Measuring Vulnerability to Poverty Using Long-Term Panel Data
Measuring Vulnerability to Poverty Using Long-Term Panel Data Author & abstract Download & other version 16 References 4 Citations Related works & more Corrections Author Listed: Katja Landau (Georg-August-University Göttingen) Stephan Klasen (Georg-August-University Göttingen) Walter Zucchini (Georg-August-University Göttingen) Registered: Stephan Klasen Abstract We investigate the accuracy of ex ante assessments of vulnerability to income poverty using cross-sectional data and panel data. We use long-term panel data from Germany and apply di fferent regression models, based on household covariates and previous-year equivalence income, to classify a household as vulnerable or not. Predictive performance is assessed using the Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC), which takes account of false positive as well as true positive rates. Estimates based on cross-sectional data are much less accurate than those based on panel data, but for Germany, the accuracy of vulnerability predictions is limited even when panel data are used. In part this low accuracy is due to low poverty incidence and high mobility in and out of poverty

Izdelava animirane knjižice s pomočjo osnovnih animacijskih zakonitosti
Two things that come to mind when we talk about animation are cartoons and animated films that tend to be adored by children. As a future teacher who wants to teach children about animation in the best possible way, I decided that the topic of my thesis will be flip books. They are an ideal introduction to the world of animation and are the simplest inventions that show the illusion of movement. The thesis is divided in 3 parts.
In the theory part I will write about the history of animation ranging from the first contraptions to present moving pictures until the appearance of the first animated movies. I will explore the history of flip books and list some alternative forms of flip books that have appeared so far. I will study some basic animation techniques and analyse key points in animating human and anthropomorphic characters, as well as backgrounds. I will also analyse how to design characters and backgrounds. In the author's part I shall present my own process of making a flip book and write down my experiences.
In the pedagogical part I will talk about 2 cases where animation was successfully presented to primary school children. Based on these two cases, my experiences with making a flip book and the knowledge I have gained through writing the theory part of the thesis, I will make a lesson plan for students in the ninth grade of primary school in which they make their own flip book and thereby get acquainted with the basics of animation
Analysis of the impact of physical exercise on balance development in the preschool years
In the diploma work we studied the effects of exercise on the development of balance in the preschool period. Through a review of Slovenian literature, we presented the holistic development of a preschool child, with special emphasis on motor development. Accordingly, we studied motor skills and specifically emphasized balance. Research on the development of balance in the preschool period has shown that balance training makes sense, as it is a sieve for all physical activities. Previous research on the topic of balance has emphasized the usefulness of including exercises for the development of balance, but we have not seen research on how long it takes to make noticeable progress.
The research we studied mostly found differences between two different age groups, but not differences within the same age group.
Therefore, in the diploma work we investigated whether 5 times a week of balance development activities in the range of 15 movement units has the same effect on the development of balance of children of the same age (4 to 5 years). The sample consisted of 36 children, half of whom were experimental and half of the control group. The sample of variables consisted of a movement program of 15 training units with systematic planning of balance development activities and three adjusted balance tests. All children were tested twice with three adjusted balance tests before and after the experiment. Half of the children, which we named the experimental group, received a systematic step-by-step movement program for the development of balance in the range of 15 exercises, the other children (control group) did not receive this program.
The obtained data were processed with the statistical program Excel. The t-test for independent samples was used to determine differences between the groups, and the pair t-test was used to determine progress within the experimental group. Hypotheses were accepted with a 5% level of statistical characterization. Analysis of the data obtained by the quasi-experiment indicated progress in the experimental group, which was also statistically significant
A kaleidoscope of patterns
The purpose of this diploma thesis was to examine and understand the influence of colours, shapes and the animation on observer\u27s well-being. The aim was to create a relaxing video by designing different patterns together with 3D animation. Since colours effect mood and emotions, the objective was to utilize colours in order to bring individual’s mind to ease. Blue and purple colour were selected to create relaxing, yet dynamic patterns. Different shade combinations altogether with shapes resembling ocean creatures were used to create numerous patterns, including simpler coloured shapes as well as complex line drawings. The software application Adobe Illustrator offers designing in layers and rapport, which has been useful while creating diversity and the perception of depth. This has aided the creation of various diverse patterns, matching one another in either shapes or combinations of colours. Through the research of positive effects animation has on an individual, the patterns were placed into the 3D virtual space, where moving objects would bring them to life, consequently creating a relaxed atmosphere which would immerse the observer into a meditative state of mind. In addition to certain colours, observing water has been proven to have positive and healing effects on humans, analysis of different types of undulation was the main guidance with the object movement design. The software toolset Blender enabled the modelling of individual scenes, onto which patterns were projected in a variety of ways. Scenes were constructed with simple modelling and animating undulation of fabrics and surface of the water. Transparent, reflective and diffusive materials were added to the objects, creating a kaleidoscope of patterns, which form new patterns through movement and variable lighting effects. Relaxing music was included, connecting shorter animations together and simultaneously amplifying the effect of colours, undulation and animation on the individual’s frame of mind
"Meghillàt Estèr". Toward a Transcultural Concept of Religion in Katja Petrowskaja\u27s Novel Vielleicht Esther
This contribution analyzes Katja Petrowskaja’s novel Vielleicht Esther (2014) by proposing the Megillàt Estèr from the Hebrew Bible as a key interpretative lens. The aim is to demonstrate how, through this subtle yet deliberate intertextual reference, the author weaves into the novel a reflection on the notion of a transreligion, one that resonates with and articulates the complexities of our contemporary transcultural landscape
