Episodically Active Asteroid 6478 Gault
We present imaging and spectroscopic observations of 6478 Gault, a similar to 6 km diameter inner main-belt asteroid currently exhibiting strong, comet-like characteristics. Three distinct tails indicate that ultra-slow dust (ejection speed 0.15 +/- 0.05 m s(-1)) was emitted from Gault in separate episodes beginning UT 2018 October 28 +/- 5 (Tail A), UT 2018 December 31 +/- 5 (Tail B), and UT 2019 February 10 +/- 7 (Tail C), with durations of Delta T similar to 10-20 days. With a mean particle radius (a) over bar similar to 200 mu m, the estimated masses of the tails are M-A;similar to 4 x 10(7) kg, M-B similar to 6 x 10(6) kg, and M-C similar to 6 x 10(5) kg, respectively, and the mass-loss rates from the nucleus are 20-40 kg s(-1) for Tail A, 4-6 kg s(-1) for Tail B, and -0.4 kg s(-1) for Tail C. In its optical colors Gault is more similar to C-type asteroids than to S-types, even though the latter are numerically dominant in the inner asteroid belt. A spectroscopic upper limit to the production of gas is set at 1 kg s(-1). Discrete emission in three protracted episodes effectively rules out an impact origin for the observed activity. Sublimation driven activity is unlikely given the inner-belt orbit and the absence of detectable gas. In any case, sublimation would not easily account for the observed multiple ejections. The closest similarity is between Gault and active asteroid 311P/(2013 P5), an object showing repeated but aperiodic ejections of dust over a 9 month period. While Gault is 10 times larger than 311P/(2013 P5), and the relevant timescale for spin-up by radiation torques is similar to 100 times longer, its properties are likewise most consistent with episodic emission from a body rotating near breakup

Rowan County - Gault House
The Gault House is sometimes called the Carey House, after the owner Judge James Carey. On April 1, 1885, Martin supporters in the Martin-Tolliver feud locked themselves in the house while the Toliver side were at the Cottage Hotel or Anderson\u27s store. After the battle, the Martins abandoned the Gault House and the Tollivers took control of the town.

Assessment of GFR by four methods in adults in Ashanti, Ghana : the need for an eGFR equation for lean African populations
Background. Equations for estimating glomerular filtration rate (GFR) have not been validated in Sub-Saharan African populations, and data on GFR are few.
Methods. GFR by creatinine clearance (Ccr) using 24-hour urine collections and estimated GFR (eGFR) using the four-variable Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD-4)[creatinine calibrated to isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS) standard], Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) and Cockcroft–Gault equations were obtained in Ghanaians aged 40–75. The population comprised 1013 inhabitants in 12 villages; 944 provided a serum creatinine and two 24-hour urines. The mean weight was 54.4 kg; mean body mass index was 21.1 kg/m2.
Results. Mean GFR by Ccr was 84.1 ml/min/1.73m2; 86.8% of participants had a GFR of 60 ml/min/1.73m2. Mean MDRD-4 eGFR was 102.3 ml/min/1.73m2 (difference vs. Ccr, 18.2: 95% CI: 16.8–19.5); when the factor for black race was omitted, the value (mean 84.6 ml/min/1.73m2) was close to Ccr. Mean CKD-EPI eGFR was 103.1 ml/min/1.73m2, and 89.4 ml/min/1.73m2 when the factor for race was omitted. The Cockcroft–Gault equation underestimated GFR compared with Ccr by 9.4 ml/min/1.73m2 (CI: 8.3–10.6); particularly in older age groups. GFR by Ccr, and eGFR by MDRD-4, CKD-EPI and Cockcroft–Gault showed falls with age: MDRD-4 5.5, Ccr 7.7, CKD-EPI 8.8 and Cockcroft–Gault 11.0 ml/min/1.73m2/10 years. The percentage of individuals identified with CKD stages 3–5 depended on the method used: MDRD-4 1.6% (7.2 % without factor for black race; CKD-EPI 1.7% (4.7% without factor for black race), Ccr 13.2% and Cockcroft–Gault 21.0%.
Conclusions. Mean eGFR by both MDRD-4 and CKD-EPI was considerably higher than GFR by Ccr and Cockcroft–Gault, a difference that may be attributable to leanness. MDRD-4 appeared to underestimate the fall in GFR with age compared with the three other measurements; the fall with CKD-EPI without the adjustment for race was the closest to that of Ccr. An equation tailored specifically to the needs of the lean populations of Africa is urgently needed. For the present, the CKD-EPI equation without the adjustment for black race appears to be the most useful
New active asteroid (6478) Gault
Main-belt asteroid (6478) Gault was observed to show cometary features in early 2019. To investigate the cause, we conducted BVR observations at Xingming Observatory, China, from 2019 January to April. The two tails were formed around 2018 October 26–November 8, and 2018 December 29–2019 January 8, respectively, and consisted of dust grains of ≳20 μm to 3 mm in radius ejected at a speed of 0.15 ± 0.05 m s−1 and following a broken power-law size distribution bending at grain radius ∼70 μm (bulk density 1 g cm−3 assumed). The total mass of dust within a 104 km-radius aperture around Gault declined from ∼9 × 106 kg since 2019 January at a rate of 2.28 ± 0.07 kg s−1, but temporarily surged around 2019 March 25, because Earth then crossed the orbital plane of Gault, near which the ejected dust was mainly distributed. No statistically significant colour or short-term light-curve variation was seen. Nonetheless we argue that Gault is currently subjected to rotational instability. Using the available astrometry, we did not detect any non-gravitational acceleration in the orbital motion of Gault

NEUTRON INELASTIC SCATTERING FROM SOLID HCl
K. Shimaoka, et al., J. Phys. Soc. Japan 27, 1078 (1969). S. F. Trevino, Applied Spectroscopy 22, 659 (1968). Gault, Trevino and Prask were guests at AMMRC, Watertown, Mass. 02172. Gault was an NRC-FRL Postdoctoral Research Associate.""Author Institution: Explosives Laboratory, Feltman Research LaboratoriesHigh resolution neutron inelastic scattering spectra in the region below have been obtained from solid HCl at temperatures corresponding to the low temperature ferroelectric phase, the high temperature disordered phase and the recently (120--98.4) intermediate phase. These data were obtained utilizing a time-of-flight spectrometer with a crystal monochromator. The resolution of this instrument is sufficient to enable previously unresolved structure to be observed. The low temperature phase data are compared to cross-sections calculated by using a full lattice dynamical and good agreement is obtained
