Fakultas Sastra, Universitas Negeri Malang. Pembimbing (I) Mitra Istiar Wardhana, S.Kom, M.T (II) Ike Ratnawati S.Pd. M.Pd.
Responsive socio-cultural contexts: Supporting five year olds to become literate in a second language.
Learning one's own indigenous language and culture as a second language learner within formal mainstream education settings can pose many challenges, especially for students who have been raised in the dominant first language and who are just beginning school. This paper discusses a Māori language resource used by a Māori immersion teacher to respond to these challenges. This resource utilises community support to develop students' phonological awareness while simultaneously increasing their oral language. This study shows that within a relatively short period of time, students' phonological knowledge improved along with their confidence and ability to speak in Māori. With these skills they were then able to progress more successfully to becoming literate in Māori, their second language
Options as Islamic Financial Derivative: Thoughts provoking discussion
After highlighting different views of Islamic scholars on option derivatives, the paper explores a potential role for option derivatives as useful risk management tool in commodity markets, while attuned to Islamic Shariah principles. The author illustrated a model of commodity stock market to show how options can play a role similar to that of insurance of risks in commodity markets.options;risk;islamic derivative
Developing a project architecture and evaluating the Enterprise Architecture initiative at Tata Steel
Organizations have become more aware of Enterprise Architecture and the need to work under architecture. Tata Steel assumes that Enterprise Architecture can help them realizing the benefits that come from working with Enterprise Architecture as presented in literature. This thesis consists out of two parts. The first part is about the process of developing a business and application architecture, and the development of the architecture itself. An ‘as-is’ project architecture, which represents the system landscape and business processes at the start of the project, and a ‘to-be’ project architecture, which represents how the system landscape and business processes should look when the project finishes, was developed. The goal of the project for which the architecture was developed is to change the system landscape in such a way that it can support the newly developed distribution model. The second part of the thesis focuses on research questions about Enterprise Architecture. The most important goal of this thesis is to describe how Enterprise Architecture can be implemented in an organization like Tata Steel. The Enterprise Architecture approach that Tata has chosen is described, evaluated and improvements are suggested. The governance of architectural models is discussed and the value of architecture is discussed. All while using the experience gotten from creating the ‘as-is’ and ‘to-be’ project architectures.Computer Science Information ArchitectureWeb Information Systems GroupElectrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Scienc
H. J. Bhabha : a case study of synchronous references
Quantitative analysis of the events of synchronous references in the research papers followed throughout the publishing career of an individual scientist revealed interesting highlights on the knowledge-generating-system. In the case study of Homi Jehangir Bhabha first quinquennium and fifth quinquennium of his research career had low Self-references; third quinquennium and fourth quinquennium had moderate Self-references; whereas second quinquennium had highest Self-references. The two major clusters of Self-references occurring during the second and third quinquennium were indicators of active periods of knowledgegenerating and faster communications.(Revised version published in 2006 in International Journal of Nuclear Knowledge Management,Vol.2. Design of the storage and handling area of the HIsarna demonstration plant: at Tata Steel IJmuiden
Currently, Tata Steel IJmuiden is developing a new ironmaking process, called HIsarna. This technique will result in a significant reduction of carbon emissions, allow for more flexible input requirements for materials, and lead to a reduction of processing costs as well. In 2010, Tata Steel IJmuiden built a pilot plant to test and develop the technology of HIsarna. The next step is an industrial scale installation: the HIsarna demonstration plant. The design of the storage and handling area of this new plant is the subject of this research. At this area, the materials are stored and pre-processed before they will be injected into HIsarna. Thus far, Tata Steel has been working on the first design phase of the demonstration plant. Nevertheless, the design of the storage and handling area is missing. Consequently, the required quantities and necessary pre-processing steps of materials are unknown. Moreover, the existing storage and handling area at the HIsarna pilot plant cannot directly be used for the demonstration plant, because the new plant must meet HIsarna’s annual capacity requirements of around one million mt, be able to process iron-rich waste materials (also called reverts), and comply with HIsarna’s green ambitions.First, an analysis of materials is performed to establish the suitable materials and their properties for processing at the HIsarna demonstration plant. This analysis is essential to identify how these properties may affect the design of the storage and handling area. Second, the storage and handling area of the HIsarna pilot plant is analysed, particularly to identify the necessary processing steps and potential future bottlenecks of the HIsarna demonstration plant. Next, a design of the storage and handling area is created by using multi-criteria analyses and information obtained from literature. A simulation model, created in Simio® software and verified using several techniques, is used to examine the performance of the design, but also to investigate the affecting parameters; these are found by performing a fractional factorial design. Based on these results, optimal parameter settings are found to optimise the design. According to analyses performed, the suitable materials for HIsarna (besides the standard materials such as iron ore and coal) are by-products of the blast furnaces and the oxy steel plant: BF sludge, currently produced BOF sludge and historic BOF sludge. These materials are particularly interesting because of the high levels of iron, carbon and zinc. Less positive are the high moisture level, the stickiness and the inhomogeneity of composition. These might result in problems during processing. The following design is created: iron ore and coal will be transported by conveyor belt to the storage and handling area, historic BOF sludge by truck, and BF and currently produced BOF sludge by pipeline. Both the raw and handled materials will be stored in enclosed storage systems. Each material will be pre-processed at a dedicated handling line; all materials within the storage and handling area are transported by conveyor belt. The raw material storage of iron ore, coal and BOF sludge has a capacity for two days; and that of BF and currently produced BOF sludge for seven days. In addition, all handled material storages have a capacity of three days.Based on the results of the fractional factorial design, three designs for the storage and handling area are proposed. Each of the designs has a different starting point. The second design option provides the highest reliability and is recommended if financial resources are not a restrictive factor. The third design is an interesting choice when fewer financial resources are available but still an adequate reliability is aimed at. Finally, the first design results in the lowest reliability. This option may only be suggested when funds are limited. In all cases, redundancy can be added to the storage and handling area, increasing the reliability and decreasing the required storage capacity. All designs fit the selected location at the Tata Steel site, IJmuiden.<br/
