American frontier : experiments in the desert

    No full text
American Frontier: Experiments in the Desert is a book by Luca Guido and Emanuele Piccardo. It aims to demonstrate how architecture, photography, painting, films, and art have, at different times, identified the frontier as a field of action to chart new lines of inquiry. American desert spaces emerge as privileged sites for ever-new and more extreme experimentations, precisely because the absence of rules fosters a formal eclecticism free from laws and constraints, except for the relationship with the site and the natural context. This approach was embraced by land artists such as Michael Heizer, James Turrell, Charles Ross, Robert Smithson, Nancy Holt, and Dennis Oppenheim, as well as architects like Frank Lloyd Wright, Paolo Soleri, John Lautner, Bart Prince, Donald Wexler, and Albert Frey, and photographers including Carleton Watkins, Timothy O. Sullivan, William H. Jackson, Richard Misrach, Lee Friedlander, and Francesco Jodice

    Giuseppe Verdi, «Otello»

    No full text

CORPORATE FINANCE. Principles and practice in Europe

    No full text
This textbook builds on the excellent Corporate Finance 7/e by Denzil Watson and Antony Head. The Itaian co-authors- Emanuele Rossi (Bicocca University, Milan) and Guido Max Mantovani (University Ca' Foscari, Venice, and H.E.R.M.E.S., Strasbourg) - bring insights from their experience with the Higher Education and Research in Management of European Universities (H.E.R.M.E.S.) project. Corporate Finance - Principles and Practice in Europe is ideal for basic/introductory courses as well as intermediate courses in corporate finance in Europe. The text offers professors and students the best of two worlds. First, it provides a unique European perspective while remaining grounded in sound theory and practice. Second, it extends basic concepts into the domain of practical application in a way that improves students' understanding of managerial strategy facilitating a smooth transition from the classroom to the real world. It is not an easy task to address financial issues from the perspective of European institutions and market structures while simultaneously building on the foundations of financial theory and empirical results that have evolved from scholarly research

The article, in general, refers to the complexity of the integration of the South in the Kingdom of Italy and the importance to this end of the passage in the Abruzzo region of Victor Emmanuel II of Savoy to the guide of the army, to meet in Garibaldi. The originality of the essay is to shed light on the importance, so far underestimated, of the role played by Salvatore Tommasi in order to obtain the consent of the inhabitants of Abruzzo in the transition of Vittorio Emanuele. A condition set by Vittorio Emanuele to enter the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and symbolically demonstrated by his personal participation in the plebiscite in town of Castel di Sangro

A Note on Algebraic Hypercube Colorings

    No full text
An L(1, 1)-coloring of the n-dimensional hypercube Qn assigns nodes of Qn which are at distance ≤ 2 with different colors. Such colorings find application, e.g., in frequency assignment in wireless networks and data distribution in parallel memory systems. Let Χ 2̄(Qn) be the minimum number of colors used in any L(1, 1)-coloring. Finding the exact value of Χ2̄(Q n) is still an. open problem, and only 2-approximate solutions are currently known. In this paper we expose some connections between group theory and the L(1, 1)-coloring problem. Namely, we unfold the algebraic structure on which the best available L(1, 1)-coloring algorithms of Qn are based, thus giving a group theoretic flavour to existing L(1, 1)-colorings. We show that identifying groups such that the inverse of each element is the element itself yields a simple and efficient way to obtain L(1, 1)-colorings of the hypercube. We also prove that such colorings are balanced and that every coloring algorithm based on this algebraic structure cannot improve the current upper bound on Χ2̄(Qn), independently of the choice of the group operation. © 2008 IEEE
