Landscape paths in Lazio Region. The Velletri-Terracina railway, a regeneration project from the inland to the coastland.
The Rome-Velletri-Terracina line connected the lower Lazio coast to Rome, simplified and increased
commercial traffic and the movement of the inhabitants of the province to the capital, networking a series
of smaller towns that were first completely isolated. In 1958, the Velletri – Priverno section was officially
abolished and in 2012, the service to Terracina was interrupted due to a landslide along the line.
The experimentation for the reuse and revitalization of this railway is therefore aimed at the construction
of a historical-environmental itinerary, which, through the railway route, enhances the local naturalistic
and cultural heritage, integrating the resources and investments available to promote the fruition of the
territory beyond the summer season and beyond the bathing activity.
A territory whose landscapes, although heterogeneous in their natural and geographical characteristics,
are the expression and testimony of a common identity and historical-cultural heritage. The Castelli
Romani, the Agro Romano and Pontino, the internal areas as well as the coastal ones, were the scene
of profound transformations related to the reclamation works of the Agro Pontino. A territorial system
consisting of the sea, the coastal lakes, the Selva di Terracina, the many archaeological pre-existences
in which the historical and cultural matrix is characterized by being a land conquered by man, colonized
and planned to enhance its productive and agricultural vocation. A feature that has conditioned the
belonging and the link between the population and its context, which deserves to be told by following
the footprints that remain visible in the very conformation of the territory, in the design of the fields, of
the reclamation channels, in the urban morphology of the crossed historic centers

A Forgotten Bestselling Author: Laura Terracina in Early Modern Naples
This dissertation provides a critical assessment of Laura Terracina (1519-c.1577) and her works. It argues that she was a consummate product of her age, embodying the tensions which ruled the Italian peninsula. Terracina published eight books and left a ninth in manuscript at the time of her death, winning legions of admirers and making her sixteenth-century Italy’s most commercially successful female author. Yet in spite of her enormous popularity amongst her contemporaries, scholarship has largely neglected Terracina. This dissertation will open up an overdue field of enquiry into her life and works, exploring the significance of her role as a sixteenth-century female poet through the lenses of gender and class. By mapping her place in the literary landscape, it is hoped that this thesis will encourage scholars to afford Terracina the attention she so richly deserves.
The first chapter of the dissertation situates Terracina as a poet of Naples, seeing her as a product of her family’s political standing within the city, her academician status, and her own construction of an urban coterie of supporters. The second chapter considers the mechanics of the journey into print, assessing Terracina’s own input and her close collaboration with male editors and publishers. It proposes a greater attribution of agency to Terracina than has thus far been made, arguing that she is, in fact, an important figure in the process of her texts reaching the hands of readers. The third chapter considers how the poet used her printed books as social tools, employing them to gain social and literary capital.
The second section of the dissertation looks at two thematic strands within Terracina’s poetry. Chapter four considers her political poetry, including her attitude towards the harm done to civilian populations across Europe. Chapter five looks at the religious dimension to Terracina’s work, the spiritual poetry written in her later years, and the relationship this bears to her secular lyric. Finally, the dissertation concludes with a chapter on the contemporary reception of Terracina’s texts, providing preliminary thoughts on how she was read, before closing with a consideration of her literary afterlife in the centuries that followed
Investigating Reddit to detect subreddit and author stereotypes and to evaluate author assortativity
In recent years, Reddit has attracted the interest of many researchers due to its popularity all over the world. In this article, we aim at providing a contribution to the knowledge of this social network by investigating three of its aspects, interesting from the scientific viewpoint, and, at the same time, by analysing a large number of applications. In particular, we first propose a definition and an analysis of several stereotypes of both subreddits and authors. This analysis is coupled with the definition of three possible orthogonal taxonomies that help us to classify stereotypes in an appropriate way. Then, we investigate the possible existence of author assortativity in this social medium; specifically, we focus on co-posters, that is, authors who submitted posts on the same subreddit
Game@school.
Pressure to Publish: Laura Terracina and her Editors
Laura Terracina (1519–c.1577) was the bestselling female author of sixteenth-century Italy, publishing eight poetry collections, several of which went through numerous reprints. While other female poets attained greater cultural prestige, none was as widely published, nor reflected so well the developing worlds of print, publication, and authorship from mid- to late Cinquecento. Her publication history problematizes the accepted narrative of how women came to print and of their relationship with their editors and publishers. From the time she first appeared in print in 1546 to the writing of her final manuscript in 1577, Terracina proved to be an engaged and headstrong author with a strong sense of ownership of her works. This article will explore Terracina’s relationships with her editors and publishers, analyzing her role in the publication process to argue that she took a much more active part in their production than has previously been appreciated
Il Piccolo Tempio di Monte Sant’Angelo a Terracina: nuove ricerche
The excavations at the so-called Piccolo Tempio at Monte Sant’Angelo in Terracina were conducted by Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich in the years 2019–2021. The activities focused on the temple building and its terrace in the western slope of the mountain. The aim of the project is to determine the construction date and to reconstruct the Hellenistic sanctuary for the first time in research history. Thanks to the findings in the construction layers related to the erection of the substructure of the temple platform, the decorations and building technique can be dated to the first two decades 2nd century B.C.E. The complex included a U-shaped cryptoporticus, rich decorated pavements and wall decorations in the First Pompeian Style. During the 2020 excavations the foundation walls of a rectangular temple building were found on the upper part of the platform. It can be reconstructed as a temple building with a cella and two lateral alae. Contrary to the traditional interpretation of the building, both the terrace and the temple face the ancient city of Terracina and the via Appia, and not the sea.L’Università Ludwig Maximilian di Monaco di Baviera ha condotto dal 2019 al 2021 scavi dell’area del cosiddetto Piccolo Tempio, sul pendio occidentale del monte.
Gastro-Resistant Microparticles Produced by Spray-Drying as Controlled Release Systems for Liposoluble Vitamins
In the present study, gastro-resistant microparticles (MPs) were produced using the spray-drying technique as controlled-release systems for some model liposoluble vitamins, including retinyl-palmitate, retinyl-acetate, β-carotene, cholecalciferol and α-tocopherol. The gastroprotective action of three different gastro-resistant excipients, the anionic methacrylic copolymer (Eudraguard(®®) Biotic, E1207), the cellulose acetate phthalate (CAP) and whey proteins (WPs), was compared. The latter was used to produce a novel delivery system manufactured with only food-derived components, such as milk, and showed several improvements over the two synthetic gastro-resistant agents. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images showed a quite homogeneous spherical shape of all microparticle batches, with an average diameter between 7 and 15 μm. FTIR analysis was used to evaluate the effective incorporation of vitamins within the microparticles and the absence of any degradation to the components of the formulation. The comparison graphs of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) confirmed that the spray drying technique generates a solid in which the physical interactions between the excipients and the vitamins are very strong. Release studies showed a prominent pH-controlled release and partially a delayed-release profile. Ex vivo permeation studies of retinyl palmitate, retinyl acetate and α-tocopherol revealed greater transmucosal permeation capacity for microparticles produced with the WPs and milk
