Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Atuação do farmacêutico clínico em unidades de pronto atendimento: revisão integrativa
Get PDFA Unidade de Pronto Atendimento é um serviço de saúde com nível de complexidade intermediário, situado entre a atenção primária e a rede hospitalar, integrada a uma rede de urgência e emergência. Neste cenário, o farmacêutico clínico vem se destacando na promoção da melhoria clínica do paciente, garantindo terapia segura, eficaz e adequada, no contexto de urgência e emergência. O estudo teve como objetivo reunir as evidências sobre a atuação do farmacêutico clínico em unidades de pronto atendimento, identificando suas principais atividades por meio de uma revisão integrativa. A coleta de dados foi realizada no mês de julho de 2025, com os descritores em inglês: Pharmacists”; "Clinical Pharmacy"; "Emergency Care Unit"; "Emergency care" e em português: “Farmacêuticos” ou "Farmácia Clínica" e "Unidade de Pronto Atendimento”, nas bases de dados: Literatura Latino-americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Google Scholar, PubMed, Science direct, Scopus e Web of Science. Os critérios de inclusão utilizados foram artigos completos disponíveis eletronicamente e adequados ao tema escolhido. Nove pesquisas atenderam aos critérios e compuseram a análise final, sendo a maioria publicada em língua portuguesa. As principais intervenções farmacêuticas realizadas nos trabalhos avaliados, foram as relacionadas a ajuste de dose, reconciliação de medicamentos, interações medicamentosas, substituição dos horários de administração dos medicamentos, incompatibilidade físico-química, reação adversa a medicamento, acréscimo de medicamento necessário, alterações relacionadas a inibidor da bomba de prótons, troca de forma farmacêutica e estabilidade. Além disso, dois estudos destacaram a economia resultante da atuação do farmacêutico em pronto atendimentos. Conclui-se que o farmacêutico clínico possui papel marcante na segurança e na eficácia terapêutica ao paciente em serviço de urgência e emergência.

La Unidad de Pronta Atención es un servicio de salud con un nivel de complejidad intermedio, situado entre la atención primaria y la red hospitalaria, integrada en una red de urgencias y emergencias. En este escenario, el farmacéutico clínico se ha destacado en la promoción de la mejoría clínica del paciente, garantizando una terapia segura, eficaz y adecuada, en el contexto de la urgencia y emergencia. El estudio tuvo como objetivo recopilar las evidencias sobre la actuación del farmacéutico clínico en unidades de pronta atención, identificando sus principales actividades mediante una revisión integradora. La recolección de datos se realizó en el mes de julio de 2025, con los descriptores en inglés: "Pharmacists"; "Clinical Pharmacy"; "Emergency Care Unit"; "Emergency care" y en portugués: "Farmacêuticos" o "Farmácia Clínica" y "Unidade de Pronto Atendimento", en las bases de datos: Literatura Latinoamericana y del Caribe en Ciencias de la Salud (LILACS), Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus y Web of Science. Los criterios de inclusión utilizados fueron artículos completos disponibles electrónicamente y adecuados al tema elegido. Nueve investigaciones cumplieron los criterios y constituyeron el análisis final, siendo la mayoría publicadas en portugués. Las principales intervenciones farmacéuticas realizadas en los trabajos evaluados fueron las relacionadas con ajuste de dosis, conciliación de medicamentos, interacciones medicamentosas, sustitución de los horarios de administración de los medicamentos, incompatibilidad físico-química, reacción adversa a medicamentos, adición de medicamentos necesarios, cambios relacionados con inhibidores de la bomba de protones, cambio de forma farmacéutica y estabilidad. Además, dos estudios destacaron el ahorro resultante de la actuación del farmacéutico en atenciones de urgencia. Se concluye que el farmacéutico clínico posee un papel destacado en la seguridad y en la eficacia terapéutica del paciente en servicios de urgencia y emergencia
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
