No full textAs a main feature of plant autotrophy, assimilation of inorganic nitrogen is not only of fundamental scientific interest, but also a crucial factor in crop productivity. In its broad sense – from root uptake of various forms of N in the soil to allocation of N assimilates to different organs – it involves a wide range of physiological processes whose mechanisms are far from being fully understood. The aim of this special issue is to provide a wide overview of recent progress in this field, and to draw an interdisciplinary picture of the prospects for future research

He is also cofounder and partner of Carbone 4, a consultancy firm focusing on energy transition and adaptation to climate change. The interview first revolves around the academic content Alain Grandjean considers as the bare necessities to be taught in higher education, no matter the curriculum. This should take the form of a basic synthetic training which takes into account the major environmental issues without too much technicality as well as lessons in accounting and economics, which he considers essential. The interview also looks more specifically at engineering and business schools. Then Alain Grandjean shares his views on the effectiveness of different ways to engage for the transition -like radical individual lifestyle transformations and civil disobiedience. Contribution of ammonium transporters to growth, nitrate uptake, metabolism and development in Arabidopsis thaliana
No full textStickstoff (N) ist nicht nur ein essentieller Nährstoff, sondern beeinflusst auch die Pflanzenentwicklung. Wie Ammonium- (NH4+) Transporter (AMTs) und Nitrat- (NO3-) Transporter (NRTs) interagieren und sich gegenseitig beeinflussen, ist nicht vollständig aufgeklärt. Um den Beitrag von AMTs auf NO3--Aufnahme, Metabolismus und Blühzeitpunkt zu untersuchen, wurde die NH4+-aufnahmedefekte AMT-vierfach Insertionslinie qko für physiologische, molekularbiologische und biochemische Analysen verwendet. Die vorliegende Studie zeigt, dass AMT-vermittelter NH4+-Transport an der Regulierung der Expression von NRTs beteiligt ist, um die hochaffine NO3--Aufnahme zu modulieren. Des Weiteren hemmte die Zufuhr von NH4+, im Vergleich zur NO3--Gabe, die Induktion der Blüte und die Expression von Blühzeitpunkt-Genen, inklusive CONSTANS, auf AMT-abhängige Weise. Zusammenfassend ermöglichte diese Studie die Entdeckung neuer Funktionen von AMT-Transportern, die über ihre Aufgabe in der NH4+-Aufnahme hinausgehen.Nitrogen (N) is not only an essential nutrient, but also affects plant development. How ammonium (NH4+) transporters (AMTs) and nitrate (NO3-) transporters (NRTs) interact and influence each other to modulate N acquisition and flowering time is not fully understood. To study the contribution of AMTs on NO3- uptake, metabolism and flowering time, the NH4+ uptake-defective AMT quadruple knock-out line qko was used for physiological, molecular biological and biochemical analyzes. The present study shows that AMT-mediated NH4+ transport is involved in regulating the expression of NRTs to modulate high-affinity NO3- uptake. Furthermore, NH4+ supply, in comparison to NO3- provision, suppressed floral induction and the expression of flowering time genes including CONSTANS in an AMT-dependent manner. Taken together, this study uncovered novel roles of AMT-type transporters that go beyond their function in NH4+ uptake.vorgelegt von Alberto Manasse Laginh
