In vitro changes to Fuji II LC, Fuji IX and Compoglass, immersed in acetate buffer solutions
The aim of this study was to examine the changes to the weight and strength of restorative materials immersed in acetate media over a period of 16 weeks. Specimens of Fuji II LC and Fuji IX ((IC Int'l) and Compoglass (Ivoclar) were immersed in acetate buffer solutions containing calcium hydrogen orthophosphate at pH3 and pH7. Specimens in acetate media were maintained at 37'C with slight agitation. All solutions were changed and retained at weekly intervals and the specimens were weighed. After 1,2,3,4,8,12 and 16 weeks, batches of specimens were, subjected to shear punch testing. Seven batches of 12 samples were prepared of each material and for each pH. One-way ANOVA of she 3 materials and both pH's showed statistically significant differences between the groups. All specimecns gained weight at the commencement of the study (week I) and those in pH7 remained relatively unchanged thereafter. The specimens in p113 showed a gradual loss of weight after an initial gain as week 1. The shear punch strength of Compoglass peaked at week 2 and remained almost constant thereafter. There was a slight increase in shear punch strength observed in the other restorative materials at pH7 through weekcs I to 16. Fuli E LC and Fuii IX showed a considerably lower shear punch strength than Composlast. All soeciinen in vH3 solutions had an initial wei hi gain but a net weigtht lost was observed

Periodicities of palaeo-climatic records extracted from the Dome Fuji deep core
P(論文)The Antarctic ice sheet preserves palaeo-climate information in the form of physical and chemical stratigraphy. A deep ice core was continuously drilled down to a depth of 2503m at Dome Fuji Station, East Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica, during the 1993-97 JARE inland operations. A time scale for the Dome Fuji core is calculated from past accumulation rates and an ice flow model. A depth-age profile was obtained for the past 320kyr back in time. The obtained palaeo-temperature profile shows the past three glacial and interglacial periods. The power spectrum for oxygen isotope variation for 320kyr shows three dominant cycles of 107kyr, 40kyr and 21kyr. Each of these three cycles is similar to Milankovitch cycles. Moving-window spectrum analysis, using a 130kyr window stepped by 10kyr over the past 320kyr, found these main cycles in every age. Variations of other chemical concentrations were also recovered from the Dome Fuji ice core, and are inversely correlated to the temperature profile. Concentrations of terrestrial and marine origin substances are high in glacial periods, and low in interglacial periods. Over the past 320kyr, the dominant periodicities of temperature were also detected in almost all chemical records.departmental bulletin pape
Saving Mt. Fuji
This is one of hundreds of 60-second radio spots created by the Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) for Kansas Public Radio (KPR). The purpose of this outreach program is to introduce the people of Kansas to the culture and current issues of East Asia.Broadcast Transcript: Mt. Fuji, or Fujisan is it is known here in Japan, has just been added to Unesco's World Heritage list as a cultural asset, honoring it for providing thousands of years of inspiration to artists, poets and religious pilgrims. This is good. This is also bad because it is expected to vastly increase the number of visitors to the country's tallest and most sacred mountain. And with an increase in people comes an increase in eco-degradation. Already, the nation's most recognizable landmark is visited by millions every year and that has taken its toll: traffic is horrendous and though tons of legal trash are hauled away annually, tons of illegal trash litter the forests. Will Fujisan's designation as a cultural asset draw so many more visitors that the very attributes that made it a cultural asset will be lost? Environmentalists, politicians and local officials are working to prevent this mountain from becoming a molehill. #Japan #Hacker #CEA
General tendencies of stable isotopes and major chemical constituents of the Dome Fuji deep ice core (scientific paper)
P(論文)Stable isotope compositions of water and major chemical constituents of the Dome Fuji ice core are analyzed and the data sets over the entire depth of the 2503-m core are presented in appropriate time resolution as consecutive series of average value in definite terms. These results based on the first stage analyses allow a temporal climatic dividing of the three glacial-interglacial cycles present in the records. A Comparison of the climatic and environmental characteristics of these climate stages is presented.departmental bulletin pape