Understanding the computational models of cerebellum using robots
Robotics has evolved since its inception and has found major applications in industries. With recent de- mand for medical and social robots, they are required to be flexible, compliant and adaptable. Today’s robots are far from performing smooth, fine co-ordinated movements that are required to be used in the fields mentioned above. Primates seem to be excellent at such tasks, especially humans who perform complex tasks in dynamic environments and the credit is attributed to the complex brain structures and bio-mechanical design. In particular, cerebellum is understood to be involved specifically in fine co-ordinated movement control. But the understanding of computations that are responsible for this functionality has seen no consensus yet. One reason for this is the number of theories that exist to ex- plain the functionality. This work focuses on reviewing existing theories and models to come up with testable model cases in a control scenario. To understand the principles behind cerebellum two differ- ent control scenarios are developed. One a control engineering approach to control the position of a DC motor and second a biological control scenario of vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) for image stabilization. For testing these a biologically realistic firing rate neuron model is used. For the implementation of VOR a robot head with stereo cameras is used. The purpose of VOR is to reduce image blur in the cameras. And cerebellum is known to be the adaptable block of this reflex. At the end of this work from the engi- neering control scenario it was observed that cerebellum as forward model adds stability to the system. And in the case of VOR the cerebellum was able to adapt the gains when subjected to disturbances.Mechanical, Maritime and Materials EngineeringBioMechanical Engineerin
Anticipatory Demand Responsive Transport: A Tata Steel IJmuiden Case Study
Transport operators worldwide need to focus on how they can implement automated vehicles in their schedules in the coming years. Automated vehicles are particularly suited for use in demand-responsive transport, which is often modeled as a Dial-a-Ride problem. This report investigates how public transport demand forecasts can be used to improve the routing of vehicles in the Dial-a-Ride problem. In particular, two improvements to solutions of the Dial-a-Ride problem are investigated. The first, empty vehicle rerouting, deals with the relocation of vehicles that are currently idle, which has been studied before. The second, demand rerouting, is introduced in this thesis and uses demand forecasts to deal with the issue of which vehicles serve which passenger. To analyze the performance of these additions to the Dial-a-Ride problem, the rerouting measures are modeled for various demand distribution patterns on the road network of the Tata Steel IJmuiden area in the Netherlands. A visualization tool is created to analyze the key performance indicators of the solution algorithm, with an insertion algorithm used to assign passengers to vehicles. Throughout this report it is assumed that deterministic distance and path matrices are available for the network. Stochastic travel times are not taken into account, but can be incorporated in the model. The inclusion of empty vehicle rerouting reduces passenger rejections by up to 98% and can reduce passenger travel and waiting times by up to 5 and 16% respectively. This requires an increase of the vehicle distance driven per passenger by up to 25%. Demand rerouting reduces travel and waiting times by up to 6 and 30% respectively, with only a very minor increase in vehicle distance driven. The main conclusion of this thesis is that the two rerouting measures can be combined and that this combines the strengths of both types of rerouting. Passenger rejections are all but eliminated, passenger travel times can be reduced by 10% and waiting times can be reduced by almost 50%. This comes at the cost of only a 25% increase of vehicle distance driven per passenger. A sensitivity analysis of the input parameters of the model shows that the advantages of the rerouting measures are effective in all cases. Demand forecasts can thus be a very strong tool in optimizing the solution to Dial-a-Ride problems.Civil Engineering and Geoscience
Urgensi Pembentukan Lembaga Eksekutor dalam Eksekusi Putusan Pengadilan Tata Usaha Negara
The subject of this research reinforces the concept of the governance of the state by wich the verdict should be executed by any state governance body and the limitation of presidential authority as authorized in executing every judicial decision of state governance in accordance with the statement of 116 verse 5 (5) the 1986 article no. 5 The comprehensive author seeks to review and analyze several decisions in the state governance courts that are not yet fully impelemented and analyze the presidential commission mechanism in executing a state ordinance ruling that should be indifferent to the ruling and a juxo philosophical comparison of the 1986 no. 5 act on the judicial system of state, The 2004 act no. 9 on the first change to act no. 5 in 1986 on the second change to act 5 in 1986 on the state administrative judicial being derivated throught several points: 1) How should a judicial decision in a state governance court be carried out?, 2) What are the limits of the authority of the executioners in the execution of the state ordinance judicial decisions?. The type of research used in this study is the normative-based library (library research). Legislation as a primary source and various literature derived from books, journals, papers, scripts, as well as articles secondary to the conceptual approach. The study suggest that: 1) The absence of executioners in executing individual state governance judicial decisions leaves many officials who have not carried out the ruling. 2) The president’s authorization to execute each judicial decision of state enterprises also does not have a positive effect on the administration of state governance. As for the implications the author gets: 1) The need for an executive body to be formed in executing judgement rulings of state enterprises that are obliged to impose and oversee whether the ruling is ignored by state adminisitrators or not. 2) The need for the ruling to be carried out by the official/administration of the state after amar verdict has been read by the judge to make sure that the certainly of the law as the goal of the law is realized.
