Climate change in a critical planetary perspective: Dipesh Chakrabarty and the Anthropocene vs. Capitalocene controversy
The essay traces Dipesh Chakrabarty’s reflections on the Anthropocene, the epoch of “anthropogenic” climate change, to discuss them in light of the critiques developed in ecomarxist circles, particularly by Jason W. Moore, Andreas Malm, and Alf Hornborg. Chakrabarty, a well-known exponent of postcolonial studies and keen critic of globalization processes, points out that the “globe” of “globalization” is not the same “globe” of “global warming,” but rather “the planet” – the Earth-system – with its many forms of life. A complex trajectory of deliberation leads the author to question the “geological agency” of human beings and, ultimately, argue that the climate crisis can be better understood and addressed from a “planetary perspective” (rather than a humanocentric one) capable of placing “life in general” at the centre of discussion. In their critiques of the Anthropocene narrative, Moore, Malm, and Hornborg speak instead of a “Capitalocene.” Through comparison with this critical stance, the essay highlights and discusses some of the theoretical premises underpinning Chakrabarty’s thinking so as to advance the hypothesis of a critical planetary perspective. Such a perspective recognizes capitalism as an ecological regime and climate change as a political challenge in which the problem of human domination over the rest of nature is clearly intertwined with the problem of domination and privilege in interhuman relations

CHEM 1500: Chemical bonding and organic chemistry
Most everything you do and encounter during your day involves chemistry. Making coffee, cooking eggs, and toasting bread involve chemistry. The products you use—like soap and shampoo, the fabrics you wear, the electronics that keep you connected to your world, the gasoline that propels your car—all of these and more involve chemical substances and processes. Whether you are aware or not, chemistry is part of your everyday world. Not peer reviewedtextbookLibreTextonline OER textbookOERgeneral chemistryfirst yearchemistryonline resourc

Limberg flap for reconstruction after excision of multiple conglomerate epidermoid cysts
Epidermoid cysts are common, subepidermal, keratin containing nodules, found anywhere on the body in 3rd and 4th decade of life. Surgical treatment is by complete excision with wall of cyst intact. Author presents a 40-year-old male with multiple sebaceous cysts in close proximity to one another on his left thigh. Individual cyst excision would have lead to a difficult primary closure, need for multiple incisions, with contracture and poor cosmesis due to the close proximity of the cysts. instead, the cysts were excised in mass and limberg flap was used for reconstruction and primary closure. Patient was followed up for 6 months. The objective of this study was to prove that limberg flap yields superior cosmesis and healing by primary intention in reconstruction after excision of multiple epidermoid cysts
The Unbelieved and Historians, Part I: A Challenge
In 1855, Thakur led a rebellion of the tribal Santals against the British in eastern India. Some historians refused to admit Thakur's involvement in the event because of a three‐century‐old prejudice against giving supernatural beings agency when we write history. In Provincializing Europe, Dipesh Chakrabarty argues that historians must "anthropologize" such beliefs rather than take them seriously. Taking a cue from their less‐than‐marginal place in scholarship today, we call supernatural beings the " Unbelieved " and the explicit or implicit denial of them "Dogmatic Secularism." We argue that objective historians should not discount, in advance, evidence that points to the existence or involvement of the Unbelieved in history; instead, we should cultivate a sceptical attitude towards all sources. In this, the first half of a two‐part essay, we trace the boundaries of this epistemological problem in the scholarship about the Santal Rebellion and beyond.Peer reviewedThis article includes a video abstract available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBelte4FXF
Prowincjonalizowanie feminizmu w polskich badaniach literackich
The author of the text analyzes the strategies of provincializing the Polish feminism and gender studies. Starting points for interpretations in the article are Dipesh Chakrabarty’s book – Provincializing Europe. Postcolonial Thought and Historical Difference and feminist publications about modernity, nationalism, capitalism in Poland. In the article the category of a province is considered as an emblem existing in a new regionalism’s discourse. The author claims that the history of the category of a province is entangled in the ambiguities which are related to the glocal understanding of a region; she also reflects on the relations between feminism, regionalism and local experiences of a global reality. The author of the text analyzes the strategies of provincializing the Polish feminism and gender studies. Plasma Assisted Surface Atomic Layer Substitution For Creating Janus 2D Materials
abstract: More recently there have been a tremendous advancement in theoretical studies showing remarkable properties that could be exploited from transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) Janus crystals through various applications. These Janus crystals are having a proven intrinsic electrical field due to breaking of out-of-plane inversion symmetry in a conventional TMDC when one of the chalcogenides atomic layer is being completely replaced by a layer of different chalcogen element. However, due to lack of accurate processing control at nanometer scales, key for creating a highly crystalline Janus structure has not yet been familiarized. Thus, experimental characterization and implication of these Janus crystals are still in a state of stagnation. This work presents a new advanced methodology that could prove to be highly efficient and effective for selective replacement of top layer atomic sites at room temperature conditions.
This is specifically more focused on proving an easy repeatability for replacement of top atomic layer chalcogenide from a parent structure of already grown TMDC monolayer (via CVD) by a post plasma processing technique. Though this developed technique is not limited to only chalcogen atom replacement but can be extended to any type of surface functionalization requirements.
Basic characterization has been performed on the Janus crystal of SeMoS and SeWS where, creation and characterization of SeWS has been done for the very first time, evidencing a repeatable nature of the developed methodology.Dissertation/ThesisMasters Thesis Materials Science and Engineering 201
