Langzeit Stabilisation der Organischen Solarzellen mittels Additiven

    No full text
Daher haben diese Erkenntnisse eine große Bedeutung für die Vermarktung von OPV.Organic solar cells (OSC) have a high commercial potential, although certain issues still have to be resolved. Big efforts have already been invested into perfecting the constituent materials with regard to efficiency, and the current peak efficiency lies at 12 %, as reported by Heliatek on vacuum deposited oligomer tandem solar cells. However, the stability of devices remains their weak point. Due to their organic nature, OSC are extremely sensitive to light, heat, oxygen and humidity, all of which are commonly present in standard working conditions. In my thesis I examine photooxidative stabilization by introducing stabilizing compounds into the active layer. A variety of compounds with different stabilizing mechanisms, including radical scavengers, hydrogen donors, UV absorbers and hydroperoxide decomposers, were tested in the model active layer system consisting of poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl):phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (P3HT:[60]PCBM). Such devices were aged in lifetime setup at 1 Sun illumination at moderate temperature in air. A tremendous increase in accumulated power generation, by over a factor of 3, was achieved with stabilizers of hydrogen donor and UV absorber classes, which was attributed, via spectroscopic and microscopic studies, to a reduction in formation of free radicals. These results underscore the potential of compounds known to successfully stabilize insulating plastic for stabilization of OSC. However, unlike in the case of insulating plastics, additional care has to be given that the energy levels of the additive are not overlapping with the effective band gap of the photoactive layer and that the resulting blend morphology does not disrupt the photoinduced charge transfer. Using P3HT:[60]PCBM as the model system, the proof of principle could be demonstrated that ternary blending OSC photoactive layers of with antioxidants and UV absorbers can be applied to substantially prolong the lifetime of devices. This approach could easily be extended to other polymer:fullerene systems, under the condition that its presence does not influence the morphology. These findings hold a great importance for the commercialization of OSC, as they offer a route to achieving highly reliable devices by adding small portions of cheap stabilizer compounds, regardless of the intrinsic photochemical stability of the polymer and the fulleren

This work presents the optical characterisation of GaN and GaN/AlGaN/GaN HEMT structures with Ga-polarity. Photoreflectance (PR), electroreflectance (ER), photoluminescence (PL), and spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) measurements have been carried out for determination of the main properties. A GaN sample grown by HVPE was used as unstrained reference and was investigated with PL and PR for the determination of the transition energies of the excitons. The PR and PL yielded transition energies of the free A and B-excitons of the GaN samples. Measurements from T=5K to the ambient temperature were accomplished to specify the strain in GaN. SE at GaN and AlGaN-samples was used to obtain the layer thicknesses. A first unknown structure at 3,72eV was observed at GaN/AlGaN/GaN heterostructures. The following temperature-dependent photocurrent- and ER- measurements clarified the origin of the signal. In consequence of these experiments a thin AlGaN layer with about 15% Al was grown at the surface instead of pure GaN. - PL measurements in the temperature range from 5K to 295K were accomplished to determine the three free-excitons (A, B and C) in GaN. The Comparison of these temperature-dependent transition energies to the unstrained HVPE sample allows the determination of the strain condition at each temperature. From ER measurements at the HEMT structures the FKOs were analysed to achieve the internal electrical field of the barrier. - Thus the two- dimensional electron gas (2DEG) density was determined in dependence on the DC voltage. Measurements of the spectra at 5K, 80K and 295K prove the independence of the threshold field of the 2DEG at these temperatures. The polarisation gradients at the AlGaN/GaN interface were examined by means of the threshold field from ER measurements. Optical results in comparison to XRD measurements indicate a small deviation in the polarisation gradient. The reason for this disagreement is probably caused by an incorrect used bowing parameter taken from literature. Ilmenau, Techn. Univ., Diplomarbeit, 200

In this work, a pioneering attempt to analyze the influence of superconducting gallium-rich precipitates on the electrical transport properties of heavily-doped silicon and germanium layers is presented. An innovative path for the fabrication of superconducting layers in commercial silicon and germanium wafers by ion implantation and short term annealing is demonstrated. Ion implantation via a thin dielectric cover layer was used to introduce a gallium concentration far above the equilibrium solid solubility limit into the silicon and germanium layers. To initiate the redistribution of the implanted gallium, rapid thermal annealing was subsequently employed. The redistribution of the gallium was investigated and the formation of 10 nm thin gallium-rich layers at the cover layer/semiconducting interface was observed. A new model describing the redistribution mechanism was proposed. It has been observed, that for gallium concentrations at the interface exceeding a critical value of 15 at.%, the layers could become superconducting at temperatures below 6 – 7 K. This critical temperature is comparable to formerly studied thin amorphous gallium films. Therefore, for the first time it is demonstrated, that gallium-rich precipitates lead a critical temperature comparable to that of amorphous gallium. With increasing annealing time superconductor insulator transition was observed. Such transitions are often studied as function of layer thickness. Following the data available in the literature, this phase transition is connected to the normal state sheet resistance. As gallium-rich precipitates are hard to detect in germanium due to the small differences in mass and electronic structure, the structural investigations focus on the silicon layers. Most results of this model system can be transferred to the properties of gallium in germanium. This comparison shows that only the critical temperature of the gallium-rich layers does not depend on the substrate material. Up to now, superconductivity in gallium-doped germanium was only observed at temperatures below 1 K. Based on the results presented in this thesis it can be concluded, that the critical temperature of the superconducting state in gallium-doped germanium is a suitable parameter to distinguish between a doping related superconducting state and superconductivity because of gallium clusters.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Conjugated polymer/fullerene based plastic solar cells represent an exciting alternative to inorganic ones because of their low production costs, flexibility and low weight. At present, commercialisation of plastic solar cells is limited due to their relatively low efficiency in comparison to silicon ones. In order to understand the operation of plastic solar cells and to increase their efficiency, more information about structure of absorber layer is needed. Especially the connection between structure and properties of the absorber layer is of great importance. The aim of this work was to study the correlation between structural, optical and transport properties of conjugated polymer/fullerene films, which are used as absorber layer in plastic solar cells. We start by investigation of pristine polythiophene films. From X-ray diffraction and spectroscopic ellipsometry studies it follows, that the polythiophene films consist of a highly ordered interface layer. After this interface layer the order of the polymer drops off with increasing distance from the substrate. The decisive for growth of the film parameters were established. A correlation between the anisotropic charge carrier mobilities and the film structure was shown. After this, the polythiophene/fullerene films were investigated. We found, that annealing of such films supports the formation of polythiophene crystallites due to enhanced diffusion of fullerene at elevated temperatures. The crystallisation of polythiophene leads to an increased optical absorption in visible region due to stronger interchain interaction between polythiophene molecules. The observed increase of the efficiency of the polythiophene/fullerene solar cells after annealing was explained by improved optical absorption together with improved hole mobility

