Perception and evaluation of the quality of life in Florence, Italy

    No full text
Series: Best Cases II, Social Indicators Research Series, vol. 28 Abstract. In 2003, the City of Florence (Italy) in conjunction with the Department of Statistics of the University of Florence conducted a research project regarding the citizens’ perception and evaluation of the quality of life (QOL) in the city of Florence. The focus of the study was to identify residents’ needs and develop programs and policies to enhance their QOL. The study also attempted to develop specific and innovative indicators of QOL aimed at measuring and assessing the levels of suitability of the living conditions that the city of Florence offers to its inhabitants. The author shows mainly the methodological procedure aimed at developing these innovative indicators

Tra autobiografismo e confessio: verso un osservatorio sull’autobiografia latina tardoantica

This paper introduces the Proceedings of the International Workshop entitled "In aula ingenti memoriae meae". Forme di autobiografia nella letteratura tardolatina, which was held in Siena on 13 and 24 June 2024 and represented the first step towards the construction of an international network, with a dedicated website, on the general trends of Latin autobiography between the IV and the VI sec. d.C. The thirteen contributions collected in this volume and written by some of the major specialists of Late antiquity analyze as many case studies related to that complex historical and cultural period

MeSH term explosion and author rank improve expert recommendations

Information overload is an often-cited phenomenon that reduces the productivity, efficiency and efficacy of scientists. One challenge for scientists is to find appropriate collaborators in their research. The literature describes various solutions to the problem of expertise location, but most current approaches do not appear to be very suitable for expert recommendations in biomedical research. In this study, we present the development and initial evaluation of a vector space model-based algorithm to calculate researcher similarity using four inputs: 1) MeSH terms of publications; 2) MeSH terms and author rank; 3) exploded MeSH terms; and 4) exploded MeSH terms and author rank. We developed and evaluated the algorithm using a data set of 17,525 authors and their 22,542 papers. On average, our algorithms correctly predicted 2.5 of the top 5/10 coauthors of individual scientists. Exploded MeSH and author rank outperformed all other algorithms in accuracy, followed closely by MeSH and author rank. Our results show that the accuracy of MeSH term-based matching can be enhanced with other metadata such as author rank

Symmetry of positive solutions of an almost critical problem in an annulus

    Abstract. We consider the subcritical problem (I) ??? ?? ??u = N(N ? 2)up?? in A u > 0 in A u = 0 on ?A where A is an annulus in RN, N ? 3, p + 1 = 2N N?2 is the critical Sobolev exponent and ? > 0 is a small parameter.We prove that solutions of (I) which concentrate at one or two points are axially symmetric

Reply to the discussion on ‘Coastal and inland karst morphologies driven by sea level stands: a GIS based method for their evaluation’ by Filomena Canora, Dolores Fidelibus and Giuseppe Spilotro (2012)

The authors welcome the discussion concerning their paper ‘Coastal and inland karst morphologies driven by sea level stands: a GIS based method for their evaluation’ by F. Canora, D. Fidelibus, G. Spilotro, made by J. De Waele and M. Parise. It provides an opportunity to open a debate about the significance of geomorphological studies at different scales, both generally, and for the specific area of study (Murgia, Southern Italy)
