Preferentially directed flux motion in a very thin superconducting strip with nanostructured profile
We report an experimental and numerical study of the vortex matter moving in a very thin type II
superconducting strip with asymmetrically nanostructured profile. The asymmetric thickness
profile generates a geometrical force landscape that sets a preferential direction for vortex motion,
resulting in an uncommon voltage-current curve of the strip, with vanishingly small asymmetry in
the positive and negative critical currents but appreciably large asymmetry in the voltages.
Experimental results as well as the geometrical force affecting the moving vortex matter are
discussed in the framework of time dependent Ginzburg-Landau model for superconductors with
variable thickne
Mesoscopic lateral S/N/S weak links: Josephson effects and Josephson-like vortex flow
We report an experimental and numerical study of magneto-transport properties of mesoscopic lateral S/N/S superconducting weak links where the N region is made of the same material as the S banks, though with strongly reduced critical temperature. Magnetoresistance oscillations and clear dc and ac Josephson effects are observed. Experimental results are analyzed in the framework of the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau model for mesoscopic type II superconductors with an inhomogeneous critical temperature. The analysis suggests that dissipative branches of the current-voltage curve of the weak link in the presence of a magnetic field are accounted for by moving 'Josephson-like' vortices. These relatively fast excitations are anisotropic as per the ordinary Josephson vortex in tunnel junctions, but have a normal core like the ordinary Abrikosov vortex in plain superconducting strips. Moreover, unlike the vortex in tunneling junctions, in the lateral S/N/S weak link, the extension of the moving vortex is larger than the extension of the static one. Further, we report in some detail on the lateral proximity effect, and the deviations from the ideality of the current-phase relation of this kind of lateral weak link in the Josephson regime
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Coexistence of superconductivity and magnetism in ruthenocuprates
The layered ruthenocuprate materials RuSr2LnCu2O8 and
RuSr2(Ln1+xCe1-x)Cu2O10, with Ln=lanthanide or Y for both structures,
consist of pairs of CuO2 planes alternating with perovskite-like sheets of
vertex sharing RuO6 octahedra. Samples of Ru-1212 and Ru-1222 materials
were known to show both superconducting and magnetic transitions. Here,
we discuss the problem of the coexistence, considering a model which
includes two types of carriers responsible separately for the ordered phases.
By considering the interplay between a hybridization mechanism and the
direct exchange coupling between these carriers, we look at the stability of
the coexisting phase assuming an inhomogeneous superconducting phase.</jats:p
Normal-State Optical Features Study of Nd123 and Gd1212 HTSC Materials for Photonics and Metamaterials Fabrication
YBCO-like Nd123 and Gd1212 superconductors in the normal state, in the visible and infrared regime, have been analyzed in this work. Superconductors, particularly high-temperature superconductors (HTSCs), hold indeed a great interest in the highly innovative research field of metamaterials and photonics with important applications. Indeed nanostructured devices suffer from increasing resistivity with frequency in metals, and superconducting materials provide a viable route to approach this problem. Moreover, HTSCs are plasmonic materials at nonzero temperature, and their features, not available in conventional materials, make them very attractive for metamaterials use. In particular, we investigate Nd123, for its high Tc, and Gd1212, for the coexistence, in its unitary cell, of magnetic order and superconductivity. Samples were extracted from top-seeded melt-textured growth bulk pellets and bars. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis, performed in the far-infrared, shows articulated peak structures with k < kmin and a plateau for higher k, allowing for Nd123 and Gd1212 pseudogap measurement. Raman spectroscopy and microscopy provided a structural mapping of our Nd123 samples, allowing for distinguishing the superconducting matrix from nonsuperconducting phase inclusions (precipitates) and providing an instrument to discriminate among optical responses of the different compounds
