    No full text
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of intravaginal electrical stimulation (IVES) therapies with different treatment frequencies (two or five days in a week) added to bladder training (BT) on incontinence-related quality of life (QoL) and clinical parameters in women with refractory idiopathic overactive bladder (OAB). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Fifty-two women with refractory idiopathic OAB were randomized into two groups as follows: Group 1 (n:26) received BT and IVES, two times in a week, for 10 weeks and Group 2 (n:26) received BT and IVES five times in a week, for 4 weeks. IVES was performed 20 minutes in a day, a total of 20 sessions for both groups. Women were evaluated for incontinence severity (24h pad test), pelvic floor muscles strength (perineometer), 3-day voiding diary (frequency of voiding, nocturia, incontinence episodes, and the number of pads), symptom severity (OAB-V8), quality of life (IIQ-7), treatment success (positive response rate), cure/improvement rate and treatment satisfaction (Likert scale). RESULTS: There was no statistically significant differences in all parameters between the two groups at the end of the treatment. It was found that the treatment satisfaction scores, cure/improvement and positive response rates were not significantly different between two groups (p>0.05). CONCLUSION: We concluded that the application of IVES twice a week or 5 times a week added to BT were both effective on incontinence-related QoL and clinical parameters in women with refractory idiopathic OAB. These two IVES frequencies had similar clinical efficacy and patient satisfaction with a slight difference between them; 5 times per week IVES has a shorter treatment duration

Article; Early AccessObjectives: This study aims to compare the efficacy of three different exercise types on pain, health-related quality of life (HRQoL), depression, and body composition in women with fibromyalgia (FM). Patients and methods: Between June 2019 and December 2019, a total of 41 women with FM (mean age: 46.7+9.4 years; range, 24 to 62 years) were randomly allocated into Group 1 (n=13, supervised aerobic plus stretching), Group 2 (n=13, supervised resistance plus stretching), and Group 3 (n=15, home-based stretching). All exercises were performed three times per week for 12 weeks and were individualized by measuring the maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) for aerobic exercise and one-repetition maximum (1-RM) test for resistance exercise. The main measures were pain intensity assessed by the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), severity by the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ), symptoms of depression by the Beck Depression Inventory, HRQoL by the Short-Form Health Questionnaire (SF-36), and body composition by bioelectrical impedance analysis. Results: The mean VAS difference (95% confidence interval [CI]): -2.61 (-1.94, -3.29); -2.61 (-1.82, -3.42); -1.07 (-0.49, -1.64) for Group 1, Group 2, and Group 3, respectively (p0.05). The combined exercise groups showed a more significant reduction in pain compared to the only stretching group (p0.001); however, there was no significant difference between the combined exercise groups. The FIQ scores decreased significantly in all exercise groups after training (p0.05). At 12 weeks, 21 (80.8%) patients from combined groups and six (40%) patients from the stretching alone group achieved a minimal clinically significant difference defined as a 14% change in baseline FIQ scores (p=0.008). Other outcome parameters did not differ significantly among the groups. Conclusion: Supervised aerobics/muscle strengthening combined with stretching exercises reduced pain, and FM severity more than a home stretching exercise alone.Pamukkale University Scientific Research Fund [2018TIPF044]This study was funded by Pamukkale University Scientific Research Fund with Project Number: 2018TIPF044

© 2017 Author(s).In this study, two different commercial dish/stirling systems, SES (Stirling Energy Systems) and WGA-ADDS (WGAssociates - Advanced Dish Development System), are modeled using the "System Advisor Model" (SAM) modeling software in designated settlement areas. Both systems are modeled for the US state of Albuquerque, where they were designed, and Turkish provinces of Ankara, Van, Muǧla, Mersin, Urfa and Konya. At first, the dish/stirling system is optimized according to the power output values and the system loss parameters. Then, the layout of the solar field is designed with an installed capacity of 600kW both of SES and WGA-ADDS systems, Upon securing the most suitable layout, the system is modeled for the aforementioned settlements using the optimum output values gathered from the parametric analysis. As a result of the simulation studies, the applicability of this model is discussed according to the power output and the efficiency. Although Turkey is located in an area called "the sun belt" where solar energy technologies can be used, there is no advanced application of these systems. This study aims to discuss the application of these systems in detail and to pave the way for future studies in this field

