This paper has three parts : Chapter One outlines several techniques devised by the author employed in designing educational materials using multimedia ; Chapter Two introduces one of these techniques used in designing a new video game called, "Where were these photographs taken?" This game was demonstrated by the author at the 2001 Convention of Japan Image Arts and Science Society held at Osaka Geijutsu University on June 3, 2001 ; Chapter Three explains some new information relating to the history of the Kasato Maru. The author has been studying this particular ship and its history for a number of years. Some interesting and significant coincidences occurred recently relating to this vessel. For example, on April 28, 2001, a statue commemorating the early twentieth century Japanese immigrants to Brazil was officially dedicated in Meriken Park in Kobe. Beside the statue, a painting of the Kasato Maru as she set sail from Kobe on April 28, 1908 was set up to help visitors understand the context of the dedication and the role of the ship in carrying immigrants to Brazil. Prior to this, there were few visual materials to help the artist in his depiction of the Kasato Maru, but the author was able to provide the artist with photographs of the ship and her construction plans, which were helpful to him in presenting an accurate portrayal of this historic ship. Also, it is important that the history of Japanese immigration to Brazil be understood today. This is because over 200, 000 descendants of these immigrants have returned to Japan to work and live ; it is necessary that they learn about this history and also that they learn the language and history of modern Japan. The Kasato Maru was used as a basis for the development of the educational software mentioned above. A prototype of the software was tested in demonstrations at the 2000 International Symposium on Japanese Language Teaching held last summer in Tokyo. Many Japanese language teachers from various countries and of differing nationalities field-tested this software at the symposium and the feedback from them was very positive, which encourages the author to further develop this as a basis for teaching materials software.9KJ0000424976

NIT: 51145270.N, "Analysis of Maintenance of Light Fire Extinguishers (APAR) on MT Ships. Tameda Maru Number 3 ". Thesis Nautical Study Program, Diploma IV Program, Semarang Shipping Science Polytechnic, Advisor I: Capt. H. AGUS SUBARDI, M.Mar and Advisor II: Drs. EDY WARSOPURNOMO, MM, M.Mar.E Fire extinguishers are very necessary to support the safety of a ship's operation, and must comply with the applicable provisions, this is in accordance with the objectives of the ISM CODE namely to ensure sea safety, prevent human accidents or lose lives and avoid environmental damage especially the maritime environment and property In the fact that so far the writer has met, the use of fire extinguishers on the boat is still not optimal. In this thesis the author finds, why there are obstacles in the treatment of light fire extinguishers (APAR) in MT. Tameda Maru Number 3, what efforts need to be made so that fire extinguishers are ready to be used and can function properly. The method carried out by the author in this study is a qualitative research study with an approach to the problem of analytical observation, where observations are made that occur during the operational activities of ships that are the object of research. So that there will be a solution that can be done to improve the ability of the crew to care for light fire extinguishers. By carrying out these efforts, it is expected to be able to increase the ability of the crew to maintain and use a lightweight fire extinguisher to the maximum. So that shipping activities, especially safety equipment can run smoothly and there will be no more accidents on the boat. Because if at any time an examination is conducted by an authorized official, then the equipment meets the requirements. This is to avoid new problems that can disrupt the smooth operation of the ship. At the end of the thesis the author presents conclusions and suggestions

    Get PDF
In 2005, small fishing boat “Shinsei-maru No.3” was discovered at the off Cape Nosappu under the capsized condition, without being rescued until that time. From this accident, seven crew were lost. According to the official report of the Marine Accident Inquiry Agency, the fishing boat was returning to her home port Hanasaki, and met the container ship that was cruising from North America to Pusan and Hong-Kong. The collision was caused as the followings. The fishing boat was under crossing condition in front of the container ship from the left side of the container ship, but did not alter the course. Meanwhile, the container ship did not sound the warning signal to the fishing boat. Then, the fishing boat collided at the port-side bow of the container ship, and then capsized. In this paper, the physical mechanism that caused the capsizing of the fishing boat is investigated based upon the experimental model tests and manoeuvring simulations. Also, the investigation about the ship handling of the container ship is done for the prevention of such capsizing
