No full textA study of the documentation relating to the Compagnia del Corpus Domini in Figline Valdarno, housed in the Florence State Archives, makes it possible to usnquestionably establish the authorship of two oil paintings on wood panel of the Sorrowful Virgin and Saint John the Evangelist in mourning, now in the sacristy of the local Collegiate Church of Santa Maria, to the early period of Ludovico Cigoli. These formed the lateral elements of a macchina d’altare dedicated to the Holy Crucifix, dismantled in the eighteenth century during a modernisation project that also involved the painting of a fresco in the vault above by Tommaso Gherardini, in 1774. Cigoli’s two panels, datable to 1586-1587, provide a key element for the understanding of his stylistic evolution, when after his early works, influenced by Pontormo’s maniera, he turned to the more experimental stimuli prompted by his discovery of Correggio and Barocci

No full textNella prima metà del Seicento, i giovani patrizi e letterati che gravitavano intorno all’Accademia degli Incogniti e all’Università patavina, importante fucina dell’aristotelismo eterodosso, fecero della Repubblica di Venezia il principale centro italiano del libero pensiero. Tra le opere prodotte, l’Alcibiade fanciullo a scuola di Antonio Rocco rappresenta forse uno dei più riusciti esercizi filosofici di legittimazione della libertà sessuale, a lungo censurato e deprecato per il contenuto osceno della trama. Il contributo si propone di rilevare alcune indicative assonanze tra il materiale culturale dell’Alcibiade e i ragionamenti eterodossi espressi dagli inquisiti per sodomia dalle magistrature veneziane, secolari e religiose, nel corso del Seicento e del Settecento

No full textQuesta tesi riguarda i modelli strutturali per le serie storiche conosciuti come modelli State Space.
I modelli strutturali per le serie storiche sono una classe di modelli parametrici che si basano sulle componenti latenti. Il loro compito è di modellare le principali caratteristiche di una serie storica come per esempio il trend, ciclo economico e stagionalità. La tesi è divisa in tre parti : la prima parte (capitolo 2) riguarda i modelli a voltatilità stocastica, la seconda parte (capitolo 3) riguarda i modelli fattoriali e la terza ed ultima parte (capitolo 4) tratta la selezione di modelli in ambito Bayesiano.

No full textEach phase of the ISM has a temperature that results from a balance of heating and cooling. These processes differ from place to place in the Galaxy and vary with time. Under particular conditions, the resulting thermal equilibrium can be unstable and promote the separation of coexisting thermodynamic phases in pressure equilibrium with each other. Determining the temperature is a big challenge for numerical modeling as many different microphysical processes have to be considered and, usually, simplifying assumptions have to be made. This chapter discusses the most important known heating and cooling processes for various physical conditions (i.e., from the diffuse ISM to planet-forming disks). We provide the necessary equations and references to the required data but also discuss simplified methods and their assumptions for each process. We conclude with a brief description of how to solve the heating/cooling balance considering different levels of complexity

No full textThe formation of stars and planetary systems is a complex phenomenon that relies on the interplay of multiple physical processes. Nonetheless, it represents a crucial stage for our understanding of the Universe, and in particular of the conditions leading to the formation of key molecules (e.g. water) on comets and planets. Herschel observations demonstrated that stars form in gaseous filamentary structures in which the main constituent is molecular hydrogen (H2). Depending on its nuclear spin H2 can be found in two forms: ‘ortho’ with parallel spins and ‘para’ where the spins are anti-parallel. The relative ratio among these isomers, the ortho-to-para ratio (OPR), plays a crucial role in a variety of processes related to the thermodynamics of star-forming gas and to the fundamental chemistry affecting the deuteration of water in molecular clouds, commonly used to determine the origin of water in Solar System bodies. Here, for the first time, we assess the evolution of the OPR starting from the warm neutral medium by means of state-of-the-art 3D magnetohydrodynamic simulations of turbulent molecular clouds. Our results show that star-forming clouds exhibit a low OPR (≪0.1) already at moderate densities (∼1000 cm−3). We also constrain the cosmic-ray ionisation rate, finding that 10−16 s−1 is the lower limit required to explain the observations of diffuse clouds. Our results represent a step forward in the understanding of the star and planet formation processes providing a robust determination of the chemical initial conditions for both theoretical and observational studies
