No full textLaGro, Perihan Esra (Dogus Author)Turkey has started accession negotiations with the EU. This major step towards Turkish membership of the EU implies many changes and challenges for both sides, and undoubtedly creates complexities. It also means that Turkey has to follow the EU agenda more closely than ever in order to comply with the requirements of the accession process. Simultaneously, the EU is evolving very fast within the global order, in which not only the gap between developed and developing states but also the gap between ‘haves’ and ‘have-nots’ in individual societies and nations increases. The efforts to overcome these gaps and the need for more convergence in the enlarged union are reflected within the EU and its individual member states vis-à-vis specific policy choices, and provides a strong incentive to accelerate reforms at all levels, as manifested in the recent efforts of the Barosso Commission

While each enlargement accelerates debates on deepening versus widening, specific policy issues, budgetary concerns and the EU politics of conditionality, it is significant that the political context of successive enlargements is highly informative concerning the future of the EU. The 2004 enlargement, with its ten new member states, amounts to a historical dream come true — that is, the unification of Europe. The recent accession of Bulgaria and Romania added to this unification process, and will possibly be followed by one or more of the newly independent states of the former Yugoslavia. However, the ideal of a united Europe aside, the political power play and shifting policy paradigms of the EU member states seem to be moving up on the EU’s political agenda

No full textFiziksel çekiciliğin çok önem kazandığı günümüzde, fizikselgörünümünden memnun olmayan kişi sayısının da giderek arttığıgörülmektedir. Bunun sonucu olarak, literatürde fiziksel görünümündenmemnun olmama nedeniyle estetik cerrahiye başvuran hasta sayısı vebu alanda yapılan harcamaların dikkate değer ölçüde arttığı ifadeedilmektedir. Estetik cerrahi sonrası, hastaların beden görünümündeve benlik kavramında değişim gibi pozitif sonuçlar ortaya çıkarken,fiziksel ve psikososyal alanlarda birçok olumsuz sonuçlar da ortayaçıkabilmektedir. Son yıllardaki çalışmalar, psikososyal sorunların,fiziksel sorunlarla aynı sıklıkta ya da daha fazla olduğunu ve busorunların estetik cerrahi öncesi, sırası ve sonrasında olabileceğinigöstermektedir. Hastalardaki psikososyal sorunların göz ardı edilmesi,uyum problemleri, ameliyat sonucundan memnuniyetsizlik, kendilerineve sağlık personeline zarar verme davranışı gibi yeni sorunlara yolaçabilmektedir. Bu nedenle estetik cerrahi hastalarında, psikososyalbakımın fiziksel bakımın ayrılmaz bir parçası olarak kabul edilmesigerektiği ve bu konuda hemşirelerin sorumluluğunun çok önemliolduğu ifade edilmektedi

No full textLaGro, Perihan Esra (Dogus Author)Negotiations on Turkey’s accession to the EU have begun in an obviously unfavourable environment. They have been launched at a time when more states have acceded than the EU can currently cope with. The present time is also characterized by EU citizens who have become alienated and therefore question the raison d’être of the EU. Politicians who prioritize domestic politics often use the EU project as a scapegoat. One outcome of this domestic politics first trend has been the negative results of referenda on the Constitutional Treaty in France and in the Netherlands. It is therefore uncontroversial to claim that the debate on the future of Europe is far from over, but rather has only just begun. In this fashion, the negotiations on Turkey’s accession have been greeted by their share of the unfavourable environment. Thus, everything indicates that Turkey’s accession will not be an easy process. Domestic political concerns on both sides will shadow negotiations on each and every chapter of the acquis and political issues, interwoven with economic and socio-cultural factors, will create further complexity. Taking into account that the negotiations are based on unequal positions and the EU politics of conditionality, the accession process may go on for years. The outcome will remain unclear until the very end, possibly with referenda in some EU member states on Turkey’s accession. On the other hand, after more than forty years of being an associate member of the EU, negotiations on Turkey’s accession are at last under way
