Global Citizenship Education from an Intercultural Perspective
All over the world, societies are becoming increasingly multiethnic and multicultural. The presence of citizens with diverse backgrounds within the same nation-state necessitates a rethinking of the concept of citizenship, which in many countries is still rooted in the nationalistic theories of the 19th century. Acknowledging people's multiple identities and senses of belonging has become essential in shaping a new understanding of citizenship. In this context, the reflections of the Council of Europe and UNESCO—particularly their promotion of Global Citizenship Education (GCE)—are especially relevant. This article aims to stimulate reflection on GCE by integrating an intercultural approach. The research findings and practical programmes on citizenship education and intercultural competence developed by the Centre for Intercultural Studies at the University of Verona, Italy, offer further impetus for this reevaluation. Finally, the author advocates for the adoption of Intercultural Citizenship Education (ICE) as a means to transcend nationalistic, Western-centric and neoliberal frameworks and to foster global dialogue and scholarly exchange
Tutorial: Silicon Systems for Wireless LAN
The tutorial is aimed to help new device, circuit, and system
designers to function knowledgeably in the area. It can serve as
a comprehensive user guide to researchers and engineers who
have already acquired basic knowledge of microelectronics.
The tutorial is based on a recently published book: Z. Stamenkovic, G. Leger, and A. Bosio, "Silicon Systems for Wireless LAN

Maxillary lateral incisor agenesis and its relationship to overall tooth size
Statement of problem: Agenesis of the maxillary lateral incisor is linked to differences in overall tooth size. Thus, the mesio-distal space required for final esthetic restoration in patients with missing one of both maxillary lateral incisors may be smaller.
Purpose. The purpose of this study is to determine if a tooth size discrepancy exists in orthodontic patients with agenesis of the maxillary lateral incisor(s).
Material and methods. Forty sets of dental casts from white orthodontic patients (19 male and 21 female) mean age 15.9 years were collected. All casts had agenesis of one or both maxillary lateral incisors. The teeth were measured with a digital caliper at their greatest mesio-distal width and then compared to a control group matched for ethnicity, age and sex. S One-way repeated measures ANOVA (α=.05) was used for statistical analysis.
Results. Males in the test group had significantly smaller maxillary posterior teeth when compared to males in the control group, with differences ranging from 0.28-0.78mm. Females showed significantly smaller maxillary anterior teeth, with differences ranging from 0.22-0.42mm. The remaining maxillary lateral incisor was also significantly smaller (1.27mm difference) in the male and female unilateral agenesis test groups indicating higher incidence of ‘peg’ laterals when compared to the control group.
Conclusions. Agenesis of one or both maxillary lateral incisors is associated with a tooth size discrepancy. White males experienced smaller than normal posterior maxillary teeth and females showed smaller anterior maxillary teeth. This article is based on the Master’s thesis (J.W.) presented in 2011 in partial fulfilment of requirements for the degree of Master of Science, Marquette University School of Dentistry, 2011.Peer reviewe
A dynamic programming algorithm for the single-machine scheduling problem with deteriorating processing times
A combinatorial optimization problem arising from text classification
We study a combinatorial optimization problem related to the automatic classification of texts. The problem consists of covering a given text using strings from a given set, where a cost is incurred for each type of string used. We give a 0-1 linear programming formulation and we report on computational experiences on very large instances using two different Lagrangean relaxations and heuristic algorithms based on simulated annealing and threshold accepting

A dynamic programming algorithm for the single-machine scheduling problem with release dates and deteriorating processing times
We consider a scheduling problem in which the processing time of each job deteriorates, i.e. it increases as time passes after the release date of the job.
We present a dynamic programming algorithm coupled with upper bounding and lower
bounding techniques to compute exact solutions. We report on problem instances of
different size and we analyze the dependence between the ranges to which the data belong and the computing time
Computational approaches to a combinatorial optimization problem arising from text classification
We present a combinatorial optimization problem with a particular cost structure: a constrained set of elements must be chosen from a ground set and the ground set is partitioned into subsets corresponding to types of elements. The constraints concern the elements, whereas the solution cost does not depend on the elements but only on their types. The motivation of this study comes from text categorization but we believe that the same combinatorial structure may emerge in many different contexts. We prove that the problem is NP-hard. We give a 0-1 linear programming formulation and we report on computational experiences on very large instances using branch-and-bound algorithms based on two different Lagrangean relaxations and heuristic algorithms based on Threshold Accepting and Simulated Annealing
Knockin’ on heaven’s door? Reframing the debate on temporary employment and wages: evidence from Europe
This article reframes the debate on the consequences of flexibilization in European labour markets focusing on the unexplored impact of temporary employment on occupational wages for permanent workers. Exploiting the variation in the temps’ density within occupation and age groups across European countries between 2003 and 2010, we find that temporary contracts negatively affect occupational average wages for insiders’ workers. These results are still robust using a dynamic system based on generalized method of moments (GMM-SYS) to account for potential endogeneity issues. We also explore the existence of heterogeneity across different occupational clusters and institutional settings. Our estimates indicate that the knock-on effect is large in countries with low employment protection legislation and it is driven by occupations characterized by untechnical work logics
