Gianvincenzo Gravina e il tema della virtù
This article takes into consideration virtue, a crucial point in Gianvincenzo Gravina’s thought; in fact, it is no accident that this theme is dealt with by the most meaningful works written by the Calabrian author. According to Gravina, virtue not only does it regard religious themes, which would be natural, but also matters that at first could seem to be distant from his field of action, such as for example, poetry and literature. In conformity with the concept of verisimilitude, Gravina emphasizes the fact that a good poet is not expected to represent virtue based on an abstract ideal of perfection, but virtue in keeping with reality. An example of such a view is in the work the Tragedie cinque written by Gravina, in which characters from the Greek and Roman world represent on the stage the four cardinal virtues. By pointing out this theme, this article aims, inevitably, at some meaningful comparisons, like the one between Gravina and Montesquieu, and, above all, the one between Gravina and Vico who, relatively to this subject, can be taken as emblematic authors of the Southern Italian culture of the first Eighteenth Century.
The rising trend of the automation of production processes is feeding numerous concerns about the possibility that, in a not-so-distant future, a significant share of traditional jobs will be completely replaced by robots or Artificial Intelligence, thereby exacerbating inequalities. In this respect, the existing empirical literature failed to provide definitive and exhaustive answers on the impact of robotization on a variety of labor market indicators. The present contribution fits the ongoing debate by investigating the dynamics of robotization and wage disparities, both at the level of OECD economies and with a special focus on the Italian industries, over the period 1995-2007. Relying upon a specific measure of robotic capital intensity, the empirical analysis shows that a higher robotization of production processes is associated with a growing wage-gap, at the expense of unskilled workers. Additionally, the impact appears to be stronger where the institutional structure of the labor market is characterized by less strict regulations, with relevant implications for policymakers
Demography, Growth, and Robots in Advanced and Emerging Economies
This paper provides estimates of the impact of demographic change on labor productivity growth, relying on annual data during 1961–2018 for a panel of 90 advanced and emerging economies. We find that increases in both the young and old population shares have significantly negative effects on labor productivity growth, working via various channels—including physical and human capital accumulation. Splitting the analysis for advanced and emerging economies shows that population aging has a greater effect on emerging economies than on advanced economies. Extending the benchmark model to include a proxy for the robotization of production, we find evidence indicating that automation reduces the negative effects of unfavorable demographic change—in particular, population aging—on labor productivity growth

The rising trend of the automation of production processes is feeding numerous concerns about the possibility that, in a not-so-distant future, a significant share of

PREOCCUPAZIONI CULTURALI E CONCEZIONE GIURIDICA IN GIANVINCENZO GRAVINA
This essay examines the role taken on by Gianvincenzo Gravina in the cultural context of his times. So, a complex and eclectic character emerges, as he tried to find answers adequate to problems and to propose solutions to the cultural and social matters of a turmoiled period like the one Italy was living, with particular reference to the South of Italy, between the seventeenth and eighteenth century. The juridicial studies, which Gravina was strongly imbued with, were used to deepen both in theory and in practice, the contests of the new concept about knowledge which, on the one hand, had its origins in the classical culture, on the other took into consideration the theories of modern science, too. Gravina attributed a great importance to the study of Roman Law and, through it, also analysed history and language, but above all, the Calabrian philosopher suggested a reading of Roman Law that could be an example to the contemporary social and political world. This essay also deals with the forms of government studied by Gravina in which he, anticipating Montesquieu, reached the conclusion according to which the best form had to consider the substantial presence of jurists, seen among other things, as the members of the emerging middle classes, who could be in control of the same sovereign, able to avoid the danger of an authoritarian and tyrannical drift

The role of educative thought in the life and work of Antonio Gramsci
Many philosophers have propounded a vision of an improved society, what distinguishes Antonio Gramsci is his continuous effort to make it happen by understanding the process in order to put into practice. Gramsci's conviction about the importance of educative development came from both theory and experience. While there has been considerable examination of Gramsci's work in relation to the Prison Notebooks, this study will seek to address a lacuna in Gramsci scholarship. Using Gramsci's philological method, I analyse Gramsci's pre-prison activity; his pre-prison articles and letters, which, together with his letters from prison, formed part of his educative mission. This educative process was necessary, in order to construct a new party which would develop a collective will, collaboratively, with the masses. In this study therefore, I explore the contexts and formative experiences of the first part of his life together with the intellectual sources from which Gramsci developed his later theories, making central hitherto underemphasised connections between them which informed his writing and ideas. I intend to illustrate that Gramsci's underlying purpose in his writing, and political activity, was not only practical, on how to create a new socialist ruling class, but also educative in forming the mindset and values of his comrades. So that in addition to outlining his vision of a new order, he implicitly guided or explicitly explained the processes by which the necessary changes in social relations and moral climate could be made in order to achieve it. Each person had to engage with the values of the new order so that each could contribute to the construction of a new robust state. It was essential to build a hegemony at the most profound level, one which was dependent on collective understandings and a collective will
In the church of S. Francesco in Gravina, the feud of the Orsini, there is a beautiful sculpture of Immacolata which has stylistic features that allow us to strike it to the production of Nicola Antonio Brudaglio. The sculptor Giacomo Colombo's pupil had planted a flourishing shop in Andria and throughout the eighteenth century he would become a reference to the religious commissions in Puglia
