Notes on Macroeconomic and Institutional Convergence of the Economies of Western Balkans Countries
Abstract
The purpose of this contribution is to discuss the economic performance of non-EU Balkans countries
compared to the European Union and some selected other countries of the Mediterranean Basin over
the period 1999-2008. The idea is to highlight different paths of convergence to the European Union of
different groups of countries interacting with the EU for different purposes (access versus partnership).
We also try and make an attempt to assess roughly the different policy strategies to evaluate the
stimula and obstacles to endogenous growth given to Balkans countries through the Process of
Stabilisation and Association

Female participation to labour markets and the role of policy measures in local performance
Abstract
In recent times the economic conditions of working women have substantially improved in many aspects. On the new international policy agenda we now find the increase in both female employment and participation. Nevertheless, isolated policy measures can prove ineffective or even deteriorating, if not balanced with local needs and planning strategies.
Several studies (i.e. Del Boca & Wetzels, 2007) have recently shown that surrounding institutional context significantly affects market participation and performance of female workers, or more generally parents (ILO, 2008).
This paper will attempt to cast some light on the determinants of existing gaps in the supply of employment (and social) policy measures offered by some (Nordic) countries compared to other (Southern) countries, arguing how the crucial issue shared by many EU members is not (only) the reduction of unemployment or the increase in employment for women, but (also) the enforcement of the principle of non discrimination through increased participation and a new approach to potential relation between female work and innovation in technologies as well as in management.
Keywords: labour market; female employment; innovation; discrimination.

Structural and magnetic properties of GdSr2RuCu2O8 films
Films of the rutheno-cuprate compound GdSr2RuCu2O8 were grown by on-axis dc sputtering technique, at temperature Ts = 837 °C and in pure oxygen atmosphere. Structural and compositional measurements have been performed on samples prepared on different substrates and at different ex situ annealing procedures. In particular, a detailed analysis of the structure and the local composition of the films have been obtained by high-resolution X-ray diffraction and by energy-dispersive X-ray microanalysis (EDX) of scanning electron microscope (SEM). The films resulted c-axis oriented and single phased. We show the results obtained on a sample deposited on LaAlO3 substrate, (1 0 0) oriented. Magnetic measurements as function of temperature from 1.9 K to 400 K and applied magnetic fields up to 7 T are discussed
An atomic Coxeter presentation [Elektronisk resurs]
We study parabolic double cosets in a Coxeter system by decomposing them into atom(ic coset)s, a generalization of simple reflections introduced in a joint work with Elias, Libedinsky, Patimo. We define and classify braid relations between compositions of atoms and prove a Matsumoto theorem. Together with a quadratic relation, our braid relations give a presentation of nilCoxeter algebroids similar to Demazure's presentation of nilCoxeter algebras. Our consideration of reduced compositions of atoms gives rise to a new combinatorial structure, which is equipped with a length function and a Bruhat order and is realized as Tits cone intersections in the sense of Iyama-Wemyss.
