Colonization in Central Brazil: the agricultural frontier in Mato Grosso from the 1950s to the 1970s
Full text linkThis article seeks to insert itself in the debate on the history of the expansion of the agricultural frontier in Central Brazil, proposing a dialogue with different temporalities and occupation models. However, the temporal and spatial cut-off of this study refers to the study of pioneer colonization processes in the state, with emphasis on two distinct regions, the north, and southwest of Mato Grosso, between the years 1950 and 1970. The research uses a documentary source produced during field research by German geographers such as Gerd Kohlhepp and Gottfried Pfeifer, and who are part of Kohlhepp\u27s private archive. The work seeks to dialogue with the theme of the border as part of the theoretical-methodological assumptions of environmental history and historical geography, describing the complex relationships between society and nature in the Brazilian Legal Amazon. The study also allows us to understand the national and foreign investments that helped to transform this region into one of the global areas of greatest agricultural productionEsse artigo procura se inserir no debate sobre a história da expansão da fronteira agrícola no Brasil Central, propondo um diálogo com diferentes temporalidades e modelos de ocupação. No entanto, o recorte temporal e espacial desse estudo refere-se ao estudo dos processos de colonização pioneira no estado, com ênfase em duas regiões distintas, que são o norte e o sudoeste de Mato Grosso, entre os anos de 1950 a 1970. A pesquisa utiliza uma fonte documental produzida durante pesquisa de campo de geógrafos alemães como Gerd Kohlhepp e Gottfried Pfeifer, e que são parte de arquivo particular de Kohlhepp. O trabalho procura dialogar com o tema da fronteira como parte dos pressupostos teórico-metodológicos da história ambiental e geografia histórica, descrevendo as complexas relações entre sociedade e natureza na Amazônia Legal brasileira. O estudo permite também compreender os investimentos nacionais e estrangeiros que auxiliaram na transformação dessa região em uma das áreas globais de maior produção agrícola

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
