The PANDA experiment: physics goals and experimental setup
No full textPANDA (antiProton ANnihilation at DArmstadt) is an experiment that will run at the GSI laboratory, Darmstadt, Germany, in 2019. A high intensity antiproton beam with momentum up to 15 GeV/c will collide on a fixed proton target (pellet target or jet target). A wide range of physics topics will be investigated: char- monium states and open charm states above the DD¯ threshold; exotic states like glueballs, oddballs, hybrids, multiquarks, molecules; the spectroscopy of the excited states of strange and charm baryons; non-perturbative QCD dynamics in the pp¯ production cross section of charm and strange baryons and their spin correlations; the behaviour of hadrons in nuclear matter; hypernuclear physics; electromagnetic proton form factors in the timelike region; the CP violation in the charm sector, rare and forbidden decays of charm baryons and mesons

Câncer de boca: conhecimento e prática de cirurgiões-dentistas do Estado de Santa Catarina

Programa de Pós-Graduação em OdontologiaA American Câncer Society (ACS) define o câncer como um grupo de doenças representadas pela multiplicação desordenada de células defeituosas ou atípicas, que não conseguem serem rastreadas pelo sistema imunológico. Estima-se que, em 2020, o número de casos novos anuais seja da ordem de 15 milhões, sendo que, cerca de 60% desses, ocorrerão em países em desenvolvimento. Estima-se que um terço dos casos novos de câncer que ocorrem atualmente no mundo poderiam ser prevenidos. O câncer bucal é uma doença genética, complexa e multifatorial. É potencialmente fatal e continua a ter uma incidência global elevada, sendo considerado, assim, um problema de saúde pública. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o conhecimento e a prática coletiva dos cirurgiões-dentistas (CDs) de Santa Catarina sobre câncer de boca, através do instrumento adaptado de DIB (2004). Participaram deste estudo 385 CDs distribuídos por mesorregiões do estado de Santa Catarina sorteados aleatoriamente e o instrumento utilizado foi o envio de questionários por correio convencional ou via internet (e-mail). Os resultados apontaram baixo interesse da população-alvo já que o retorno foi de 19,7% no correio convencional e 1,4% por e-mail. O perfil dos profissionais pesquisados mostra que 51,3% eram do sexo feminino; 35,8% estavam entre 31 a 40 anos, 54,5% trabalham somente na rede privada; 55,6% possuem especialidade; 88,31% não possuem o hábito de fumar; 58,6% obtiveram sua formação acadêmica em instituição pública (55,32% no estado de Santa Catarina); 44% se auto-avaliaram com um conhecimento regular sobre câncer de boca; 74,2% relataram ter baixa confiança para a realização do diagnóstico do câncer de boca; 87,5% relataram que os seus pacientes não são suficientemente bem informados sobre o câncer de boca; 27,27% relataram não realizar exame em seus pacientes na busca por lesões suspeitas; 44,7% encaminham os casos suspeitos para um especialista em estomatologia e o Centro de Especialidade Odontológica foi apontado somente por 11,7% da amostra para encaminhamento de lesões suspeitas; 47,5% apontaram que nunca realizaram um diagnóstico de câncer de boca; 63% relataram corretamente que o carcinoma espinocelular é o mais freqüente tipo de câncer de boca. Somente 19% apontaram que a língua é o local mais freqüentemente acometido pelo câncer de boca. Quanto à faixa etária (acima de 40 anos) e sintomatologia (úlcera indolor) a maior parte da amostra apontou corretamente; 16% não souberam responder qual a condição mais comumente associada ao câncer de boca, mais de 90% da amostra afirmaram o álcool e o tabaco como fatores de risco para o câncer de boca. Em relação aos conceitos obtidos pela amostra 41,3% receberam conceito "B" sendo um bom conhecimento sobre o assunto e 36,9% receberam conceito "C" significando um conhecimento regular sobre câncer de boca. Estes resultados permitem concluir que mesmo com um bom conceito sobre o assunto a prática preventiva, ou seja, informar os pacientes para a prevenção desta patologia, não vem sendo realizada pelos profissionais. Além disso, os profissionais ainda relataram não se sentirem confiantes para a realização do diagnóstico do câncer de boca e demonstram desconhecer os serviços de atendimento para realização do encaminhamento de lesões suspeitas

Measurements will be shown of limits on the direct CP violation of the charmed D+ and D0 and on the mixing of the D0 meson (lifetime difference between the CP-even and CP-odd states of the D0 and 'wrong sign' decays)
Status and charm physics prospects at PANDA
No full textPANDA is an experiment that will run at the future facility FAIR, Darmstadt, Germany. A high intensity and cooled antiproton beam will collide on a fixed hydrogen or nuclear target covering center-of-mass energies between 2.2 and 5.5 GeV. PANDA addresses various physics aspects from the low energy non-perturbative region towards the perturbative regime of QCD, for example: The formation or production of exotic non-qqbar charm meson states connected to the recently observed XYZ spectrum; the study of gluon-rich matter, such as glueballs and hybrids; the spectroscopy of the excited states of strange and charm baryons, their production cross section and their spin correlations; the behaviour of hadrons in nuclear matter; the hypernuclear physics; the electromagnetic proton form factors in the timelike region. The PANDA experiment is designed to achieve the above mentioned physics goals with a setup with the following characteristics: An almost full solid angle acceptance; excellent tracking capabilities with high resolution (1-2 % at 1 GeV/c in the central region); secondary vertex detection with resolution ≈ 100 microns or better; electromagnetic calorimetry for detections of gammas and electrons up to 10 GeV; good particle identification of charge tracks (electrons, muons, pions, kaons, protons); a dedicated interchangeable central apparatus for the hypernuclear physics; detector and data acquisition system capable of working at 20 MHz interaction rate with an intelligent software trigger that can provide maximum flexibility
