Crystal Field Efects On The Electron Spin Resonance Of Rare-earths In Ypd3: Comparison With Inelastic Neutrons Scattering Experiments
We report low temperature Electron Spin Resonance experiments on diluted Er, Dy and Yb in YPd3. The host cubic crystal field leaves a Γ6 ground state for Er3+, and a Γ7 excited state could be observed at 18 ± 4K for this system. A lower lying Γ7 was measured for Yb3+ in YPd3, and a broad undefined resonance for Dy3+ in this host. A comparison of our data with those obtained by Inelastic Neutrons Scattering is given. © 1981.391010251030Holland-Moritz, Wohlleben, Scheuev, Loewenhaupt, (1979) M.M.M., 14, p. 234Walter, (1980) Diplomarbeit, , Universitat Koln, W. Investigation Of The First-order Metamagnetic Transitions And The Colossal Magnetocaloric Effect Using A Landau Expansion Applied To Mnas Compound
We have explored a simple Landau model to calculate magnetization isotherms considering magnetic hysteresis. The model parameters have been chosen to fit the magnetic and magnetocaloric data of MnAs compound. Experimental data show that there is a great difference between the isothermal variation of the entropy (S T) obtained from isotherms measured increasing and decreasing magnetic field. This great difference is reproduced theoretically. From the experimental and phenomenological isotherms, we calculated the S T. From the theoretical entropy, we also obtained S T, which does not present the colossal peak. © 2009 EDP Sciences, SIF, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.6816772Pecharsky, V.K., Gschneidner Jr., K.A., (1999) J. The Magnetic And Magnetocaloric Properties Of Gd 5ge 2si 2 Compound Under Hydrostatic Pressure
The Gd5 Ge2 Si2 compound presents a giant magnetocaloric effect with transition temperature at around 276 K and is a very good candidate for application as an active regenerator material in room temperature magnetic refrigerators. Recently it has been shown that pressure induces a colossal magnetocaloric effect in MnAs, a material that presents a giant magnetocaloric effect and a strong magnetoelastic coupling, as also happens with the Gd5 Ge2 Si2 compound. This motivated a search of the colossal effect in the Gd5 Ge2 Si2 compound. This work reports our measurements on the magnetic properties and the magnetocaloric effect of Gd5 Ge2 Si2 under hydrostatic pressures up to 9.2 kbar and as a function of temperature. Contrary to what happens with MnAs, pressure increases the Curie temperature of the compound, does not affect the saturation magnetization and decreases markedly its magnetocaloric effect. © 2005 American Institute of Physics.9710Pecharsky, V.K., Gschneidner Jr., K.A., (1977) Phys. Anisotropic Magnetocaloric Effect In Gadolinium Thin Films: Magnetization Measurements And Acoustic Detection
In this letter, it is demonstrated the ability of the magnetoacoustic technique in detecting the magnetocaloric effect in gadolinium thin films (1.0 μm and 3.0 μm thick), which is not accessible through conventional temperature sensors because of the reduced mass of the samples. The method, which detects the direct effect of the sample temperature variation, proved to be sensitive to the anisotropy of the films, making possible for the investigation of the anisotropic magnetocaloric effect. Magnetization measurements were also carried out, and from these measurements both the adiabatic temperature and the isothermal entropy variations were calculated. The acoustically detected magnetocaloric effect shows very good agreement with these calculations. © 2013 AIP Publishing LLC.11416Pecharsky, V.K., Gschneidner, Jr.K.A., (1999) J. Magn. Magn. We present measurements of the temperature coefficient of optical path change, ds/dT, thermal diffusivity, D, and conductivity, K, using time-resolved mode-mismatched thermal lens method for fluoride (mol%) 53ZrF 4-4.5LaF 3-3.5AlF 3-29BaF 2-10NaF (ZBLAN), fluoroaluminate 20YF 3-40AlF 3-20CaF 2-20BaF 2 (YABC) and fluoroindates 20GaF 3-15InF 3-20CaF 2-15ZnF 2-30PbF 2 (PGIZCa), 6GaF 3-34InF 3-20SrF 2-16BaF 2-20ZnF 2-4NaF (ISZn), 2GdF 3-40InF 3-20SrF 2-16BaF 2-20ZnF 2-2%NaF (InSBZnGdN). All the samples were crystal free, as verified by X-ray diffraction (XRD), and were at least 3 mm thick. The ds/dT of our samples was negative, the thermal diffusivity, D, was found to vary between 2.5 and 3.3×10 -3 cm 2/s, and the thermal conductivity, K, varied between 7.4 and 10.3×10 -3 W/K cm.256337342Hirao, K., Todopoki, S., Soga, N., (1992) J. The Influence Of Spontaneous And Field-induced Spin Reorientation Transitions On The Magnetocaloric Properties Of Hozn And Erzn
We report a theoretical investigation on the magnetocaloric properties of the cubic CsCl-type HoZn and ErZn compounds. Several anomalies in the magnetocaloric quantities, ΔS T and ΔT S, are observed due to spontaneous and/or field-induced spin reorientation transitions in these compounds. In HoZn, a discontinuity in the isothermal entropy change and in the adiabatic temperature change around T 1 23 K is ascribed to the spontaneous reorientation transition. Under a magnetic field variation from 0 up to 2 T in the 110 and 100 directions, an almost table-like behavior in S T is predicted between T 1 and T SR1. The peak around the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic transition temperature in the magnetocaloric quantities shows a dependence on the direction of the applied field. For μ 0ΔH = 2 T, it reaches 11.9 J/kgK (magnetic field along the 111 direction) and 7.9 J/kg K (magnetic field in the 100 direction). In ErZn there is also a dependence of ΔS T and ΔT S on field direction. From the analysis of the spin reorientations in both compounds we have built spin reorientation diagrams that summarize their temperature and field dependence. Our theoretical approach is based on a model Hamiltonian that includes exchange, crystal field, and quadrupolar interactions. © 2011 American Institute of Physics.1096Pecharsky, V.K., Gschneidner Jr., K.A., (1997) Phys. Structure And Properties Of Water Free Nd2o3 Doped Low Silica Calcium Aluminate Glasses
In this work, Nd2O3 doped low silica calcium aluminate glasses have been melted under vacuum conditions. Measurements of thermal diffusivity, density, optical absorption coefficient, glass transformation temperature (Tg), crystallisation temperature (Tx), dilatometric softening temperature (Td) and Vickers microhardness have been carried out. The results provided information about the sample's structure and showed that for Nd2O3 concentration up to 5 wt% there was no devitrification of the samples. The decrease in hardness and thermal diffusivity was about 8%, while the density increased about 8% with the increasing concentration of Nd2O3. The thermomechanical properties combined with their quantum efficiency indicate that this material is a candidate for an active medium for solid-state lasers.247196202Florence, J.M., Glaze, F.W., Black, M.H., (1955) J. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
