    Three-Dimensional System-in-Package Using Stacked Silicon Platform Technology

    In this paper, a novel method of fabricating three– dimensional (3-D) system-in-package (SiP) using a silicon carrier that can integrate known good dice with an integrated cooling solution is presented. The backbone of this stacked module is the fabrication of a silicon carrier with through-hole conductive interconnects. The design, process, and assembly to fabricate silicon through-hole interconnect using a wet silicon etching method is discussed in this paper. The process optimization to fabricate silicon carriers with solder through-hole interconnect within the design tolerance has been achieved. The design and modeling methodology to optimize the package in terms of electrical aspects of the stacked module is carried out to achieve less interconnect parasitics. An integrated cooling solution for 3-D stacked modules using single-phase and two-phase cooling solutions is also demonstrated for high-power applications. Known good thin flip-chip devices with daisy chain are fabricated and attached to the silicon carrier by flip-chip processes making it a known good carrier after electrical testing.     At the end of South-West monsoon along Mumbai coast a swarm of the box jelly fish, Chiropsoides buitendijki was observed during Ganesh idol immersion at Girgaum-Chowpathy beach, Mumbai on 10th September, 2013. The occurrence of such large number of jelly fishes coincided with Ganesh idol immersion, perhaps for the first time in Mumbai waters. Several devotees of Ganesh who congregated at Girgaum-Chowpathy beach for immersion ritual of Ganesh idol were stung by the jelly fish. According to the news paper reports, the devotees moved with the idol in ankledeep water for immersion and immediately thin tentacle-like threads pierced legs and ankles causing severe burning sensation

    MeSH term explosion and author rank improve expert recommendations

    Information overload is an often-cited phenomenon that reduces the productivity, efficiency and efficacy of scientists. One challenge for scientists is to find appropriate collaborators in their research. The literature describes various solutions to the problem of expertise location, but most current approaches do not appear to be very suitable for expert recommendations in biomedical research. In this study, we present the development and initial evaluation of a vector space model-based algorithm to calculate researcher similarity using four inputs: 1) MeSH terms of publications; 2) MeSH terms and author rank; 3) exploded MeSH terms; and 4) exploded MeSH terms and author rank. We developed and evaluated the algorithm using a data set of 17,525 authors and their 22,542 papers. On average, our algorithms correctly predicted 2.5 of the top 5/10 coauthors of individual scientists. Exploded MeSH and author rank outperformed all other algorithms in accuracy, followed closely by MeSH and author rank. Our results show that the accuracy of MeSH term-based matching can be enhanced with other metadata such as author rank

    Cryptographic reverse firewalls for interactive proof systems

    We study interactive proof systems (IPSes) in a strong adversarial setting where the machines of honest parties might be corrupted and under control of the adversary. Our aim is to answer the following, seemingly paradoxical, questions: Can Peggy convince Vic of the veracity of an NP statement, without leaking any information about the witness even in case Vic is malicious and Peggy does not trust her computer? Can we avoid that Peggy fools Vic into accepting false statements, even if Peggy is malicious and Vic does not trust her computer? At EUROCRYPT 2015, Mironov and Stephens-Davidowitz introduced cryptographic reverse firewalls (RFs) as an attractive approach to tackling such questions. Intuitively, a RF for Peggy/Vic is an external party that sits between Peggy/Vic and the outside world and whose scope is to sanitize Peggy's/Vic's incoming and outgoing messages in the face of subversion of her/his computer, e.g. in order to destroy subliminal channels. In this paper, we put forward several natural security properties for RFs in the concrete setting of IPSes. As our main contribution, we construct efficient RFs for different IPSes derived from a large class of Sigma protocols that we call malleable. A nice feature of our design is that it is completely transparent, in the sense that our RFs can be directly applied to already deployed IPSes, without the need to re-implement them

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    A retrospective cohort study comparing a novel, spherical, resorbable particle against five established embolic agents for uterine fibroid embolisation

    AIM: To evaluate the effectiveness of a novel, resorbable, spherical embolic agent compared with other established agents, by studying percentage fibroid infarction (the best indicator of long-term symptom improvement) in patients undergoing uterine fibroid embolisation (UFE). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective cohort study examined six different embolic agents used for fibroid embolisation, including a new gelatin-based, fully resorbable, spherical agent. The primary effectiveness outcomes were magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-determined dominant fibroid infarct percentage (DF%) and all fibroid percentage infarct (AF%) at 3 months post-embolisation. MRI-determined uterine artery patency rate was the secondary outcome. Chi-squared test (χ 2), relative risk (RR) calculation (primary outcomes), and analysis of variance (ANOVA) (secondary outcome) were the statistical tests employed. RESULTS: One hundred and twenty patients were treated with six embolic agents (20 consecutive patients per group, overall mean age 44.8±6.4, initial uterine volume 570±472 ml, dominant fibroid volume 249±324 ml). Fibroid infarctrates were similar between the cohorts with no significant difference between the new gelatin-based resorbable particle and other embolics in either DF% (χ 2=3.92, p=0.56) or AF% (χ 2=2.83, p=0.73). Complete DF% RR=1.07 (0.90–1.27) and AF% RR=1.09 (0.85–1.41) suggest non-inferiority of the resorbable particle (d=0.67, p&lt;0.05). A favourable uterine artery patency rate was demonstrated for the resorbable particle compared with gelatin slurry (82.5% versus 27.5%, p&lt;0.001 after Bonferroni adjustment). CONCLUSIONS: This new gelatin-based, fully resorbable particle is an effective embolic agent for fibroid embolisation and achieves an infarct rate non-inferior to established embolics. </p

    Both spending and tax policies have been implemented in the United States with the goal of stimulating private sector research and development (R&D). Karier questions whether current R&D policy, especially the research and experimentation tax credit, can contribute to closing the gap between nondefense expenditures on R&D in the United States and such expenditures in other countries, such as Japan and Germany. He also explores possible changes to our current R&D policy to make it more effective.
