GCLU: a multiuser dynamic web application for the management of university degrees
For many years, universities provide information about the degree programs through the Web. The solutions are many and each requires certain technologies as well as human resources management and organization of data to be published. Often, information on degree programs consist of static HTML pages, stored on web servers. Currently, for the achievements of websites, are widely used CMS (Content Management System) software tools that allow even inexperienced users to publish pages and content.
This abstract aims to present a multiuser web dynamic application, hereinafter indicated GCLU (Management Degree Courses University) that aims to enable teachers and administrative staff to publish easily accessing information on a university degree program in accordance with the current ministerial regulations.
For the realization of the software GCLU we have been used many current technologies. In particular, for the server-side application it has resorted to the Java language, for client-side HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript, MySQL 5.0.45 for the management of databases and Apache Tomcat 7.0 as a Web server. HTML5 and CSS 3 are the languages on the client side will be based on the Web in the coming years. They are compatible with many modern browsers and mobile devices. These technologies allow you to obtain a cleaner code, dynamic interfaces more functional and richer content.
The GCLU software, then, is designed and built to be compatible with popular browsers of the latest generation, such as Microsoft Explorer 10:11, 12 Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Safari.
GCLU software is used to manage Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree courses in Computer Science, of University of Rome "Tor Vergata". The website address is http://www.informatica.uniroma2.it
Caratheodory Solutions and their Associated Graphs in Opinion Dynamics with Topological Interactions∗
Models of social influence may present discontinuous dynamical rules, which are unavoidable with topological interactions, i.e. when the dynamics is the outcome of interactions with a limited number of nearest neighbors. Here, we show that classical solutions are not sufficient to describe the resulting dynamics. We first describe the time evolution of the interaction graph associated to Caratheodory solutions, whose properties depend on the dimension of the state space and on the number of considered neighbors. We then prove the existence of Caratheodory solutions for 2-nearest neighbors, via a constructive algorithm
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Technical Committee on Networks and Communication Systems [Technical Activities]
The IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS) Technical Committee on Networks and Communication Systems (TC-NCS) focuses on areas that involve the interplay among networks, communication, and systems control. The TC is organized into eight working groups, Control of Network Systems, Information Networks and Control, Networked Sensing and Sensor Networks, Optimization and Game Theoretic Methods in Networks, Cybersecurity and Privacy, Infrastructure Networks, Internet of Things, and the recently formed Learning, Dynamics, and Behaviors in Social Systems. This working group focuses on the analysis and design of networks of dynamical systems, taking a control systems perspective. The group activities encompass both theory and applications. Among applications, research on cooperative driving is gaining momentum
