Glavna tema ovog rada je talijanska spisateljica i novinarka Vittoria Aganoor Pompilj, njen život, stil pisanja i poetika, analiza i prijevod njezinih pjesama i angažman u književnim talijanskim časopisima. In this paper, we researched the writer and journalist 19th century Vittoria Aganoor Pompilj and other female authors who wrote during the period of romanticism and realism. The introductory part contains the historical and literary context and a short introduction to the importance of literary and women's magazines at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. By analyzing other female authors, contemporary with the writer Aganoor, we learn more about their importance and contribution to Italian literature and about the historical milestones and women who achieved them. The main topic of this work is the Italian writer and journalist Vittoria Aganoor Pompilj, her life, style of writing and poetics, analysis and translation of her poems, and her engagement in Italian literary magazines. Through the analysis of the family, life, and people in the life of the author Aganoor, we learn the sources of her inspiration, her goal in life, and what influenced her literary creation. By translating and analyzing her poems in detail, we explored the poetics and style that the writer aspired to and introduced research on her engagement in literary magazines. We analyzed her activity in the magazines of the Italian literary circle and saw the importance of her works. Although the writer aspired to family life, she contributed greatly to Italian literature. She published her first poems in the second half of her life and was an inspiration to young Armenian and women writers. Her poems published in magazines talked about love, feelings, landscapes, and politics. She was one of the first women not to use a pseudonym and each of her publications was praised by literary critics. We compared the writer's activity to important events in her life and her activity throughout the years. After her death, many obituaries were published in famous women's and literary magazines with which Vittoria Aganoor Pompilj collaborated and where her importance and contribution to literature were described

Laboratory simulation of recent NAPL spills to investigate radon partition among NAPL vapours and soil air

    No full text
Soil radon is employed to trace residual NAPL (Non-Aqueous Phase Liquid) contamination because it is very soluble in these substances and is strongly depleted over polluted volumes of the subsoil. The solubility of radon into NAPL vapors, generally poorly considered, is investigated here, either as growth of radon exhalation from a material contaminated with increasing volumes of kerosene, or as radon partition between liquid kerosene, water and total air, considered ad the sum of kerosene vapors plus air

Soil radon survey to assess NAPL contamination from an ancient spill. Do kerosene vapors affect radon partition ?

A soil radon-deficit survey was carried out in a site polluted with kerosene (Rome, Italy) in winter 2016 to assess the contamination due to the NAPL residual component in the vadose zone and to investigate the role of the vapor plume. Radon is indeed more soluble in the residual NAPL than in air or water, but laboratory experiments demonstrated that it is also preferentially partitioned in the NAPL vapors that transport it and may influence soil radon distribution patterns. Specific experimental configurations were designed and applied to a 31-station grid to test this hypothesis; two RAD7 radon monitors were placed in-series and connected to the top of a hollow probe driven up to 80-cm depth; the first instrument was directly attached to the probe and received humid soil gas, which was counted and then conveyed to the second monitor through a desiccant (drierite) cylinder capturing moisture and eventually the NAPL volatile component plus the radon dissolved in vapors. The values from the two instruments were cross-calibrated through specifically designed laboratory experiments and compared. The results are in agreement within the error range, so the presence of significant NAPL vapors, eventually absorbed by drierite, was ruled out. This is in agreement with low concentrations of soil VOCs. Accordingly, the radon-deficit is ascribed to the residual NAPL in the soil pores, as shown very well also by the obtained maps. Preferential areas of radon-deficit were recognised, as in previous surveys. An average estimate of 21 L (17 Kg) of residual NAPL per cubic meter of terrain is provided on the basis of original calculations, developed from published equations. A comparison with direct determination of total hydrocarbon concentration (23 kg per cubic meter of terrain) is provided

Using a multi-method approach based on soil radon deficit, resistivity, and induced polarization measurements to monitor non-aqueous phase liquid contamination in two study areas in Italy and India

Geochemical and geophysical surveys employing radon deficit, resistivity, and induced polarization (IP) measurements were undertaken on soil contaminated with non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) in two different sites in India and in Italy. Radon deficit, validated through the comparison with average soil radon in reference unpolluted areas, shows the extension of contamination in the upper part of the unsaturated aquifers. In site 1 (Italy), the spill is not recent. A residual film of kerosene covers soil grains, inhibiting their chargeability and reducing electrical resistivity difference with background unpolluted areas. No correlation between the two parameters is observed. Soil volatile organic compounds (VOCs) concentration is not linked with radon deficit, supporting the old age of the spillage. NAPL pollution in sites 2a and 2b (India) is more recent and probably still active, as demonstrated by higher values of electrical resistivity. A good correlation with IP values suggests that NAPL is still distributed as droplets or as a continuous phase in the pores, strengthening the scenario of a fresh spill or leakage. Residual fraction of gasoline in the pore space of sites 2a and 2b is respectively 1.5 and 11.8 kg per cubic meter of terrain. This estimation is referred to the shallower portion of the unsaturated aquifer. Electrical resistivity is still very high indicating that the gasoline has not been strongly degraded yet. Temperature and soil water content influence differently radon deficit in the three areas, reducing soil radon concentration and partly masking the deficit in sites 2a and 2b

The Conclave of Benedict XV (1914)

In this essay, the author analyses the conclave of 1914, which saw Giacomo Della Chiesa ascend to the papal throne, and compares it to the conclave of August 1903, in which Pius X was elected. On the death of Pope Pius X on 20 August 1914, a ‘battle climate’ was initiated that was clearly perceived by journalists and Vatican diplomats and which characterized the period between the one pontiff’s death and the next pontiff’s election. Melloni then analyses the initial predictions and names of the papabili: which, as of 24 August 1914, were Francica-Nava, Ferrata, Ferrari, Richelmy, Serafini, Gasparri, De Lai, Della Chiesa, Pompilj and Maffi. Voting began on 31 August 1914 and, with the tenth ballot on the morning of 3 September 1914, it was the Cardinal of Bologna who reached a quorum of 38 votes. The essay concludes with the author’s review of the conclave and reports the decision to change the Secretary of State at the end of the conclave: Benedict XV was the last pontiff to do so. ‘Thus, a papacy of a political and religious timbre emerged from the conclave of 1914 that few would have been able to predict, but which, in its course, already showed the weight of a war setting that was not temporary, as many believed in those weeks’

Abstract : This thesis, linked to the research field "Theory, criticism and history of translation" attempts to do a commented retranslation of Mme de Staël's Corinne ou l'Italie (1807). The first chapter describes the life and the works of the author, with emphasis on Corinne ou l'Italie, which was translated and retranslated into other languages, mainly English, Italian and German. In Chapter 2, the first translation of Corinne ou l'Italie into Brazilina Portuguese (1945, Cultura Printings) is presented. In chapter 3 the retranslation is analyzed through comments based on theoretical reflections of Berman, Pym, Venuti and Gambier. Examples of semantic, cultural and stylistics aspects of the XX books (original and retranslated version) are presented. The comments of the translation process allow a rich literary and cultural exchange. As well as a deeper investigation about Madame de Staël's work enriches the standard of French literature in Brazil
