Catholicism and the Cold War: Fulton J. Sheen\u27s Integration of Catholicism as an American Religion
No full textThe early years of the Cold War set in motion events that would bring Catholicism forth as a nationally recognized American religion. The enormously popular Bishop Fulton J. Sheen led this movement with his strict anti-communist message. Bishop Sheen was one of the most prominent and important Catholics during this period of the Cold War. However, in recent decades, Sheen\u27s name has been replaced with names such as John. F. Kennedy, Mother Teresa, and Pope John Paul II as the most influential Catholics in the 20th century, though Sheen laid the foundation for the acceptance of Catholicism that allowed John F. Kennedy to be elected to the Presidency. Through an analysis of documents written by Sheen and others, Fulton J. Sheen\u27s anti-communist rhetoric and his presentation of Catholicism as an American-friendly religion will be examined. Bishop Fulton J. Sheen\u27s extensive contributions to integrating Catholicism into American culture can be chiefly attributed to his religious conversions of key members of the Communist party in America, his extensive publications and sermons on the Catholic view of communism, and his ability to work cooperatively with the members of various other denominations to create a united religious stand against communism

Second part is decribing literary legacy of bishop Sheen, trying to grasp main emphases in his work, referring on topical komplexity of Sheen's books, depicting author's apologetic writing style. The topic is accomplished with Appendix I. to submit complete Sheen's biography list. The third part is more profound insight into Sheen's christocentric theology which is particularly concerned in Cross, and it also includes further theological insights, biblical quotations and reflexions by several significant theologians. In fact, this part is theological interpretation of Sheen's book Life of Christ
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
