Product Development and Market Expansion: A Real Options Model
No full textWe create a model that values complementary and substitute products with potentially correlated revenues, which must be developed sequentially. The model also incorporates the effects of changing market conditions. We find that the value of a combined project increases in correlation, but the probability of investing in the initial product is a decreasing function of correlation. These results are reversed if the products are substitutes. Regardless of the correlation level, higher levels of substitutability reduce the value of the combined projects and increase the probability of investing. Despite greater uncertainty during the phase of limited competition, the firm is more likely to invest early than to postpone investment. No full textThe medical intervention concerning protection and care of both physical and mental health begins with the meeting between the clinician and the patient and with the observation of the personal conditions of the individual with the problem, or put forward himself/herself as a problem. After having shortly outlined the theoretical and methodological evolution of the strictly connected concepts of “illness” and “semeiotica”, from the protohistoric age to nowadays, focus is placed on the reasons triggering the need of a greater epistemological awareness in the use of the semeiotics by the specialist. The usefulness of replacing a “semeiotic of deviation” with a “semeiotic of differences” is also explained, which entails a process of comparison between the semeiotic of the doctor and the patient’s one

Some psychoanalytic authors identify a possible common ground in countertransference. This paper presents a descriptive and historical review of the development of the concept of countertransference, focusing on a well defined trend, starting with the original contribution by Freud up to those analysts of the British object relations school who gave – and continue to give – a fundamental contribution in expanding the discussion, necessary for scientific development, on the theoretical and clinical aspects of countertransference

No full textAuthors would like to draw attention to the dreaming of children affected by serious physical illness, and the consequences that the listening skills of the caregivers (parents, nurses, doctors, teachers etc.) may have. How will an adult, too intensely distressed over the death of a child, be able to approach a child who has a fear of death and be able to offer a space in which to listen and share? Adults can connect with children, their dreams, as well as their drawings and plays, only if they have been able to perceive, tolerate and contain their own emotions, including their personal sufferings, but they must also be able to reconcile the realm of reality with that of their own creativity. This is because the identity of one (the suffering child) can only exist in a more integrated way if in the presence of another person: if I cannot speak to you of my pains and of my fears of dying, I will not exist for you as a living and suffering child

No full textIn the literary production of Alberto Cantoni, short story writer and novelist between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the novel L'Illustrissimo is highly important both because it is the last publication of the author, from Pomponesco, a small town a few kilometers south of Mantua, both because it summarizes in a single text the different nuances and different directions that his writing has taken over the course of his literary career, also due to a writing and processing time that embraces the entire span of years of his career itself. In the foreground, in addition to the numerous and brilliant characters, one of the protagonists is the Mantuan landscape which, not a simple background, becomes a true literary parameter which in different and significant ways affects the purposes and mechanisms of the novel
