Les études in Ising field theory and related problems
The main subject of this thesis is the Ising field theory, the field theory describing the scaling limit of the two-dimensional Ising model near its critical point. We study the Ising field theory in low- and high-temperature regimes.
In the low-temperature regime we address questions related to the mass spectrum of the bound states that exist in the theory. The overall goal is to study analytic properties of the masses taken as functions of the scaling variable in the theory. At this stage, we are primarily interested in the asymptotic series in the coupling parameter. We describe methods used for developing expansions in the coupling parameter when this parameter is sufficiently small. This gives rise to the low-energy and semiclassical series. Methods developed are then applied to a different model, a model that has many things in common with the Ising field theory, the two-dimensional quantum chromodynamics with infinite number of colors, also known as the ‘t Hooft model.
In the second part of the thesis we turn to the Ising field theory in the high- temperature regime. Here we study the problem of scattering in a weak magnetic field. We compute the leading perturbative correction to the scattering amplitude for the 2 -> 2 process. This is done first by means of standard methods based on the direct intermediate-state decomposition and dispersion relations. Then we compute the large energy asymptotic of the amplitude for this process directly using a known relation between the Ising field theory at zero magnetic field and classical sinh-Gordon equation. We obtain consistent results that show the logarithmic growth of the amplitude with energy at this order in magnetic field. Going beyond the leading order we argue that at large energies for a sufficiently weak magnetic field the amplitude exhibits a power-like decay.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical referencesIncludes vitaby Iskander Ziyatdino
The goatibex constellation of Fazil Iskander: translation and commentary
Fazil Iskander (1929- ) is one of the most representative remaining writers of the Thaw Generation. Due to the lack of recognition of this author in Brazil, the present dissertation consists in the translation of the short-novel that has made him internationally renowned, preceded by a presentation and commentary: Sozvezdie Kozlotura from 1966, or A constelação do Capriuro in Portuguese. Though the prose of Iskander belongs to the Russian satire tradition, along with names like Nikolai Gogol and Mikhail Bulgakov, it carries the singularities of his non-Russian origin. His motherland, Abkhazia, with its proper history and customs, besides reverberating on his works, entwines itself with the Russian-soviet culture in a complex and tense relationship that gives these narratives their unique nature. In this research, it is analyzed the characteristics that make the satire of Iskander so innovative
COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE STORIES "YESTERDAY" BY NURALI KABUL AND "THE POET" BY FAZIL ISKANDER
The article provides a comparative analysis of the stories of the Uzbek writer Nurali Kabul "Yesterday" and the Abkhaz author Fazil Iskander "The Poet". The research is aimed at identifying common and different artistic principles of the two writers, belonging to different national literatures, but united by a common humanistic worldview. moral choice and the role of the individual in the socio-cultural context. The author comes to the conclusion that the works of Kabul and Iskander demonstrate similarities in the desire to assert the value of spiritual freedom and moral purity of a person
The Lost Valley of Iskander
The belief that a lost Greek legacy could be discovered in remote regions of Central Asia has long been popular in Western culture. This paper delves into the adventure tale The Lost Valley of Iskander by American pulp fiction author Robert E. Howard (1906–1936). The story unfolds in Afghanistan during the peak of the Great Game, and involves a concealed valley where the descendants of Alexander’s army have endured across centuries with their ancient culture and ethnic purity intact.
