    Le problematiche emergenti

    No full text

    No full text
The study aims to review and perform a meta-analysis of studies about the relationshipbetween mindfulness disposition and psychological outcomes during the COVID-19pandemic. Ten electronic databases were searched from November 2021 to March2022. A systematic review and a meta-analysis were conducted. Forty-four studies wereincluded in the meta-analysis, and 15 studies were considered for the qualitativesynthesis. Pearson correlations analysis was conducted. Anxiety and dispositionalmindfulness were found to be moderately negatively correlated (r = −0.397; p < .001),as well as depression and dispositional mindfulness (r = −0.323; p < .001). A weaknegative correlation was found for both psychological distress (r = −0.201; p < .002)and COVID-19-related fears (r = −0.136; p < .001). Longitudinal studies included inthe systematic review also suggest the stability of these associations over time.Mindfulness disposition is negatively associated with anxiety, stress, fears, anddepression during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mindfulness represented a protectivefactor against negative psychological reactions. Its promotion during other challengingperiods should be further explored

Objective: The study aimed to examine the effect of mental imagery on sports performance. Specifically, it was tested whether imagining flying (i.e., air travel) increases jumping performance in a group of female volleyball players. Methods: The study included 46 female young athletes (mean age = 15.23 years; standard deviation = 2.4) divided into two groups: the experimental group viewed a three-dimensional video that simulated a flying experience, while the control group watched neutral footage. The jump performance of both groups was measured before and after viewing the videos, using the Vertec Like (R) instrument to assess jump height. Participants were assessed for their flow disposition, mental imagery skills, and image vividness. Results: Comparing pre-post jump performance scores, the experimental group showed a significant improvement over the control group, with a medium-large effect size (d = 0.634). There was no significant association between flow disposition, mental imagery skills, image vividness, and pre-post jumping performance differences (respectively: beta = -0.107, p = .484; beta = -0.008, p = .957; beta = 0.024, p = .913). Conclusions: These findings suggest that the experience of imagining flying, enhanced with an immersive video, has a positive effect on jumping performance in a one-session study with young female volleyball players. This effect does not appear to be associated with pre-existing characteristics or the vividness of the image itself

Social anxiety: topics and emotions shared on Reddit before and during the coronavirus pandemic

    No full text
Social media platforms such as Reddit allow users to share information and find support about different topics. The present research investigated the topics, sentiments, and emotions discussed in a subreddit about social anxiety prior to and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) was used to discover latent topics from the data. Sentiment and emotion analyses were performed on the posts and comments associated with each topic. Two-proportions z-tests were computed to investigate whether the percentage of positive, negative, and neutral sentiments expressed in posts and comments for each topic differed between the period prior to and during COVID-19. Thirteen topics about social interactions, coping mechanisms, and physiological and cognitive aspects of social anxiety emerged: (1) Miscellaneous, (2) Interacting with others, (3) Family and time, (4) Medication and receiving help, (5) Physical features and appearance, (6) At work, (7) Physical sensations and cognitive aspects, (8) School activities, (9) Dating, (10) Communicating and asking questions, (11) Social media, (12) Stressful behaviors, and (13) Substances. There was no difference in the sentiment of posts and comments between the two time periods, with the exception of a few topics for which there were more neutral comments and fewer positive comments prior to the pandemic. The three most prominent emotions expressed were anticipation, trust, and fear. These findings inform on the topics discussed in an online community about social anxiety, and on differences in the sentiment expressed about those topics prior to and during the pandemic. Future research can investigate causal associations between the COVID-19 pandemic and online discussions about social anxiety, as well as the clinical implications of interacting in such online communities for individuals struggling with social anxiety

Biomimicry in Love-cage Design: Boosting Black Soldier Fly Mass Production

    No full text
This study employs a biomimicry design approach to optimise egg production in industrial black soldier fly (BSF, Hermetia illucens L.) breeding by enhancing love-cage environments. Two experiments assessed the impact of increasing resting surface area and altering surface colour to egg production, promoting lekking behaviour, in 1 m3 cages with a sex ratio (M:F) of 1.45:1 and fly density of ~16,000 flies. The first trial tested surface area/volume ratios (3.33, 3.99, 5.11, 7.17 m−1). A ratio of 3.99 m−1 significantly increased egg production (18.6±4.42 g) by reducing male competition for lekking spaces. The second trial evaluated surface colours (white, green, mixed). White elements achieved the highest egg output (19.4±4.85 g), likely due to superior light reflection, enhancing BSF conspecific detection for mating. No significant differences in hatching rates were observed across treatments (from 29.4±14.87% to 53.2±21.71% in trial one and 32.1±15.13% to 60.0±36.47% in the second one). Findings highlight the value of designing breeding systems that align with natural BSF behaviours to improve reproductive efficiency. Future research should explore factors like light spectrum and sex ratios for further optimisation of BSF breeding

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
