Development of Educational Kit for Practical Course in the Topic of Phase-Shift RC Oscillator
This research develops a phase-shift RC Oscillator trainer kit that can be used to give undergraduate students an understanding of one of the materials related to analog circuit practicum. The Oscillator is one of the essential subtopics to be examined thoroughly by electrical engineering students. Furthermore, the Resistor and Capacitor modules were provided separately to be connected to the trainer through jumper cables. The phase-shift RC circuit in the trainer kit used a single Op-Amp 741 while the Network model utilized an Inverting Amplifier to determine the gain which must be ≥ 29 times, therefore, Rfeedback ≥ 29 Rgain (Rfeedback = 30 kΩ and Rgain = 1 kΩ). Two tasks in this learning media were completed by students, namely measuring the output frequency and observing the phase shift. The output signal on this trainer kit was observed using only an Oscilloscope and a frequency counter. The phase inverter of the phase-shift RC Oscillator adjusts the output signal by 180o and sends feedback to the input, therefore, there is positive feedback. Meanwhile, the trainer kit had an output frequency specification of ~649 Hz (C = 100 nF, R = 1 kΩ) and it shifts the phase by 60o on each RC network. Using 2 and 3 R-C networks, the phase shifts were 120o and 180o, respectively. The trainer kit was packaged in a box made of acrylic with dimensions l x w x h = 20 cm x 28 cm x 5 mm. Through a questionnaire consisting of 13 criteria, this trainer kit was declared valid, namely r count > 0.2960 (5%) and reliable (Cronbach's alpha > 0.60, which was 0.732) to be used as a learning media based on user responses, namely students (N = 35). In the context of technical education, this trainer kit also supports the efficient implementation of practicum without compromising the learning objectives due to the ease of operation (plug & play through jumper cables) compared to fully assembling the circuit using a project board
Analyzing the Trends and Global Growth of Energy Harvesting for Implantable Medical Devices (IMDs) Research—A Bibliometric Approach
Abstract
Implantable medical devices (IMDs) play a crucial role in improving individuals’ well-being and ensuring their safety by providing real-time health data monitoring for recovery. The use of energy harvesting (EH) technology has become increasingly popular among researchers because it offers the potential to extend the battery life of IMDs and reduce their weight. This study successfully examined the expansion of EH in the field of IMDs, the distribution of publications across different countries, and the identification of the most influential authors for potential research collaborations. A bibliometric analysis was conducted to evaluate two metrics: performance and science mapping. Data was collected from the Scopus database from the initial publications until October 2023, encompassing 250 articles published in Englishlanguage journals. The titles, keywords, and abstracts of these publications were analyzed and interpreted using VOS Viewer (version 1.6.19). Furthermore, network analysis using VOS Viewer enabled the identification of key research clusters. The findings reveal a continuous increase in EH for research on infectious and parasitic diseases over the 15-year period from 2008 to 2023. The United States and the University of Bern are recognized as the leading contributors to this field, based on their country and institutional contributions, respectively. The author with the most published papers and citations hails from China. Additionally, this study identifies several opportunities for collaboration with countries, institutions, authors, and research hotspots in EH for IMDs that benefit the reader.Abstract

Noise and Bandwidth in Operational Amplifiers for Conventional TIAs used in Visible Light Communication
Trans-impedance amplifiers play an essential role in the physical layer of visible light communication systems. They are applied in the first stage of a visible light communication receiver. This short paper is a follow-up from a previous study about the bandwidth and noise of Op-Amp based trans-impedance amplifier as used in visible light communication systems through two approaches: calculation and simulation. The results of both calculation and simulation are then compared through several scenarios. In this study, the Orozco approach is used as a fundamental reference in calculating the trans-impedance amplifier’s bandwidth and noise. Whereas for simulation, we used TINATM-SPICE®
Rancang Bangun Layer Fisik Visible Light Communication Pada Sistem Transmisi Audio
Berdasarkan pengujian dapat ditunjukkan bahwa bandwidth optimum dari AFE transceiver adalah dalam rentang 50 kHz sampai 450 kHz (referensi redaman pada frekuensi cut-off = -3 dB) dan jarak maksimum transmisi data adalah 40 cm dengan sudut elevasi penerimaan sebesar 0 derajatCurrently, LED functions not only as illumination purpose but also can be used as a communication device. Commonly, this technology is called as "visible light communication (VLC)", which has begun to be applied in areas susceptible to electromagnetic waves, such as hospitals, aircraft cabins, airports, military headquarters and etc. Generally, the media, which is used as object of the data transmission, e.g. digital images, video, audio (music only), texts, and even data packets for internet browsing purposes. This research implements a VLC system that focuses on the physical layer, especially in Analog Front-End (AFE) part. The designed system consists of an AFE transmitter module as a modulator and an AFE receiver as a demodulator. The designing AFE transmitter adopts the Bias-T module principle, it has same the functionality but extremely lower in the cost factor. While in the AFE receiver part, the DC-offset remover module is implemented, it has a function to reduce the DC signal that generated from ambient light. The results of demonstration show that the system, functionally, can be used for transmitting audio signals via visible light and the received data can be displayed to the loudspeaker directly. In this work, the data observation is done by comparing the amplitude of input signal connected to the driver LED against the output signal from the last stage of the AFE receiver. From the test results, it can be shown that the optimum bandwidth of the AFE transceiver is about 50 kHz to 450 kHz (with attenuation at fc = -3 dB as a reference) and the maximum distance for data transmission is 40 cm and angle of reception is 0
