However, such growth of new technological achievements was not accompanied always with the necessary caution steps and protection measures against possible breakdown and destructions, which in specific cases and under certain conditions could be disastrous. In this talk commemorating Academician Vukobratovic and drawing from his endeavors on the so-called active systems and research he shared with me as well as our academic cooperation during the last decade of his active work, while examining some advantages, his merits for the entire field are pointed in here out to the best author's abilities. Some active systems such as adaptation for active noise and machine vibration control via active damping by force feedback as well as mobile robotic unmanned air and underwater vehicles as well as platoon of ground vehicles are note considered. Rather focus is put on active controls of earthquake induced vibrations and high-rise structures, manufacturing processes, wheeled mobile manipulators and walking humanoid robots are discussed in more detail while on homing missiles are only mentioned. In due course, some solutions to contact task in dynamic environment that are linked with active systems are also touched upon
poeMS: an exploration of poetry as a way to communicate lived experiences of multiple sclerosis
This study examines whether poetry written by people with multiple sclerosis (MS) may be a useful form for reflecting on their illness experiences. Much recent illness writing comprises prose narratives conforming to either the restitution or quest tropes (Frank, 2013), however these models may be unhelpful for people with MS because of their focus on cure or their moral imperative to personal growth. Poetry is increasingly used by social science researchers to present participant interview data and facilitate different ways of knowing than traditional prose texts. This research takes the novel approach of exploring poems written in the study by participants with MS.
Nine people living with relapse-remitting, primary progressive or secondary progressive MS were recruited to the online study through MS charity websites and social media. They participated in one initial semi-structured interview about their MS experiences, and then took part in four group poetry workshops. The researcher also has MS and the methods of data creation were designed to be collaborative. Follow up semi-structured interviews were conducted so participants could reflect on their study experiences. Four contacts of the original participants were also recruited into the study. These ‘reader participants’, who did not have MS, read some of their contacts’ study poems and participated in one semi-structured interview about the experience.
Holistic discourse analysis of poems and spoken interview and workshop data was guided by Bakhtin (1984, 1986) and Gee (2014). This analysis identified three key themes in participants’ poems and spoken data: being MS patients in relation to medical teams; MS in the workplace; and social impacts of MS. Further analysis revealed the obstacles faced by participants in these different settings and illuminated the ways in which they constructed their identities in order to negotiate or minimise these challenges. Participants’ poetic inquiries incorporated phenomenological, social and political reflections in both narrative and non-narrative poems. Participants derived positive outcomes from working collaboratively together in poetry workshops and also from sharing their poems with each other, me, and a small number of their family, friends or carers. I conclude that poetry offers a novel method for people living with MS to contribute to personal and academic discourse on health and disability

The sufficient conditions of insuring stabilization of augmented systems are obtained under the state-dependent and time-dependent switching law, respectively. In the end, a numerical example is provided to demonstrate the feasibility of the presented results
A condition for output-to-state stability of switched nonlinear systems
Dimirovski, Georgi M. (Dogus Author)Output-to-state stability of switched nonlinear systems is studied in this paper. A sufficient condition for output-to-state stability is given in terms of series expressions and under the assumption that all subsystems are output-to-state stable. For a class of switched nonlinear systems we also show how to satisfy this condition by appropriately choosing dwell time. A lower bound on such dwell time is explicitly calculated. AU results are derived constructively
Synchronized dancing of an industrial manipulator and humans with arbitrary music

A user-friendly program was designed to help design dance choreography. The program, LabanRobot, has a simple interface that can be used without any prior knowledge of the robot. The choreographer should keep geometry in mind and plan the dance sequence accordingly. The conversion of dance sequences to robot motion is done automatically by the program. Details of the algorithm are given. Examples of simulation and on-stage-performance are shown