Empathy treated as a process stays special topic of several psychological analysis. But, it was previously an object of philosophical research. Actually, some aspects of philosophical conceptualizations of empathy have also become leading in psychological studies. In the article the author describes chosen and past views of philosophers on empathy. It is a trial of getting through to philosophical sources of interpretation of empathy. In this way the continuity of philosophical and psychological studies would be kept and present psychological studies on empathy stay more understandable.Empathy treated as a process stays special topic of several psychological analysis. Oppinnäytetyöni toimeksiantaja on Innojok Oy. Innojok on valaisin maahantuoja sekä yrityksellä on oma valaisinmallisto ,josta löytyy Suomalaisia design klassikoita. Työni aihe on tutkia miten Innojok pystyy parantamaan näkymistään myymäläympäristössä visuaalisin keinoin. The Thesis project was sponsored by Innojok. Innojok is an importer of lamps and lighting company who have their own collection, which can be found in the Finnish design classics. The topic was to study how to improve the prospects Innojok in the retail environment by using visual means. This kind of study was the first of its kind. The goal was to provide useful information about the company and to create a concept plan identifying how their visibility could be improved. The Author's internship experience at Innojok provided the topic for the Thesis. The topics were studied by observing the retail chain store environment in various lighting departments. Also refine-ments observation interviews were made with the store staff and the company's managing director and marketing manager. The design concept design methods were used. Planning began on the orders of the brief itself, because the company did not want to limit the issue closely. The Terms of Reference was taken into account following the company's wishes, the plan should be reflected in the company's logo color (purple), slogan, and the manner in which the company is attempting to look in the retail shop. A visual image was sketched through the target group value of the world they are living in and what the Author thought Innojok should look like in the visual world. The results revealed the things by which means the company's visibility could be improved by visual means. The Author then focused on the design of the main points. The end result was a new concept for the brochure, which would replace the currently used in the product card. The prospectus should be pre-attached to the lamp. It is de-signed to provide easy distribution for channel promotions. During the process, the company gained valuable informationabout the things to which they should pay attention in order to make their store appearance improve. The development of the concept for the company will continue in collaboration with the Author

DOMAĆE, VLASTITO I OSOBNO: AUTOKULTURNA DEFAMILIJARIZACIJA

    No full text
In this reflexive methodological and epistemological review, the author discusses the research in which the researcher almost entirely practically, contextually and cognitively participates in the field. It is a situation that mobilises the circumstances of the researcher's life into a scholarly-research enquiry. The author's field experience in studying an urban community is reconsidered within the concept of auto-anthropology. The concept is expounded through three key research auto-references: in relation to the discipline (the subject of research and the methodology); in relation to one's own (culture and society); and, in relation to the personal (autobiographical).U ovome refleksivnom metodološko-epistemološkom tekstu autorica raspravlja o istraživanju u kojemu je istraživač gotovo potpuni sudionik terena, praktično, kontekstualno i kognitivno, odnosno, o situaciji kada se okolnosti istraživačeva života mobiliziraju u znanstvenoistraživački pothvat. Vlastito terensko iskustvo u istraživanju suvremene urbane zajednice autorica promišlja unutar postmodernog koncepta autoantropologije. No upravo nas ova istraživačka situacija kulturne bliskosti čini i kazivačima. Tradicionalni kanon antropologije – drugi - drugdje - drukčiji – u autoantropologiji zamjenjuje sva tri elementa, predmetni, prostorni i karakterni. Uz specifičan antropološki metodološki i konceptualni temelj autoantropologija stvara znanje u novoj trodimenzionalnosti mi - ovdje - slični

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the effect of 8-week whole-body vibration (WBV) added to conventional training on muscular architecture, dynamic muscle strength and physical performance compared to controls in young basketball players. METHODS: Sixteen young basketball players between the ages of 14-16 years were randomly assigned to whole body vibration group (VG) or control group (CG). Both groups were trained with a conventional program. Pennation angle (PeA), fascicle length and muscle thickness of Rectus Femoris (RF) and Vastus lateralis were measured by ultrasonography. Isokinetic dynamic muscle testing at 180 °/s and 60°/s, squat jump (SJ) and flexibility were evaluated before and after 8 weeks of training programs. Primary outcome measure was the fascicle length. RESULTS: Fascicle length of RF, SJ height and flexibility increased significantly within VG compared to pretraining (p<0.05). SJ height increased in VG compared to CG significantly following training (p<0.05). PeA, fascicle length, muscle thicknesses, strength and flexibility did not differ between groups. CONCLUSION: Eight weeks of WBV training improved fascicle length of RF, SJ height, and flexibility compared to pre-training. Addition of WBV to conventional training did not cause improvement in muscle architecture, strength and flexibility compared to conventional training alone

Is isoenergetic high-intensity interval exercise superior to moderate-intensity continuous exercise for cardiometabolic risk factors in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus? A single-blinded randomized controlled study

    No full text
The aim of this study was to compare the effect of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) with equal energy expenditure on glycaemic and cardiometabolic risk factors in people with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) when compared to the control. Sixty-three people with T2DM were randomly assigned to HIIT, MICT, or non-exercising controls. Individuals were trained with HIIT at 90 and 30% of their VO(2)peak (1:2 min ratio) starting from 8 up to 16 intervals and MICT at 50% of VO(2)peak, on a cycle ergometer, 3 times/week for 12 weeks under supervision. The primary outcome measure was the change in HbA1c. Aerobic capacity, cardiovascular responses, anthropometric measures, body composition, glycaemic, and cardiometabolic risk factors were measured at the beginning and the end of the 12-week training period. There was no significant difference between HIIT and MICT or when compared to the control for HbA1c, glucose, insulin resistance, blood lipids, cardiovascular responses, anthropometric measures, body composition, and abdominal and visceral fat (p(adj )> 0.05). HIIT and MICT increased VO(2)peak significantly compared to controls (p 0.05) but not to each other (p > 0.05). Both HIIT and MICT improved VO(2)peak and HbA1c after 12 weeks of training compared to their baseline, furthermore, only MICT caused additional improvements in cardiovascular responses, anthropometric measures, and abdominal fat compared to baseline (p 0.05). As a conclusion, isoenergetic HIIT or MICT did not improve HbA1c. The two protocols were equally efficient for improvement in aerobic capacity but had little effect on other cardiometabolic factors
