Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. A mobilidade do consumo no Aglomerado Urbano de Maringá-PR / The mobility of consumption at the Urban Area of Maringá-PR.
Get PDFNo intuito de atender às novas demandas capitalistas que lhes são constantemente instigadas, os homens têm se submetido às imposições deste sistema econômico e realizado um consumo exacerbado. Porém, como a disseminação de bens e serviços não é espacialmente homogênea, o consumidor muitas vezes precisa se submeter à mobilidade para ter acesso a determinadas mercadorias oferecidas nos maiores centros. Este fluxo populacional que se instaura na relação entre cidades é denominado mobilidade do consumo. Privilegiamos, neste artigo, o movimento que converge na cidade de Maringá-PR, procedente das cidades que compõem seu aglomerado urbano, localizada na região Norte Central Paranaense. A mobilidade do consumo acontece em volume significativo e desencadeia uma produção espacial desigual. However, as the spreading of property and services aren´t spatially homogeneous, the consumer many times needs to submit himself/herself to the mobility to have access to specific merchandises offered in the biggest centers. This populational flux, which establishes itself in the relationship among the cities, it is denominated Mobility of Consumption. We privileged in this article the movement, which converges in Maringá city, in the state of Paraná, resulting from the cities, which compose its urban area, localized in Paranaense Central North Region. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

TRILHA ECOLÓGICA NO PARQUE GUARTELÁ, TIBAGI (ESTADO DO PARANÁ): UMA PRÁTICA DE ENSINO PARA CURSOS SUPERIORES DE ENGENHARIAS
Get PDFResumo: Desde o final do século passado, estudos que envolvam o meio ambiente têm sido incentivados, principalmente, após a realização das primeiras conferências mundiais que trataram do tema com a devida relevância. No âmbito da educação, em todos os níveis, o meio ambiente também tem encontrado merecida importância e, no Ensino Superior, unidades curriculares específicas têm sido ministradas para esse fim. Neste contexto, o presente artigo apresenta dados de uma saída de campo, realizada com alunos de cursos de engenharias de uma universidade do município de Apucarana, estado do Paraná ao Parque Estadual do Guartelá, localizado no município de Tibagi (Paraná). O objetivo primário da atividade foi promover o contato dos alunos com uma Área de Preservação Ambiental (APA), conceito estudado na unidade curricular de Sistema de Gestão Ambiental. Para tanto, como pressupostos metodológicos, realizou-se uma sensibilização com os alunos que participaram da atividade no intuito de despertar o interesse pelo tema e criar expectativas para a realização da visita ao Parque. Este trabalho traz, em um primeiro momento, uma breve introdução sobre a importância de trilhas ecológicas para tratar de ensino sobre o meio ambiente. A seguir, aspectos geológicos, geomorfológicos e fitozoológicos do parque são apresentados para, enfim, trazer resultados da realização da trilha. O Parque Estadual do Guartelá possui várias atrações, especialmente, o Canyon Guartelá, esculpido pelo rio Iapó. Localizado no Segundo Planalto Paranaense, na Bacia Sedimentar do Paraná, é uma das APA’s mais procuradas do estado do Paraná para estudos de campo. Assim, a atividade desenvolvida permitiu, para muitos alunos, um primeiro contato com uma APA, além de uma relação de simbiose com a natureza, o que pode ser comprovado com os depoimentos dos estudantes que participaram desta atividade.

A Produção da Cidade de Maringá-PR (Brasil) como um Polo Terciário: Rompendo Fronteiras
Get PDFA geografia do comércio e do consumo é um tema relevante nos estudos desta ciência. Contudo, a pesar de sua importância, ainda demanda por pesquisas que demonstrem sua influência na produção espacial. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho apresenta a cidade de Maringá, localizada no estado do Paraná-Brasil, a qual se comporta como um polo do setor terciário, produzido por estratégias capitalistas e estatais, para fornecer bens e serviços para a população de sua área de influência. O presente estudo utilizou-se de referências bibliográficas e de dados de pesquisas realizadas para legitimar esta questão. Assim, denota-se que esta cidade se apresenta, desde sua gênese até a atualidade, com relativa importância regional, avançando sob constantes fronteiras e demonstrando dinamicidade no período mais contemporâneo, acompanhando as inovação e demandas da economia contemporânea, principalmente no que tange à produção de novos espaços de consumo

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
