for beams with different depths, and can be conveniently used for design. The parametric study lays a foundation for the application of fracture mechanics in FRP-plate retrofitting design using conventional M-? models to cover a wide range of flexural retrofitting situations

Integrity protection for code-on-demand mobile agents in e-commerce

    No full text
The mobile agent paradigm has been proposed as a promising solution to facilitate distributed computing over open and heterogeneous networks. Mobility, autonomy, and intelligence are identified as key features of mobile agent systems and enabling characteristics for the next-generation smart electronic commerce on the Internet. However, security-related issues, especially integrity protection in mobile agent technology, still hinder the widespread use of software agents: from the agent’s perspective, mobile agent integrity should be protected against attacks from malicious hosts and other agents. In this paper, we present Code-on-Demand(CoD) mobile agents and a corresponding agent integrity protection scheme. Compared to the traditional assumption that mobile agents consist of invariant code parts, we propose the use of dynamically upgradeable agent code, in which new agent function modules can be added and redundant ones can be deleted at runtime. This approach will reduce the weight of agent programs, equip mobile agents with more flexibility, enhance code privacy and help the recoverability of agents after attack. In order to meet the security challenges for agent integrity protection, we propose agent code change authorization protocols and a double integrity verification scheme. Finally, we discuss the Java implementation of CoD mobile agents and integrity protection

Heat reject recovery in solar air conditioning

This study demonstrates the possibility of using an absorption chiller to produce chilled water for air conditioning, and at the same time recover the rejected heat producing domestic hot water. The absorption chiller considered for this application has been sized to suit a standard household and uses a solution of ammonia and water running on hot water at a temperature ranging from 80 - 120°C produced by thermal solar panels.\ud \ud The system consists of five main components: generator, rectifier, condenser, evaporator and absorber, and is divided in two sections at two different pressures. The section at higher pressure includes the generator, rectifier and condenser whereas the section at lower pressure includes the evaporator and the absorber. \ud \ud Heat in this type of system is usually rejected to the environment from the condenser, rectifier and absorber through a cooling tower or air cooler exchanger. In this paper we describe how to recover this heat to create domestic hot water by providing a quantitative evaluation of the amount of energy recovered by the proposed system, if used in the Australian region

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    No full text
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
