    The main purpose of this research is to describe the concept of “self" according to Rollo May, by departing from the previous concepts of “self”, in this case, from the perspective of psychology and existentialism. The results of this study was found that existentialism is a practical philosophy that brings humans to understand life with self-awareness, and anxiety leads to individual awareness as a person who exists in the world.The author uses a qualitative literature method which focuses on one of Rollo May's books, Man's Search for Himself, and assisted by other works.     Fouad Laroui, a talented Moroccan author who writes in French and at times Dutch, is an exemplar of the in-between – in fact, the in-between-several-cultures. Like many Moroccans, he is “neither here nor there”. His original work, notable for the author’s dual belonging as well as its highly ironic vein, embodies multiple facets of multiculturalism, which he experienced during his youth at the French “lycée” in Casablanca, his trips to the western world (he now lives in Amsterdam) and through openness to European cultures. His stories in French are enriched with diverse references, resulting in a sort of patchwork – a jumble of words where the French language is present, but it is coloured by other languages and literary reminiscences (Laroui cited in Martin & Drevet 107).This article reflects on the author’s relationship with the French language and culture, by analysing the sense of identity and search for identity of his characters whose connections with France, and the western world, are marked by conflicting feelings, bearing traces of the Maghreb authors’ own sense of being torn. Is French an instrument of oppression or emancipation?     The frescoes of the Novalesa abbey complex, from restoration to preventive conservation through non-destructive diagnostics

    The work presented shows the initial results of an interdisciplinary project focusing on actions necessary for the implementation of strategic maintenance plans to achieve preventive conservation of heritage systems. Started in May 2021, the project aims to assess and tune strategies for the prevention and mitigation of degradation phenomena affecting four historical buildings belonging to the architectonical site of the Novalesa abbey (Turin), with a particular focus on its medieval frescoes. It involves different professional actors (restorers, architects, conservation diagnostic scientists, and art historians) as well as the area's inhabitants. Based on the results of studies conducted over time on the wall paintings in the Chapel of St. Eldradus, one of the most important examples of Romanesque art in north-western Italy, the work methodology was extended to other areas of the monastery complex in need of attention. The apse of the church, the Chapels of St. Michael and the aforementioned St. Eldradus, and finally the so-called 'Camera Stellata' are now the subject of research in terms of the correlation between environmental conditions and the deterioration of the wall paintings, through the use of scientific nDT techniques and various types of analysis. The project deployed a system to collect the needed knowledge while managing the operations related to the preventive conservation plan (as i.e. salt extraction, local consolidation, etc.) and it is tended to be an asset supporting the project according to ICCROM and ICOMOS. Furthermore, the project is committed to involve the communities through dissemination initiatives. The Novalesa project was activated in the framework of PRIMA initiative funded by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, having also the financial support of Città Metropolitana di Torino and Benedettini Congregation.     Multifaceted Aspects of HIV-1 Nucleocapsid Inhibition by TAR-Targeting Peptidyl-Anthraquinones Bearing Terminal Aromatic Moieties

    2,6-dipeptidyl-anthraquinones are polycyclic planar systems substituted at opposite ring positions by short aminoacyl side chains. Derivatives with positively charged terminal amino acids showed in vitro inhibition of HIV-1 nucleocapsid (NC) protein correlating with threading intercalation through nucleic acid substrates. We found that the variation of the terminal amino acid into an aromatic moiety has profound effects on the NC inhibition of TAR&ndash;RNA melting, granting enhanced interaction with the protein. While all compounds showed appreciable NC and TAR binding, they exhibited different strengths driven by the length of the peptidyl side chains and by the stereochemistry of the terminal tyrosine. Unexpectedly, the best inhibitors of NC-induced TAR melting, characterized by the D- configuration of tyrosine, were able to form ternary complexes without competing with TAR&ndash;NC recognition sites, as shown by native mass spectrometry experiments. Furthermore, the hydrophobicity of the terminal residue enhances membrane permeation, with positive implications for further studies on these NC&ndash;TAR-targeted compounds

    In contemporary times, discussions about anxiety distance it from its existential connotation, highlighting its morbid character as a symptom or mental disorder. Rollo May, an American psychologist, in the mid twentieth century points to the need to broaden this view by proposing existential psychotherapy. In this article, we carry out theoretical research aiming to investigate anxiety in the writings of this author, in dialogue with a clinical phenomenology of ambiguity. For clinical phenomenology, anxiety is part of a fundamental affective disposition that lies at the base of existence and its pathological expression reveals the impairment in intersubjective subject /world contact. Rollo May approaches this view, relating anxiety with freedom and becoming, but distances itself from clinical phenomenology by referencing an encapsulated subjectivity.En los tiempos contemporáneos, las discusiones sobre la ansiedad lo alejan de su connotación existencial, destacando su carácter mórbido como síntoma o trastorno mental. Rollo May, psicólogo estadounidense, en el siglo XX señala la necesidad de ampliar este punto de vista proponiendo psicoterapia existencial. En este artículo, llevamos a cabo una investigación teórica con el objetivo de investigar la ansiedad en los escritos del referido autor, en diálogo con una fenomenología clínica de la ambigüedad. Para la fenomenología clínica, la ansiedad es parte de una disposición afectiva fundamental que se encuentra en la base de la existencia y su expresión patológica revela el deterioro en el contacto intersubjetivo sujeto/mundo. Rollo May aborda este punto de vista relacionando la ansiedad con la libertad y el devenir, pero se distancia de la fenomenología clínica al retratar la subjetividad encapsulada.Na contemporaneidade, as discussões sobre ansiedade a distanciam de sua conotação existencial, ressaltando seu caráter mórbido como sintoma ou transtorno mental. Rollo May, psicólogo americano, em meados do século XX apontou para a necessidade de ampliar esta visão ao propor uma psicoterapia existencial. Neste artigo, realizamos pesquisa teórica com objetivo de investigar a ansiedade nos escritos do referido autor, no diálogo com uma fenomenologia clínica da ambiguidade. Para a fenomenologia clínica, a ansiedade é parte de uma disposição afetiva fundamental que se encontra na base da existência e sua expressão patológica revela o prejuízo no contato intersubjetivo sujeito/mundo. Rollo May se aproxima dessa visão ao relacionar a ansiedade com a liberdade e o devir, mas distancia-se da fenomenologia clínica ao retratar a subjetividade encapsulada
