Frank Ching is a renowned author of over a dozen books addressing architectural forms and their analysis through drawing.He is a widely recognized author of books addressing architectural and design graphicsHe has taught at several universities in the United States as well as in Japan and Hong Kong. He is currently holds the Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington.He has received awards from prestigious organizations such as the American Institute of Architects and the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Awards.More recently, in 2013, he received the gold medal of the UID, in Matera , where we had the pleasure of meeting Frank Ching in person and invited him to this interview, which has now been published.At Matera, surrounded by his students, the professor drew the Sassi, illustrating in front of our eyes, what he has been doing for decades: using Drawing as a cognitive and creative tool. His way to approach arquitectural drawing has been a benchmark for many generations of graphic arts teachers. Ching svolti nella città di Roma durante un corso di formazione.Alla proposta di scrivere un articolo per la nostra rivista, il professor Francis D.K. Ching ha risposto inviandoci soltanto alcuni disegni, elaborati alla fine dello scorso anno durante un suo viaggio a Roma, suggerendoci di redigere noi un testo. Questo contributo ha lo scopo sia di porre in risalto il suo contributo di docente alla disciplina del Disegno, sia di relazionare e far conoscere gli studi e le ricerche scientifiche che il professor Ching ha sviluppato nel corso di una lunga carriera accademica. In particolare riflettiamo sui disegni che ci ha inviato espressamente con l’intento di pubblicarli sulla nostra rivista, ben coscienti che ognuno di essi esprime in maniera più esaustiva di qualsiasi testo il suo contenuto.When we asked Professor Francis D.K. Ching to write an article for our magazine he replied by sending us several of the drawings he did during his trip to Rome at the end of last year and suggested we add the text. This article intends to focus on his input as a teacher of drawing as well as discuss and disseminate the scientific studies and research he has performed during his academic career. We will focus in particular on the drawings he wished us to publish in our magazine, well aware that each drawing conveys much more than our words about its contents
