Variations on the Author
No full text“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Nous montrons que 'že' a des propriétés syntaxiques (position, combinatoire avec les mots interrogatifs et les éléments contrastifs) et sémantiques (contenu sémantique, interprétation de la proposition) différentes en fonction de type de phrase dans laquelle il apparaît. Ceci nous amène à proposer que 'že' corresponde à deux têtes syntaxique distinctes dans la périphérie gauche de la phrase (Rizzi 1997) : tête de force phrastique et tête de focus

Pulsed optically pumped rubidium clock with high frequency-stability performance
No full textIn this paper, we present the performance of a vapor-cell rubidium frequency standard working in the pulsed regime, in which the clock signal is represented by a Ramsey pattern observed on an optically detected laser absorption signal. The main experimental results agree with previously reported theoretical predictions. In particular, we measured a relative frequency stability of σy(τ) ≈ 1.6 × 10-13τ-1/2 for integration times, τ, up to 200 s, which represents a record in short-term stability for a vapor-cell clock. We also discuss the most important physical phenomena that contribute to this result

No full textIn this paper we present a prototype of Rb clock working in pulsed regime with high freq stability performances. In particular, a frequency stability as low as 1.6×10-13τ -1/2 has been measured for integration times up to 105 s. In the short term, this represents a record result for a hot-vapor-cell frequency standard
