The main objective and focus of this report and of this research project, is related to the authors teaching practise for the academic year 2017-2018 at the Academia de Música de Costa Cabral as well as the Academia de Música de Vilar do Paraíso. The above mentioned practise, led the author to the creation of a reflective document related to teaching methodologies as well as the experiences and learning processes resulted out of these practises. Related to the research project, the author of this work felt the necessity of a research in the teaching methods used by different teachers in the northern part of the country and currently being used in different levels of Viola study, creating a photography of this moment in time. Finally, and in the absence of a teachinmg approach through contemporary music, the author commisioned three didactic works to three Portuguese composers in order them to be used in classes, exploring in this way some new approaches to the teaching of Viola

María del Mar Añasco Mina, for the Master of Music degree in Performance, presented on April 10, 2025, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. TITLE: EXTENDED PROGRAMS NOTES FOR A VIOLA GRADUATE RECITAL MAJOR PROFESSOR: Dr. Rossana Cauti. This research paper is an expanded version of the program notes for the author’s viola graduate recital on December 8, 2024, at the Old Baptist Foundation in Carbondale, Illinois. The paper includes two works originally written for the instrument and two adapted. With Dr. Rossana Cauti’s help, the author chose four works to prepare a viola graduate recital, including works from different countries and eras that challenge the performer’s technique and interpretation. The research paper will include each composer’s background, historical context, and analysis of the Prelude, Sarabande, and Gigue of the Suite No.3 in C Major for Cello Solo BWV 1009, by Johann Sebastian Bach (transcribed for viola), the Viola Sonata in B-flat Major Op. 36, written by Henri Vieuxtemps, the Concerto for Viola Sz. 120, BB by Béla Bartók, and the Danza Nocturna composed by Francisco Gonzáles Giraldo

Mitogenomes from Two Uncommon Haplogroups Mark Late Glacial/Postglacial Expansions from the Near East and Neolithic Dispersals within Europe

The current human mitochondrial (mtDNA) phylogeny does not equally represent all human populations but is biased in favour of representatives originally from north and central Europe. This especially affects the phylogeny of some uncommon West Eurasian haplogroups, including I and W, whose southern European and Near Eastern components are very poorly represented, suggesting that extensive hidden phylogenetic substructure remains to be uncovered. This study expanded and re-analysed the available datasets of I and W complete mtDNA genomes, reaching a comprehensive 419 mitogenomes, and searched for precise correlations between the ages and geographical distributions of their numerous newly identified subclades with events of human dispersal which contributed to the genetic formation of modern Europeans. Our results showed that haplogroups I (within N1a1b) and W originated in the Near East during the Last Glacial Maximum or pre-warming period (the period of gradual warming between the end of the LGM, ~19 ky ago, and the beginning of the first main warming phase, ~15 ky ago) and, like the much more common haplogroups J and T, may have been involved in Late Glacial expansions starting from the Near East. Thus our data contribute to a better definition of the Late and postglacial re-peopling of Europe, providing further evidence for the scenario that major population expansions started after the Last Glacial Maximum but before Neolithic times, but also evidencing traces of diffusion events in several I and W subclades dating to the European Neolithic and restricted to Europe

Shakespeare 24/25: to the museum with the Bard

    No full text
The 2022 ICOM (International Council of Museums) reunion gave a new definition of the word “museum”. Based on this ground, what can be the function of a Shakespeare museum today? Shakespeare is the quintessence of the English author. It was not easy to “export” him and open a vast library and a museum devoted to him in the United States (the Folger Shakespeare Library) and it is still not easy to open a new Museum of Shakespeare in London (opening delayed to 2025). In this case, based also on recent political events (ex. Brexit), the museum becomes a means for claiming an identity that is intended to be preserved. This essay analyzes what the function of a Shakespearean museum can be today, starting with an overview of the “cultures of commemoration” and using the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington and the future Museum of Shakespeare in London as examples preceded by an historical introduction. Besides the theme, both institutions are united by the fact that they are undergoing restructuring –the former– or construction –the latter. After delving into these themes, the essay concludes with further reflection on the relationship between “cultures of commemoration” and the “museum” as an institution. Tenendo presente i recenti avvenimenti politici (es.

The gap between those international recommendations and the Brazilian penal execution, especially in Rio Grande do Sul, arouses certain repercussions on the present situation of Pres?dio Central de Porto Alegre, a prison that has motivated the representation against Brazil at OAS due to human rights violations. The text unfolds certain myths on Pres?dio Central de Porto Alegre, and the author reaches for an outside non institutional/institutionalized perspective coming from its visitors on the daily life in that institution.

This research investigates the subject's relationship with the knowledge in adolescence, from the theoretical contribution of psychoanalysis, especially the works of Freud and Lacan. Instigated by the clinical evidence that at this stage the issues related to knowledge appear so decisively, we intend to demonstrate how this element may be operative in this transition wether the manifest knowledge, transmissible, that covers the field of thought and information, or the non-knowledge in the face of sexuality, which erupts so pungently with the pubertal awakening. We start from the connection, established by Lacan (1962-1963), between the maturation of the object a in puberty and the access to the concepts formation. The logical articulation between an essential transformation within the thought scope and the emergence of an emptiness is associated by Lacan to the conceptual moment-limit. This formulation is the theoretical support of our research, which we tracked, along with the theme of the knowledge, in the work of this author. Our route follows two paths that intertwine: the analysis of the symptomatic construction of adolescence in the speeches and the circumvention of the real of puberty that reflects on the bodies. Adolescence is the symbolic treatment of the real that supervenes in puberty. As an operation of inextricable symbolic reinstatement of the social experience, it varies according to the different forms of sociability. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the transition to adulthood in different social systems, which we have accomplished through a historical research and an incursion in anthropology. We found that in great part of traditional societies there is not exactly adolescence, and the transition is operated by mechanisms prescribed by the culture, especially the rites of passage, that function as symbolic underpinnings. Modern and hypermodern societies don't count with this instrument. We turn, then, to the psychoanalytic perspective, since Freud's inaugural meeting with some teenage girls up to the challenges of contemporary adolescence before the spraying of the symbolic references, in order to understand the value of knowledge and conceptual thought as instruments that can be operative in this crossing. Finally, we propose an analysis of the conceptual moment-limit time as inflection point that can facilitate the opening of a singular, possible path for the tunnel of adolescence.
