The effect of learning English based on local content and content based materials by using CALL on the eleventh grade students’ writing skill of report text at SMA N 1 Katingan Tengah
Get PDFThis research aimed at measuring whether learning English based on local content and content based materials by using CALL has different effect on the eleventh grade students’ writing skill of report text at SMA N 1 Katingan Tengah or not, Quasi experimental design was applied in the present research. The population of the research consisted of 124 students. Researcher took 45 students purposively as the sample of the research which consisted of two groups. The first experiment group consisted of 22 students which was taught by learning English based on local content by using CALL and the second experiment group consisted of 23 students who was taught by learning English based on content materials by using CALL. The result showed that the group who was taught English based on local content using CALL had different effect with the group who was taught English based on content based materials by using CALL on students’ writing skill of report text (t sign. two-tailed 0.00 ≤ 0.05). Then according to mean score, Learning English Based on Local Content by Using CALL was (77.25) higher (≥) than the mean score of Content Based Materials Learning by Using CALL (65.61). In conclusion, learning English Based on Local Content by Using CALL has better effect on the eleventh grade students’ writing skill of report text at SMAN 1 Katingan Tengah than learning English Based on Content Based Materials by Using CALL
Improving Students' English Skills Using Bilingual Word Wall Media at SMPN Satap 3 Hanau, Paring Raya Village
Get PDFThis research aimed at improving students' English skills using bilingual word walls media at SMPN Satap 3 Hanau, Paring Raya village. This present research is an alternative to improve the English language skills of students who have minimum internet access and inadequate facilities and infrastructure. To meet the research objective, classroom action research was used as the research method. The research data were obtained through observation, field notes, and data from the students' vocabulary mastery test results. This research was carried out through several stages, namely: (1) planning the actions to be taken, namely preparing the model and approach to be taken; (2) using Word wall media in learning; (3) Observing the results of the action; (4) examining, seeing and considering the results or impacts of actions from various criteria. The results showed that in the first cycle there was an improvement of students' vocabulary mastery by 23.3% and in the second cycle had an improvement of vocabulary mastery by 33.6%. In conclusion, Word wall media helped students remember vocabulary while the Vocabularies Handbook pocketbook makes it easy to search for vocabulary according to the material in a shorter time than searching in a dictionary
IMPROVING STUDENTS’ WRITING SKILLS THROUGH MIND MAPPING TECHNIQUE INTEGRATED WITH PICTURE SERIES
Get PDFThe present research aimed at finding out how mind mapping using picture series improved students’ writing skills and how it can encourage students’ interest in teaching and learning process. To reach the aims of the research, the present research used a classroom action research.There were 17 participants in the research which consisted of 8 females and 9 males of Bussiness Management Study Program Students at Darwan Ali University Unit II. The present research was conducted in two cycles. Cycle I had three meetings and the second II had two meetings. In this classroom action research, the researcher conducted the plan, action, observation, and reflection.The results of the finding showed that (1) The application of mind mapping using picture series can improve students’ skill based on the calculation of the percentage, the students who achieved score 65 and more were 100 %. It was higher than 80%; (b) Mind mapping using picture series made the students interested to learn English writing. Before the actions were conducted, the students were less motivated in the teaching and learning process. After the implementation of the actions, they were more enthusiastic to get involved in the teaching and learning process. They became active and paid attention during the lesson. Besides, the students were autonomous in learning without depending on their friend’s works in doing the tasks

The design of this research is Research and Development. The subjects were 34 students of the third semester of business management program at Darwan Ali Uversity Sampit. The researcher adopted ADDIE Model. ADDIE is acronym of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. This research used worksheet and questionnaire as the instruments of the research. The data were used to develop and evaluate the forth units of English speaking materials. It was found that the English speaking materials in this research are appropriate and effective for the third semester management students at Darwan Ali University Sampit. The findings and the process of the study can be used in teaching learning activity
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