Organic photovoltaics is about to become a competitor fort he established inorganic thin film photovoltaic technologies. It inhibits several important advantages: flexibility, light weight, and potential semi-transparency and production speed. Even the photovoltaic power conversion efficiency is reaching comparable values. At the moment the devices’ lifetime is the limiting factor for commercialization. For the degradation mechanisms of the devices, analogies can be seen for the between organic photovoltaics and organic light emitting diodes. For both cases, the current collecting electrodes were identified as the major reason for degradation. The experimental approach of this thesis to elucidate the different degradation pathways in organic photovoltaic devices is to use several imaging methods together with standard current voltage characteristics. In combination with the knowledge about the layer structure of the device under test, not only lateral information but also in depth information can be derived to some extent. Distinct conclusions about device degradation can be derived by applying all these methods with timely resolution. The advantages of imaging methods about direct methods for material analysis are reduced costs, low time consumption and that they are non-destructive.The main results of this thesis include new insights to the process of oxidation of different electrode materials, the stabilizing influence of a titanium oxide interlayer, the influence of substrates and encapsulations on the degradation of organic solar cells and last but not least to the intrinsic degradation. A polymer solar cell in conventional architecture with several years of lifetime could be demonstrated. “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Excited State Properties in Dicyanovinyl-Oligothiophene Donor Materials for Small Molecule Organic Solar Cells

Key issues in improving small molecule organic solar cells (SMOSC) are the need for new absorber materials and optimized active layer morphology. This thesis deals with the improvement of SMOSC on the donor material side. Promising donor materials (D) are provided by dicyanovinyl endcapped oligothiophenes DCV2-nT (n = 3, . . . , 6) synthesized in the group of Prof. Bäuerle at the University of Ulm. Here, DCV2-nT (n = 3, 5) with different alkyl side chains are characterized. Side chain variations mainly influence the aggregation of molecules in pristine films as well as in blend films with the commonly used acceptor (A) fullerene C60. With changes in the layer morphology, important physical properties in thin film like absorption spectra, energy levels, as well as excited state properties are changed. The focus of this work are excited state properties accessed by photoinduced absorption spectroscopy (PIA). PIA probes the long living excited states in pristine and blend films, i. e. triplet excitons, anions, and cations. For a series of four dicyanovinyl-terthiophenes DCV2-3T (without side chains, with two methyl, two butyl, and four butyl side chains) a systematic study of the effect of alkyl side chains on the aggregation in neat and blend film is discussed. In consequence the efficiency of the energy transfer mechanism between DCV2-3T and C60 is affected. It turns out that in solution spectra and cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements, the variation of alkyl side chains has almost no influence. However, in thin film there is strong impact on the molecular arrangement confirmed by strongly varying absorption spectra, ionization potentials, and surface roughnesses. Furthermore, PIA measurements reveal that the energy transfer efficiency between D and A in general decreases with increasing side chain length, but is most efficient for a compound with methyl side chains. For blends of dicyanovinyl-quinquethiophenes (DCV2-5T) with C60, the layer morphology is influenced by two different methods. On one hand substrate heating is applied while deposition of the active layer, on the other hand DCV2-5Ts with different alkyl side chains (four methyl and four butyl side chains) are used. Deposition on a heated substrate (80°C) results in an improved solar cell performance, assigned to the formation of a sufficient phase separation of D and A phase in the active layer. This leads to reduced recombination losses and closed percolation paths. The morphological change can be correlated to an increased lifetime of cations. In blends deposited on a heated substrate, the donor cation lifetime increases by almost one order of magnitude from around 10 μs to ≈ 80 μs. This increase of carrier lifetime is both detected optically by PIA as well as electrically by impedance spectroscopy. The increase in lifetime is consequently assigned to a better spatial separation of positive and negative charges induced by the phase separation. Comparing DCV2-5T with methyl and butyl side chains results in a similar effect: The dicyanovinyl-quinquethiophene with methyl side chains leads to an improved solar cell device performance compared to devices comprising the compound with butyl side chains as donor. The improved device performance is again accompanied by an increase in cation lifetime detected by PIA.:Contents Publications 1. Introduction 2. Organic semiconductors 2.1. Introduction 2.2. Introduction 2.