I contextualize The Lost Valley of Iskander as an exemplary literary reflection of the European (and American) preoccupation with the presence of Alexander and the Greeks in Baktria and India, highlighting the racial stereotypes Howard employs to juxtapose the ancient Greeks to the surrounding ‘barbaric tribes’. At the heart of Howard’s story lies the conflation of Classical Greece and contemporary western Europe. On a broader scale, my paper addresses the impact this preoccupation had on modern scholarship (both colonialist and anticolonial historical narratives related to ‘Hellenistic’ Baktria and India). I contend that in the depiction of the Greco -Baktrian kingdoms as European or ‘Western’, scholarship, travel writing, and adventure fiction mutually informed one another
The concept of life in the late work of F.A. Iskander
The purpose of this article is to explore the concept of “life” as understood by F.A. Iskander and to explain the genre specificity of his later works through a content analysis of metaphorical structures in the collections of essays, notes, and short stories by the writer. If his earlier works are mostly collections of short stories and novel-in-short stories, then later in his career he turns to such genres as collections of essays and notes. The focus of this study will be on the collections “A little about a lot” and “From notebooks”, the essays “Stalin and Vuchetich”, “State and conscience”, “Poets and kings”, “Mozart and Salieri”, and “Reflections of a writer”, as well as the short story “The plot of existence”. Life is not contrasted with death, and Iskander does not insist on the triumph of the positive over the negative in his work. Through this research, the author will draw the following conclusions. In his later work, Iskander departs from the conceptual metaphor of “life as wholeness”. He argues that only the depiction of life through art or theory can be considered complete, while life itself is inherently fragmented. He believes that only ideas founded on humanistic principles can bring some harmony to the chaotic nature of life. The main feature of Iskander’s later writings is fragmentation, which is based on associative thinking
Škol’nyj val’s di Fazil’ Iskander, ovvero un’enciclopedia della vergogna
This paper is dedicated to the povest’ Škol’nyj val’s, ili ėnergija styda by Fazil’ Iskander. The author always used Russian language for his poetic and narrative works, but he remained firmly attached to his birthplace Abkhazia, where he set some cycles related to his childhood, to the places and traditions of his native land. The cycle presents an interesting and varied set of episodes linked to the feeling of shame, which is analyzed and presented in its various features through the cases that occurred to the little protagonist. He, now an adult, remembers firsthand the discovery of this emotion and his first attempts to understand and dominate it in a rational way. Here we can also find some indirect comments on Stalin’s totalitarianism, which heavily affected the author’s family life.
Fazil Iskander (1929-2016) is one of the most representative soviet writers remaining from the thaw generation. Heterodyne Spectroradiometer for Precise Measurements of Carbon Dioxide
Recent developments around instrumental control of carbon balance are aimed at accurate evaluation of sources and sinks of major greenhouse gases (GHG) by natural landscapes, cities, industrial and agricultural objects. And we see a significant progress in the development of instruments based on commercial telecom components to make global GHG measurements accessible [1].
Here we present the Multichannel Laser Heterodyne Spectroradiometer (MLHS) for exploring the Earth's atmosphere in the near-infrared range, addressing the lack of coverage for greenhouse gases in existing measurement networks. High spectral resolution of solar occultation heterodyne spectroscopy enables us to study the structure and dynamics of the atmosphere while maintaining a compact and low-cost design.
Following the 2022 measurement campaign with a Fourier-spectrometer station for CO2 and CH4, we identified key limitations of the prototype. By improving thermal stability, optimizing optical scheme, and applying accurate sensors for atmospheric parameters, we are presenting the next generation of MLHS.

Exploring the adoption of the dataBox in the University: Interaction design for the data subject's perspective
The recently introduced General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) allows universities to use WiFi Access data for their research activities. The richness, ubiquity, and scalability of WiFi tracking make it an extremely relevant resource for studying the behavior and mobility patterns of groups and social systems. However, it is also a sensitive attribute and can pose serious privacy harms to data subjects, who often are unaware of the collection of this data and its usage. There are some voices in the academia asking for a more ethical approach when processing opportunistic sensor data, one that uses the consent of the data subject as a necessary foundation for enabling the analysis of personal information. In this regard, there are some alternatives proposed in the literature from which the dataBox stands out. This concept, developed by Mortier and colleagues for the smart-household, is repurposed in the Thesis to the context of scientific research. The dataBox can become the data subject’s portal for the future research data platform from TU Delft, currently being developed by several researchers from the University. This interface enables data subjects to support data-driven research by giving their informed consent to the researcher’s data requests. The thesis addresses the question of how to design the user experience of such dataBox transparently and trustworthily, equipping the University population with the control and knowledge needed to share their data in the degree they feel comfortable with. The research conducted demonstrates the adequacy of the dataBox concept to satisfy the data subject’s concerns and expectations about the data collections conducted by researchers from the University. Furthermore, it stresses the need for an onboarding phase previous to the negotiation and follow-up phases proposed by Mortier. The onboarding has been demonstrated necessary to enable data subject’s informed consent when facing participation requests since without it are likely to misinterpret the risks entangled. The UX design of such an onboarding phase is detailed through a list of guidelines, which have been validated over three dimensions: Perceived control, trustworthiness, and transparency. The research also brings clarity over the different perspectives towards sharing data in the University, which differs from the more general classification found in the literature about consumer data privacy. Three novel categories are formulated, based on the results of a Research Through Design process. These categorizations extend the literature about privacy perception in the context of scientific research. This knowledge feeds the design of the proposed UX and is useful to segment the analysis of future features. Additional work is required to detail the UX of the negotiation and follow-up phases since the guidelines presented focus on the onboarding phase.Design for Interactio
